Range Selection
The 6F35 transaxle has 5 range positions: P, R, N, D and L with a TCS. The 6F50/6F55 transaxle has 5 range positions P, R, N, D and M with a SelectShift™ switch or paddle shifters.

Park
In the PARK position
- There is no powerflow through the transaxle.
- The parking pawl locks the final drive.
- The engine may be started.
- The ignition key may be removed.
Reverse
In the REVERSE position
- The vehicle may be operated in a rearward direction, at a reduced gear ratio.
- Engine braking will occur.
Neutral
In the NEUTRAL position
- There is no powerflow through the transaxle.
- The output shaft is not held and is free to turn.
- The engine may be started.
Drive Position With Grade Assist
DRIVE is the normal position for most forward driving.
DRIVE provides
- Automatic shifts - 1st through 6th gears.
- Apply and release of the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC).
- Maximum fuel economy during normal operation.
Manual L Position (vehicles equipped with a TCS)
In manual L position
- The transaxle provides maximum engine braking.
- The transaxle downshifts to the lowest available gear for the current vehicle speed.
Manual L position allows for 1st gear when the vehicle reaches slower speeds
Manual M Position (vehicles equipped with SelectShift™)
In manual M position
- The transaxle provides maximum engine braking.
- Gears 1 through 6 are available.
- The driver can manually shift the transaxle to gears 1 through 6 using the steering wheel mounted paddle shifters, or the SelectShift™ switch located on the selector lever knob.
- Grade assist is activated.
- The transaxle will select gears that will provide the engine braking desired, based on the vehicle inputs, this will increase engine rpm during engine braking.
Scheme 16
Drive with grade assist is activated when the TCS is pressed. The TCS is located on the selector lever knob. When the TCS is pressed, the 6th gear or O/D upshift is prevented or the transaxle shifts down to 5th gear. The TCS is meant to be used when driving conditions cause excessive shifting from 6th to other gears such as hilly terrain, mountainous areas or when engine braking is required.
Grade Assist
- Improves vehicle handling in hilly terrain or mountainous areas by providing engine braking and extending lower gear operation on uphill climbs.
- Additional engine braking is provided through the automatic transaxle shift strategy which reacts to vehicle inputs (vehicle acceleration, accelerator pedal, brake pedal and vehicle speed).
- The transaxle will select gears that will provide the engine braking desired, based on the vehicle inputs, this will increase engine rpm during engine braking.
It is recommended to return to DRIVE mode on flat terrain to provide the best fuel economy and transaxle function. The transaxle returns to O/D when the TCS is pressed again or anytime the key is turned OFF.

When the selector lever is moved to the M position, the driver can shift the transaxle manually using the steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.

Brake Shift Interlock
The brake shift interlock system consist of the
- BSIA.
- Ignition switch.
- Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch powered by fuse 71 (10A).
- Transmission Range (TR) sensor.
- Instrument Cluster (IC).
- Fuse 5 (10A).
- Smart Junction Box (SJB).
When the ignition switch is in RUN/START, the solenoid inhibits the selector lever movement (from the PARK position) if the brake pedal is not pressed.

