VEHICLE HEIGHT SENSOR
Measure length of height sensor rod. (Scheme 5) On 2WD, rod length should be 2.34-2.38" (59.5-60.5 mm). On 4WD, rod length should be 3.92-3.96" (99.5-100.5 mm). If rod length is not as specified, loosen height sensor rod lock nuts. (Scheme 5) Turn rod center nut to adjust length. Lengthen rod to increase vehicle height or shorten rod to decrease vehicle height. Tighten height sensor rod lock nuts to 69-95 INCH lbs. (7.8-11 N.m).

With Engine Running, Vehicle Higher Than Designated Height
Check for the following
- Height sensor malfunction.
- Improperly adjusted height sensor rod.
- Exhaust valve stuck or damaged/disconnected wiring.
- Exhaust valve passage clogged or damaged/disconnected harness.
- Control unit malfunction.
- Air pipe clogged.
- Height sensor electrical circuit damaged or disconnected.
With Engine Running, Vehicle Lower Than Designated Height
Check for the following
- Height sensor malfunction.
- Improperly adjusted height sensor rod.
- Poor contact of compressor relay or damaged/disconnected wiring.
- Insufficient compressor output pressure.
- Compressor motor malfunction.
- Control unit malfunction.
- Air pipe clogged or leaking.
- Air leak from shock absorber.
- Damaged shock absorber rolling diaphragm.
- Height sensor electrical circuit damaged or disconnected.
With Engine Running, Vehicle Occasionally Moves Up Or Down
Check for the following
- Improperly adjusted height sensor rod.
- Control unit malfunction.
With Engine & Ignition Off, Vehicle Higher Than Designated Height
Check for the following
- Exhaust valve passage clogged or damaged/disconnected harness.
- Air pipe clogged.
- Height sensor malfunction.
- Improperly adjusted height sensor rod.
With Engine & Ignition Off, Vehicle Lower Than Designated Height
Check for the following
- Damaged exhaust valve.
- Air leakage at air pipes or shock absorber connection.
With Engine Running, ALL Indicator (LEVELER) Remains On
Check for the following
- Height sensor malfunction or damaged/disconnected wiring.
- Improperly adjusted height sensor rod.
- Alternator harness damaged or disconnected.
- Alternator malfunction.
- Exhaust valve stuck or damaged/disconnected wiring.
- Exhaust valve leakage.
- Insufficient compressor output pressure or compressor motor malfunction.
- Control unit malfunction.
- Air leakage at air pipes or shock absorber connection.
- Damaged shock absorber rolling diaphragm.
With Engine Running, ALL Indicator (LEVELER) Will Not Stop Flashing
Check for the following
- Exhaust valve leakage.
- Insufficient compressor output pressure.
- Control unit malfunction.
- Air pipe clogged or air leakage from valve or shock absorber.
- Damaged shock absorber rolling diaphragm.
With Engine Running, Compressor Operates Too Often
Check for the following
- Exhaust valve stuck or harness short circuit.
- Exhaust valve air leakage.
- Air leakage at air pipes or shock absorber connection.
- Damaged shock absorber rolling diaphragm.
- Control unit malfunction.
- Door switch malfunction.
- Vehicle speed sensor malfunction.
With Engine Running, Compressor Will Not Stop
Check for the following
- Exhaust valve stuck or harness short circuit.
- Compressor relay malfunction.
- Control unit malfunction.
- Air leakage at air pipes or shock absorber connection.
- Damaged shock absorber rolling diaphragm.
With Engine Running, Compressor Will Not Start
Check for the following
- Alternator malfunction.
- Compressor malfunction.
- Compressor motor internal wiring damaged or disconnected.
- Control unit malfunction.
- Compressor relay malfunction.
- Door switch malfunction.
With Engine Running, Compressor Speed Too Slow
Check for the following
- Compressor relay malfunction.
- Compressor motor malfunction.
2 Flashes, Air-Intake System Malfunction
A check is made to determine if vehicle height increases abnormally within 150 seconds. Check for the following
- Improper contact of compressor relay contacts or damaged/disconnected wiring.
- Insufficient compressor output pressure.
- Compressor motor malfunction.
- Air pipe clogged or air leakage from each joint.
- Damaged shock absorber rolling diaphragm.
- Height sensor malfunction.
- Improperly adjusted height sensor rod.
- Control unit malfunction.
3 Flashes, Exhaust System Malfunction
A check is made to determine if vehicle height decreases from abnormal height within 110 seconds. Check for the following
- Exhaust valve passage clogged or damaged/disconnected harness.
- Air pipe clogged.
- Height sensor malfunction.
- Improperly adjusted height sensor rod.
- Control unit malfunction.
4 Flashes, Vehicle Height Sensor Malfunction
A check is made to determine if output is other than that specified from start of check to finish of check. Check for the following
- Height sensor internal circuitry malfunction or damaged/ disconnected harness.
- Improperly adjusted height sensor rod.

Checking For Airflow
Disconnect both ends of air pipe sections to be checked. Blow air through pipe and ensure air flows out opposite end of pipe. Replace air pipe as necessary.
Checking For Leakage
Apply a soap and water solution to all air pipe connections. Connect jumper wire between positive battery post and terminal "A" (White wire) of compressor motor connector. Connect a second jumper wire between negative battery post and terminal "D" (Black wire) of compressor motor connector. Check for bubbles in soap and water solution applied at air pipe connections. Repair or replace air pipe as necessary.
CONTROL UNIT CHECK
Remove first rear seat and rear side trim panel. Using voltmeter, backprobe control unit connector terminals. Check voltage at each connector terminal. (Scheme 7)

Checking Rolling Diaphragm
Visually check or feel for a folded rolling diaphragm. If rolling diaphragm is folded, ground Gray wire terminal of check connector located in left rear corner of engine compartment. (Scheme 6) Turn ignition on, leaving engine off. Diaphragm will fully stretch and return to normal position. Replace shock absorber if diaphragm is damaged.
Checking For Air Leakage
Remove shock absorber. Inspect rolling diaphragm for damage. Install pressure gauge to shock absorber and air pipe. Apply approximately 71 psi (5 kg/cm 2 ) air pressure. Place shock absorber in a container of water and check for air leaks. Replace shock absorber as necessary.
