Cooling System [3.0L]: Removal & Installation Mazda Tribute II

Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See «LIFTING»(ref-348626-S31954056142009112700000) .
  2. Drain the engine cooling system. See «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING - 3.0L»(ref-348665-S32749980752009112700000) .
  3. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe. See «AIR CLEANER OUTLET PIPE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L»(ref-348656-S32039076842009112700000) .
  4. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
  5. Remove the water pump belt. See «WATER PUMP BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L»(ref-348663-S13572376232009112700000) .
  6. Remove the 3 bolts and the coolant pump. Remove and discard the gasket.

Installation

  1. Using a new gasket, install the coolant pump and the 3 bolts. Tighten to 15 N.m {1.5 kgf.m, 133 in.lbf}.
  2. Install the water pump belt. See «WATER PUMP BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L»(ref-348663-S13572376232009112700000) .
  3. Connect the lower radiator hose to the thermostat housing.
  4. Install the ACL outlet pipe. See «AIR CLEANER OUTLET PIPE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L»(ref-348656-S32039076842009112700000) .
  5. Fill and bleed the engine cooling system. See «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING - 3.0L»(ref-348665-S32749980752009112700000) .

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See «LIFTING»(ref-348626-S31954056142009112700000) .
  2. Drain the cooling system. See «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING - 3.0L»(ref-348665-S32749980752009112700000) .
  3. Remove the front bumper cover. See «FRONT BUMPER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-348676-S20817421802009112700000) .
  4. Remove the 2 front impact severity sensor. See «FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-348640-S42590226102009112700000) .
  5. Remove the 2 pin-type retainers.
  6. Remove the 4 bolts and the 2 radiator brackets. To install, tighten to 10 N.m {1.0 kgf.m, 89 in.lbf}.
  7. Loosen the nut, remove the 2 bolts and position the hood latch aside. To install, tighten to 9 N.m {0.9 kgf.m, 80 in.lbf}. NOTE: Mark the hood latch position prior to removing of the bolts.
  8. Remove the 2 wiring harness retainers from the front bumper bracket.
  9. Remove the center support bolt. To install, tighten to 10 N.m {1.0 kgf.m, 89 in.lbf}.
  10. Disconnect the 2 cooling fan electrical connectors and the wire harness retainers.
  11. Remove the 2 cooling fan bolts and the cooling fan motor and shroud. To install, tighten to 8 N.m {0.80 kgf.m, 71 in.lbf}.
  12. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

CYLINDER BLOCK - CORE PLUG REPLACEMENT, 3.0L

CAUTIONIt is necessary to use Loctite® Retaining Compound 620 High Temperature sealant on all 3 valve modular engine cylinder head cup plugs. If not used, the cylinder head cup plugs could leak or seep, causing serious engine damage.