- A1 CHECK DTCs Ignition ON. Connect the scan tool. Are DTCs B1319:11 and/or B1319:15 set? Yes : GO to A2. No : GO to A7 .
- A2 CHECK THE BCM FUSE 18 (10A) Ignition OFF. Remove Body Control Module (BCM) fuse 18 (10A). Check fuse: BCM 18 (10A). Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : Reinstall the fuse. GO to A3. No : GO to A4 .
- A3 CHECK THE BCM POWER CIRCUIT Disconnect: Floor Shifter Harness C3245. Inspect for damaged or pushed out terminals. Repair as necessary. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between the floor shifter harness C3245, circuit CET53 (BU/OG) and ground while applying the brake pedal. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to A6 . No : GO to A5 .
- A4 CHECK THE BSIA POWER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect: BCM C2280B. Measure the resistance between floor shifter harness C3245-3, circuit CET53 (BU/OG) harness side and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : INSTALL a new BCM. TEST the system for normal operation. No : REPAIR circuit CET53 (BU/OG) for a short to ground. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A5 CHECK THE BSIA POWER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Measure the resistance between floor shifter harness C3245-3, circuit CET53 (BU/OG) and BCM C2280B-49, circuit CET53 (BU/OG). Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : INSTALL a new BCM. «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-494579) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : REPAIR circuit CET53 (BU/OG) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A6 CHECK THE BSIA GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Ignition OFF. Measure the resistance between floor shifter harness C3245-4, circuit GD115 (BK/GY) and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to A7. No : REPAIR circuit GD112 (BK/GN) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A7 CHECK THE BSIA WITH THE SELECTOR LEVER CABLE DISCONNECTED If disconnected, connect the floor shifter harness C3245. Disconnect the selector lever cable at the selector lever. Ignition ON. Apply the brake pedal and move the selector lever out of the PARK position. Does the BSIA release the selector lever? Yes : CHECK the selector lever cable function and adjust the cable if necessary. REFER to «SELECTOR LEVER CABLE ADJUSTMENT - 6F35»(ref-494610-S40047770892012081400000) or «SELECTOR LEVER CABLE ADJUSTMENT - 6F50/6F55»(ref-494610-S26583135712012081400000) . No : INSTALL a new BSIA. - B1 CHECK DTCs Ignition ON. Connect the scan tool. Is DTC P0815 set? Yes : GO to B2. No : For DTC P0816, GO to B5 .
- B2 CHECK THE UPSHIFT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Floor Shifter Harness C3245. Inspect for damaged or pushed out terminals. Repair as necessary. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between floor shifter harness C3245-9, circuit CET43 (GY) harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to B4 . No : GO to B3.
- B3 CHECK THE UPSHIFT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Ignition OFF. Disconnect: PCM C175B. Measure the resistance between floor shifter harness C3245-9, circuit CET43 (GY) harness side and PCM C175B-23. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to B4. No : REPAIR circuit CET43 (GY) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- B4 CHECK THE SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Connect: PCM C175B. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between floor shifter harness C3245-9 and C3245-8 circuit RE407 (YE/VT) harness side. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to B5. No : REPAIR the signal return circuit RE407 (YE/VT) for an open. If no open is found, REPLACE the PCM. PROGRAM the PCM with the latest calibration level. PERFORM the solenoid body strategy data download procedure, REFER to Solenoid Body Strategy in «AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 6F50/6F55»(ref-494558) or «AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - 6F35»(ref-494559) . TEST the system for normal operation.
- B5 CHECK THE SELECTSHIFT™ SWITCH Disconnect the SelectShift™ connector in the selector lever assembly and measure the resistance between SelectShift™ connector component side while cycling the SelectShift™ upshift switch. Is the resistance less than 1.5 ohm? Yes : INSTALL a new selector lever. REFER to «SELECTOR LEVER»(ref-494610-S22757293542012081400000) . No : INSTALL a new SelectShift™ switch. REFER to «SELECTSHIFT™ SWITCH»(ref-494610-S42420261742012081400000) .
- B6 CHECK THE DOWNSHIFT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Floor Shifter Harness C3245. Inspect for damaged or pushed out terminals. Repair as necessary. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between floor shifter harness C3245-10, circuit CET42 (GN/VT) harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to B7. No : GO to B6 .
- B7 CHECK THE DOWNSHIFT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Ignition OFF. Disconnect: PCM C175B. Inspect for damaged or pushed out terminals. Repair as necessary. Measure the resistance between floor shifter harness C3245-10, circuit CET42 (GN/VT) harness side and PCM C175B-24. Is the resistance greater than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to B7 . No : REPAIR circuit CET42 (GN/VT) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- B8 CHECK THE SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Connect: PCM C175B. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between floor shifter harness C3245-10 and C3245-8 circuit RE407 (YE/VT) harness side. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to B9. No : REPAIR the signal return circuit RE407 (YE/VT) for an open. If no open is found, REPLACE the PCM. PROGRAM the PCM with the latest calibration level. PERFORM the solenoid body strategy data download procedure, REFER to Solenoid Body Strategy in «AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 6F50/6F55»(ref-494558) or «AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - 6F35»(ref-494559) . - B9 CHECK THE SELECTSHIFT™ SWITCH Disconnect the SelectShift™ connector in the selector lever assembly and measure the resistance between SelectShift™ connector component side while cycling the SelectShift™ downshift switch. Is the resistance less than 1.5 ohm? Yes : INSTALL a new selector lever. REFER to «SELECTOR LEVER»(ref-494610-S22757293542012081400000) . No : INSTALL a new SelectShift™ switch. - C4 CHECK THE SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Connect: PCM C175B. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between paddle shifter switch C2428-1 circuit CET43 (GY) and C2428-2 circuit RE407 (YE/VT) harness side. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : INSTALL a new paddle shifter. REFER to «SELECTOR LEVER - PADDLE SHIFT»(ref-494610-S34744214332012081400000) . No : REPAIR the signal return circuit RE407 (YE/VT) for an open. If no open is found, REPLACE the PCM. PROGRAM the PCM with the latest calibration level. - D1 CHECK THE IC Connect the scan tool. Using the scan tool, monitor the TCS PID while cycling the Transmission Control Switch (TCS). Does the TCS PID cycle from depressed to not depressed? Yes : REFER to «INSTRUMENTATION, MESSAGE CENTER, AND WARNING CHIMES»(ref-494581) . No : GO to D2.
- D2 CHECK BCM FUSE 42 (5A) Ignition OFF. Check fuse: Body Control Module (BCM) 42 (5A). Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to D3. No : GO to D4 .
- D3 CHECK THE TCS POWER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Floor Shifter Harness C3245. Disconnect: BCM Fuse 42 (5A). Measure the resistance between floor shifter harness C3245-6, circuit CBP42 (GN) and the output side of BCM fuse 42 (5A). Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to D4. No : REPAIR circuit CBP42 (GN) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- D4 CHECK THE TCS POWER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect: C3245. Disconnect: BCM Fuse 42 (5A). Measure the resistance between floor shifter harness C3245-6, circuit CBP42 (GN) and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to D5. No : REPAIR circuit CBP42 (GN) for a short to ground. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- D5 CHECK THE TCS SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: PCM C175T. Measure the resistance between floor shifter harness C3245-5, circuit CET34 (BN/GN) and PCM C175T-31. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to D6. No : REPAIR circuit CET34 (BN/GN) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- D6 CHECK THE TCS SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Measure the resistance between floor shifter harness C3245-5, circuit CET34 (BN/GN) and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to D7. No : REPAIR circuit CET34 (BN/GN) for a short to ground. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- D7 CHECK THE TCS Measure the resistance between floor shifter harness C3245-5 and C3245-6 component side, while cycling the TCS. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms when pressed and greater than 10, 000 ohms when released? Yes : REPLACE the PCM. PROGRAM the PCM with the latest calibration level. PERFORM the solenoid body strategy data download procedure, REFER to Solenoid Body Strategy in «AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 6F50/6F55»(ref-494558) or «AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - 6F35»(ref-494559) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : INSPECT the floor shifter wiring harness for damage and repair as necessary. If the floor shifter wiring harness is not damaged, INSTALL a new selector lever knob. REFER to «SELECTOR LEVER KNOB»(ref-494610-S05758695022012081400000) . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

