Short circuit

  1. If there is continuity, there is a short circuit. Repair or replace the harness. VAD control solenoid valve terminal B and body GND VAD control solenoid valve terminal A and power supply

  1. Remove the VAD check valve (one-way). (See «INTAKE AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]»(ref-288764-S40241065462008062500000) ).
  2. Blow through A and verify that air flows from B.
  3. Blow through B and verify that air does not flow from A. If not as specified, replace the VAD check valve (one-way). (Scheme 268): Identifying VAD Check Valve (One-Way)
  1. If there is continuity, there is a short circuit. Repair or replace the harness. Throttle actuator terminal F and power supply Throttle actuator terminal F and GND Throttle actuator terminal E and power supply Throttle actuator terminal E and GND

  1. Remove the Variable intake air solenoid valve. (See «INTAKE AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]»(ref-288764-S40241065462008062500000) ).
  2. Inspect airflow between the ports under the following conditions. If not as specified, replace the Variable intake air solenoid valve. If as specified, carry out the "Circuit Open/Short Inspection". (Scheme 269): Continuity Check Chart (Scheme 270): Identifying Variable Intake Air Solenoid Valve Ports & Connector Terminal

  1. Disconnect the PCM connector. (See «PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]»(ref-288753-S02558926152008062500000) ).
  2. Inspect the following wiring harness for open or short circuit (continuity check). (Scheme 271): Identifying Variable Intake Air Solenoid Valve Connector Terminals

Open circuit

  1. If there is no continuity, there is an open circuit. Repair or replace the harness. Variable intake air solenoid valve terminal B and PCM terminal 2J Variable intake air solenoid valve terminal A and main relay terminal C
  1. If there is continuity, there is a short circuit. Repair or replace the harness. Variable intake air solenoid valve terminal B and body GND Variable intake air solenoid valve terminal A and power supply

  1. Remove the variable tumble solenoid valve. (See «INTAKE AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]»(ref-288764-S40241065462008062500000) ).
  2. Inspect airflow between the ports under the following conditions. If not as specified, replace the variable tumble solenoid valve. If as specified, carry out the "Circuit Open/Short Inspection".   1. Disconnect the PCM connector. (See «PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]»(ref-288753-S02558926152008062500000) ).
  2. Inspect the following wiring harness for open or short circuit (continuity check). (Scheme 274): Identifying Variable Tumble Solenoid Valve Connector Terminals
  1. If there is no continuity, there is an open circuit. Repair or replace the harness. Variable tumble solenoid valve terminal B and PCM terminal 21 Variable tumble solenoid valve terminal A and main relay terminal C
  1. If there is continuity, there is a short circuit. Repair or replace the harness. Variable tumble solenoid valve terminal B and body GND Variable tumble solenoid valve terminal A and power supply see scheme 22: PCM Connector Terminal Identification

  1. Remove the air hose. (See «INTAKE AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]»(ref-288764-S40241065462008062500000) ).
  2. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the Variable intake air solenoid valve.
  3. Connect a vacuum pump to the Variable intake air shutter valve actuator.

  1. Remove the air hose. (See «INTAKE AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]»(ref-288764-S40241065462008062500000) ).
  2. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the variable tumble solenoid valve.
  3. Connect a vacuum pump to the Variable tumble shutter valve actuator.
