FILTER REPLACEMENT
This procedure is included in valve body removal and installation. See VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| WARNING | Vehicle is equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. When servicing vehicle, use care to avoid accidental air bag deployment. SIR system related components are located in various locations throughout interior and exterior of vehicle, depending on application. Do not use electrical test equipment on or near these circuits. If necessary, deactivate SIR system before servicing components. See AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in AIRBAG article in RESTRAINTS. |
| CAUTION | When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery. |
Note. For component locations. see scheme 7

| CAUTION | A large amount of material debris including steel (magnetic) and non magnetic (brass, aluminum or clutch fiber particles) may indicate excessive transmission wear or damage. Check magnets in oil pan for steel particles which indicate bearing, plate or hardware damage. |
| CAUTION | When removing transmission oil pan, filter and valve body components, note bolt size, location and length for reassembly reference. |
| CAUTION | When working with FIPG material, perform the following: Using a razor blade and gasket scraper, remove all the old, FIPG material from the gasket surfaces. Thoroughly clean all components to remove any loose material. Clean both sealing surfaces with a non-residue solvent. Apply FIPG in continuous line width approximately 0.04 in. (1 mm) wide along the sealing surface. Parts must be assembled within 10 minutes of application. Otherwise, the FIPG material must be removed and reapplied. |