- Disconnect the selector lever cable end from the manual control lever.
- Place the selector lever in DRIVE.
- Place the manual control lever in DRIVE. Rotate the manual control lever clockwise until it stops. Rotate the manual control lever counterclockwise one detent.
- Unlock the adjuster. Pry the latch up. Push the lock tab to slide it over.
- Slide the selector lever cable end forward or backward to align it with the manual control lever.
- With the adjuster locking tab released, connect the selector lever cable end to the manual control lever.
- Slide the release tab back to lock the adjuster.
- Verify that the vehicle starts in PARK and NEUTRAL only and that the reverse lamps illuminate in REVERSE.

- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to «INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING»(ref-494599) .
- Disconnect the selector lever cable end from the manual control lever.
- Place the selector lever in DRIVE.
- Place the manual control lever in DRIVE. Rotate the manual control lever clockwise until it stops. Rotate the manual control lever counterclockwise 3 detent stops.
- Release the selector lever cable adjuster lock. Carefully pry outward the adjuster lock tabs. While holding the adjuster lock tabs outward, slide the lock to unlock the selector lever cable.
- With the adjuster locking tab released, connect the selector lever cable end to the manual control lever.
- Slide the release tab back to lock the adjuster.
- Install the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to «INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING»(ref-494599) .
- Verify that the vehicle starts in PARK and NEUTRAL only and that the reverse lamps illuminate in REVERSE.
