Manual Controls Inspection
Insert key into ignition switch and move manual switch up and down to verify steering wheel tilts up and down. (Scheme 2) To diagnose faulty operation, see DIAGNOSTIC CHART.
Note. Manual Control stops operation when any of the following occurs: The key is removed from ignition switch. Manual switch is turned off. Sensor senses bottom dead point. Sensor senses manual operation upper limit position. Electric current flows to motor for more than 10 seconds. Position sensor movement speed is below set value (1°56'04"/second).

Auto Control (Away Position) Inspection
- With auto switch turned on, verify steering wheel moves up until sensor senses top dead point when ignition key is pulled out. (Scheme 3)
- To diagnose faulty operation, see «DIAGNOSTIC CHART»(ref-123351-S10055208502001092400000). NOTE: Auto Control stops operation when any of the following occurs: Auto switch is turned off. Manual switch is turned on. Sensor senses top dead point. Electric current flows to motor for more than 10 seconds. Position sensor movement speed is below set value (1°56'04"/second). Ignition key is inserted again, and turned to ON or ACC.

Auto Control (Return Control) Inspection
- While auto switch turned on, check steering wheel moves back to position stored by computer (located inside CPU) during manual control (i.e. position before ignition key was pulled out) after ignition key is inserted and set it in ACC position or ignition switch at ON. (Scheme 4)
- To diagnose faulty operation, see «DIAGNOSTIC CHART»(ref-123351-S10055208502001092400000). NOTE: This control stops operation when the following occur: Auto switch is turned off. Manual switch is turned on. Stored position is reached. Electric current flows to motor for more than 10 seconds. Position sensor movement speed is below set value (1°56'04"/second). In initial state (when battery is connected, or when CPU is reset and there is no stored position), steering wheel returns to neutral position. The stored position is updated every time adjustment is performed using manual control.

Resistance Test
| CAUTION | When using ohmmeter, ensure no voltage is applied. If voltage is applied, ohmmeter may be damaged. |
- Disconnect connectors between tilt sensor and CPU.
- Measure resistance between terminal "B" and terminal "A" of tilt sensor side connector. (Scheme 6) If not as specified, replace steering shaft component.
