Suspension - Automatic Level Control: Diagnosis Mazda MPV I

DIAGNOSIS

Note. If rear of vehicle has been raised, check if rear shock absorber air cylinder pressure is abnormally low. Disconnect rear air pipe joint before lowering jack. Ensure ALL indicator (LEVELER) light is not flashing before lowering vehicle.

SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM

Note. Perform a thorough visual inspection of all components before entering self-diagnostics.

Turn ignition off. Check and adjust tire pressure as necessary. Ensure vehicle is on a flat, smooth surface. Remove any cargo, luggage or other load in vehicle. Ground Gray wire terminal of check connector located in left rear corner of engine compartment. see scheme 2 Turn ignition on, leaving engine off. Ensure vehicle has returned to normal riding height. Monitor ALL indicator (LEVELER) light flashes. See INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHING PATTERNS table. Each flash pattern is separated by a 2-second pause. Note indicator light flash patterns and check appropriate system and/or sensor malfunction.

INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHING PATTERNS

SYSTEM TEST

  1. Check Automatic Load Leveling (ALL) system. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check vehicle speed sensor. Drive vehicle faster than 2 MPH. Stop and remain in vehicle. DO NOT open any doors. Have an assistant place jack under rear door panel in front of rear wheel. Jack up rear of vehicle 17.7" (450 mm). (Scheme 1) Wait 10 seconds and ensure ALL indicator (LEVELER) light does not flash.
  2. If indicator light flashes, check vehicle speed sensor. If indicator light does not flash, check door switches. Open driver's side door. Ensure ALL indicator (LEVELER) light begins flashing within 10 seconds.
  3. If indicator light does not flash, check driver's side door switch. Check all other door switches using the same test procedure. If indicator light flashes, system is functioning properly.

VEHICLE HEIGHT SENSOR TEST

Remove cover from vehicle height sensor connector located near rear differential. Using voltmeter, ensure 5 volts is present at height sensor connector terminal "A" (White/Red wire). see scheme 7 Disconnect height sensor rod from differential housing. Check voltage at height sensor connector terminals "B" (Brown wire), "C" (Brown/White wire) and "D" (Green/Black wire) while moving height sensor rod through position levels. (Scheme 2)and (Scheme 3).

COMPRESSOR & EXHAUST VALVE TEST

Note. Compressor contains an internal circuit breaker. Compressor motor will not operate if temperature exceeds 302°F (150°C). Circuit breaker will reset and motor will operate when temperature decreases to less than 212°F (100°C).

  1. Raise and support rear of vehicle. Disconnect air pipe from left rear shock absorber. Connect pressure gauge to air pipe. Connect jumper wire between positive battery post and terminal "A" (White wire) of compressor motor connector. see scheme 7 Connect a second jumper wire between negative battery post and terminal "D" (Black wire) of compressor motor connector. Close valve on pressure gauge and ensure 142-185 psi (10-13 kg/cm 2 ) pressure is present.
  2. Stop compressor. Maintain compressor pressure. Connect jumper wire between battery positive post and terminal "C" (Black/Yellow wire) of compressor motor connector. Connect a second jumper wire between negative battery post and terminal "B" (Red wire) of compressor motor connector. Ensure exhaust valve operation is heard and pressure slowly decreases. Ensure 3-11 psi (.2-.8 kg/cm 2 ) pressure is present and retained.

COMPRESSOR RELAY TEST

Remove compressor relay located in left rear corner of engine compartment. Connect jumper wire between positive battery post and terminal "B" (Green/White wire) of compressor relay connector. see scheme 7 Connect a second jumper wire between negative battery post and terminal "A" (Blue wire) of compressor relay connector. Ensure continuity is present between terminals "C" (Black/Yellow wire) and "D" (White wire). Replace compressor relay as necessary.
