Discharge Headlight Service Warnings

1. To prevent electrical shock when replacing the discharge headlight, dry hands thoroughly, and work in an area out of rain.
2. When the light switch is on, approx. 25,000 V of high voltage passes through the discharge headlight socket. Because of the danger of electrical shock, do not insert fingers or a tester.
3. When the headlights are on, high voltage flows around the socket and bulb. When turning on the discharge headlights while working, always leave the headlights in the vehicle-installed condition to prevent electrical shock.

1. Because of the danger of electrical shock, when inspecting with a tester, do not inspect the discharge headlight control module as a single unit or disassemble it.

Discharge Headlight Control Module Reuse

1. If the discharge headlight control module is dented or damaged in any way, replace the module with a new one to prevent electrical shock and improper operation.
2. Although the control module may temporarily operate normally even though it has received an impact, it is possible that the interior may have been damaged. When reusing the control module, inspect the following items regarding discharge headlight illumination to verify that there are no malfunctions.

1. Verify that the discharge headlights illuminate normally by testing them several times under cold illumination (headlights off for approx. 10 min or more and then turned on) and hot illumination (headlights on for approx. 15 min or more, turned off for approx. 1 min, and then turned on again) conditions.
2. Inspect the headlight illumination in the period from directly after cold illumination until they are uniformly illuminated (approx. 5 min) and verify that there is no flickering or inconsistent brightness.
3. Turn on the headlights for approx. 30 min with normal condition bulbs and verify that there is no brightness difference between the right and left, and that illumination is consistent.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the fasteners and slightly bend back the mudguard.
3. Remove the cover.

5. Remove the discharge headlight. (See «DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT REMOVAL NOTE»(ref-448651-S35368571342012012000000) .) CAUTION: The bulb generates extremely high heat when it is illuminated. If the surface of the bulb is soiled, excessive heat will build up and the life of the bulb will be shortened. When replacing the bulb, hold the metal flange, not the glass.
6. Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Point the headlight beams to a wall and verify that the headlight beams are as shown in the illustration.
2. Make a screen as shown in the illustration using double-weight, white paper.
3. Adjust the tire pressure to the specification.
4. Position the unloaded vehicle on a flat, level surface.
5. Seat one person in the driver's seat.
6. Line up the vehicle with the wall so that the center of the headlight is 3 m {9.8 ft} away from the wall.
7. Measure the height at the center of the headlight. NOTE: Since the height of the vehicle varies depending on the vehicle situation, measure the height of the center of the headlight using the actual vehicle.
8. Align the center of the headlight with the center of the screen.
9. Block the light of the other headlight using a partition.
10. Start the engine and charge the battery.
11. Turn on the headlight low beams.
12. Set the headlight leveling switch to the 0 position, (vehicles with headlight leveling system)
13. Verify that the line at the bottom of the gradation zone is aligned with the H line.

1. If the line at the bottom of the gradation zone is not aligned with the H line, perform the following adjustment.

STEERING ANGLE SENSOR INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE

Note. The BCM stores the steering angle reference point using battery power supply. Therefore, if the following operations are performed and the power supply to the BCM is interrupted, the stored steering angle reference point will be erased.

1. The negative battery cable is disconnected
2. A fuse (ROOM) is removed
3. The BCM connector is disconnected
4. The steering angle sensor connector is disconnected
5. Replace the steering angle sensor
6. Replace the BCM

1. Inspect the wheel alignment, inflation pressure, and the installation condition of the steering wheel. If there is any malfunction, adjust the applicable part.
2. Connect the negative battery cable.
3. Switch the ignition to ON.
4. Confirm that the DSC indicator light illuminates and that the DSC OFF light flashes.
5. Turn the steering wheel to full right lock, then turn it to full left lock.
6. Confirm that the DSC OFF light and DSC indicator light goes out.

1. If the DSC indicator light does not go out, disconnect the negative battery cable, and perform the procedure again starting from Step 3 shown above.

Side Turn Light

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

4. Remove the side turn light. (See «SIDE TURN LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-448651-S09767693522012012000000) .)
5. Connect the battery voltage as shown in the illustration.

1. If the side turn light does illuminate, replace it.
2. If the side turn light illuminate, inspect the short-code.

1. Insert the inboard light into the trunk lid as shown in the illustration, then pivot it inward and fix in place.
2. Push the bracket onto the trunk lid as shown in the illustration and install.

1. Open the trunk lid.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Disconnect the high-mount brake light connector shown in the illustration.
4. Lift up the high-mount brake light in the direction of the arrow and detach the tabs.
5. Pull the high-mount brake light in the direction of the arrow shown in the illustration to detach the hooks and pin.
6. Remove the high-mount brake light.
7. Install in the reverse order of removal.

AUTO LIGHT/WIPER CONTROL MODULE CONFIGURATION

1. Connect the M-MDS (IDS) to the DLC-2.
2. After the vehicle is identified, select the following items from the initialization screen of the IDS. Select "Module Programming".
3. Then, select items from the screen menu in the following order. Select "Programmable Module Installation". Select "LCM".
4. Perform the configuration according to the directions on the screen.
5. Retrieve DTCs by the M-MDS, then verify that there is no DTC present.

1. If a DTC (s) is detected, perform the applicable DTC inspection. (See «DTC INSPECTION [AUTO LIGHT/WIPER CONTROL MODULE]»(ref-448674-S13571820292012012000000) .)

M-MDS FUNCTION CHART

Note. Other than the above conditions, an "Japan Only" command is also displayed, however, do not select the command because it is for use other than in Japan. If the mode is set to "Extra High (Except Japan)" and "High (Except Japan)", the illumination level for illuminating the TNS and headlight increases. Therefore, the TNS and headlights illuminate when the ambient light is brighter than when the level is set to "Standard (Except Japan)". In addition, if the mode is set to "Low (Except Japan)" and "Extra Low (Except Japan)", the illumination level for illuminating the TNS and headlights decreases. Therefore, the TNS and headlights illuminate when the ambient light is lower than when the level is set to "Standard (Except Japan)".
