DTC Inspection Note

  1. There are two methods of DTC inspection for the audio system: The on-board diagnostic test mode by operating the audio unit to activate the on-board diagnostic function, and using the M-MDS. (See «DTC INSPECTION [AUDIO]»(ref-579466-S14057924002013100700000) .)
CAUTIONBecause there are DTCs which are not available in the on-board diagnostic test mode, the displayed DTC may differ depending on whether the on-board diagnostic test mode or the M-MDS is used. If there is a malfunction in the audio system even though a DTC is not displayed in the on-board diagnostic test mode, perform the DTC inspection using the M-MDS. (See DTC TABLE [AUDIO] .)

Diagnostic Procedure

STEPINSPECTIONACTION
1Is CD inserted properly, label-side up?YesGo to the next step.
NoExplain to the customer that CD should be inserted into the slot, label-side up.
2Replace with a CD known to be good. Does the CD player load the CD?YesGo to the next step.
NoReplace the audio unit. (See AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .) (See AUDIO UNIT DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY .)
3Visually inspect the CD. Is there any dirt, scratch or deformation on the CD? Is the CD a non-conventional disc?YesExplain to the customer that the defective CD or non-conventional disc cannot be use.
NoGo to the next step.
4Switch the ignition to off. Inspect the connection of the audio unit connector (24-pin). Inspect both audio unit connector and wiring harness-side connector for poor connection. (such as damaged/bent/pulled-out pins, corrosion) All the pins and connector normal?YesReplace the audio unit. (See AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .) (See AUDIO UNIT DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY .)
NoIf the audio unit connector/ pin is wrong: Replace the audio unit. (See AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .) (See AUDIO UNIT DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY .) If the wiring harness-side connector/pin is wrong: Repair or replace the pins and/or the connector.
STEPINSPECTIONACTION
1Inspect the operation of the audio system other than CD player (e.g. Radio). Does other audio system operate?YesGo to Step 3.
NoGo to the next step.
2Switch the ignition to off. Inspect the connection of the audio unit connector (24-pin). Inspect both audio unit connector and wiring harness-side connector for poor connection. (such as damaged/bent/pulled-out pins, corrosion) All the pins and connector normal?YesGo to the next step.
NoIf the audio unit connector/pin is wrong: Replace the audio unit. (See AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .) (See AUDIO UNIT DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY .) If the wiring harness-side connector/pin is wrong: Repair or replace the pins and/or the connector.
3Eject the CD. Is the CD ejected from the CD player?YesGo to the next step.
NoInspect the panel switch and CD cover installation. Securely install the panel switch and/or CD cover as necessary.
4Insert the CD into the CD player. Does the CD insert into the CD player smoothly?YesReplace the audio unit. (See AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .) (See AUDIO UNIT DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY .)
NoInstall the audio panel and/or CD cover properly, then go to the next step.
5Is the CD ejected from the CD player?YesTroubleshooting completed. Explain repairs to the customers.

2Visually inspect the CD. Is the CD a deformed disc (e.g., out of specification (thickness), bent disc)?YesAudio system is normal. Explain to the customer that the CD is malfunctioning.

1Inspect the written format of the recorded data on the CD-R/RW. Is the written format correct?YesGo to the next step.
NoWrite the CD-R/RW with the correct specification.
2Inspect the recorded data in the CD-R/RW. Is there MP3/WMA and other format data in the CD-R/RW.YesReplace with the CD-R/RW known to be good (MP3/WMA-formatted file data only), then inspect the CD player operation. If the CD player plays the MP3/WMA-formatted file: Audio system is normal. Explain to the customer that the CD player does not operate properly if the MP3/WMA and other format data are in the CD-R/RW. If the CD player does not play the MP3/WMA-formatted file: Replace the audio unit. (See AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .) (See AUDIO UNIT DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY .)
NoGo to the next step.
3Inspect the CD-R/RW written format. Is the written format within the specification (".mp3" /".wma" is the correct file extension)?YesReplace with the CD-R/RW using the ".mp3" /".wma" file extension, then inspect the CD player operation. If the CD player plays the MP3/WMA-formatted file: Audio system is normal. Explain to the customer that the CD player does not operate properly if the correct file extension is not used. If the CD player does not play the MP3/WMA-formatted file: Replace the audio unit. (See AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .) (See AUDIO UNIT DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY .)

4Visually inspect the CD-R/RW. Is there any dirt or scratch on the CD-R/RW?YesClean the disc or replace with the CD-R/RW known to be good.

3Inspect folder and audio file name. Are all file name input correctly?YesGo to the next step.
NoUse the CD-R/RW that a folder and audio file name is input correctly.
4Inspect the encode for the folder and audio file name in the CD-R/RW. Is the encode correct? NOTE: Unreadable characters may be displayed if incorrect encode is used.YesGo to the next step.
NoUse the correct encode.
5Inspect the number of characters for the folder and audio file name. Is the number of characters within the maximum number of characters?YesReplace the audio unit. (See AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .) (See AUDIO UNIT DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY .)

2Inspect the display the LCD. Is the CD (other than MP3/WMA compatible) displayed on the LCD?YesGo to the next step. (MP-3)/Go to the step 4. (WMA)

3Inspect the ID tag version. Is the ID tag correct?YesGo to the next step.

5Inspect the encode for the folder and audio file name in the CD-R/RW. Is the encode correct?YesGo to the next step.

  1. The CD player has been designed to play CDs bearing the identification logo, COMPACT DISC DIGITAL AUDIO, as shown. No other discs can be played on the CD player other than MP3/WMA applicable one. (Scheme 221): Identifying Play CDs Bearing Identification Logo And COMPACT DISC DIGITAL AUDIO
  2. The CD player may not play the following CD: Defective CD (e.g., cracked, badly bent, rough edges, scratch, dirty CD condensation) CDs accessories (e.g., 8 cm (3 in) disc adapter (with CD player), sticker, label, Disc ring and protective sealant) Nonstandard CD (e.g., Diameter/thickness is out of specification) Specification: 119.7-120.3 mm (4.668-4.692 in) of diameter, 1.2+0.3 or -0.1 mm (0.047+0.012 or 0.004 in) of thickness
  3. Do not use non-conventional discs. The CD player could be damaged. Examples: (Scheme 222): Precaution For Do Not Use Non-Conventional Discs
  4. Although the same physical size as the compact disc, SACD uses a different kind of digital audio signal, Direct Stream Digital.
  5. The CD player may not play the CD-R/RW properly due to the disc condition (excluding the MP3/WMA).
