Continuity Check
- Disconnect connectors between tilt motor and tilt relay.
- Inspect for continuity between terminal "A" and terminal "C" of motor side connector. (Scheme 13) If there is no continuity, replace steering shaft component.
Scheme 13
- Turn on auto switch. Disconnect connectors between tilt switch and CPU.
- Inspect continuity between terminal "A" and terminal "B" of tilt switch side connector. (Scheme 14) If there is no continuity, replace combination switch.
Scheme 14
MANUAL SWITCH
- Disconnect connectors between tilt switch and CPU. Move manual switch upward and downward.
- Inspect continuity between terminal "A" and terminal "C" of tilt switch side connector. (Scheme 15) If not as specified, replace tilt switch.
Scheme 15
- Disconnect connectors between tilt sensor and CPU.
- Inspect continuity between following terminals of tilt sensor side connector. (Scheme 16) If not as specified, replace steering shaft component.
Scheme 16
Voltage Check - At Top Dead Position
- Insert ignition key into key cylinder (LOCK position). Turn on auto switch. Remove ignition key from key cylinder to raise steering wheel to top dead point position.
- Leave connectors connected. Connect positive (+) terminal of voltmeter to tilt sensor side connector's variable resistance pole side terminal "C" (at back of connector), and connect voltmeter's negative (-) terminal to body ground side of connector. (Scheme 17) If not as specified, replace steering shaft component.
Scheme 17
Voltage Check - At Bottom Dead Position
- Insert ignition key into ignition key cylinder (ignition is in ON position). Move manual switch downward to lower steering wheel to bottom dead point position. Leave connectors connected.
- Connect positive (+) terminal of voltmeter to tilt sensor side connector's variable resistance pole side terminal "C" (at back of connector), and connect voltmeter's negative (-) terminal to body ground side of connector. (Scheme 18) If not as specified, replace steering shaft component.
Scheme 18
Disconnect and inspect connectors between tilt relay to circuit breaker, CPU, tilt motor, and ground.
Tilt-Up Position
- While connecting battery positive terminal to terminal D, and battery negative terminal to B, inspect continuity between terminal H and terminal A of tilt relay side connector. (Scheme 19)
- If not as specified, replace tilt relay.
Scheme 19
Tilt-Down Position
- While connecting battery positive (+) terminal to terminal "D", and battery negative (-) terminal to terminal "J", check for continuity between terminal "H" and terminal "I" of tilt relay side connector. (Scheme 20)
- If not as specified, replace tilt relay.
Scheme 20
Relay Off - UP Side
- Inspect continuity between terminal "A" and terminal "C" of tilt relay side connector. (Scheme 21)
- If there is no continuity, replace tilt relay.
Scheme 21
Relay Off - DOWN Side
- Inspect continuity between terminal "I" and terminal "C" of tilt relay side connector. (Scheme 22)
- If there is no continuity, replace tilt relay.
