SERVICE INTERVALS

As part of general maintenance requirements for this vehicle, manufacturer requires checking for transmission fluid leaks.

Under normal conditions, manufacturer recommends transmission fluid be inspected every 30,000 miles. See DRAINING & REFILLING .

Under severe conditions (vehicle is used primarily to tow a trailer or haul a car top carrier), manufacturer recommends inspecting transmission fluid every 30,000 miles to determine its condition and determine need for replacement. Manufacturer recommends replacing transmission fluid at 60,000 mile intervals. See DRAINING & REFILLING .

DRAINING & REFILLING

Add automatic transmission fluid. (Scheme 14)

  1. When adding a maximum amount of fluid [*1]: Lift up the vehicle. Remove the 2 bolts and transmission case cover. (Scheme 15) Remove the refill plug and overflow plug. (Scheme 16) CAUTION: Be sure to add ATF WS. Add ATF to the refill hole until it drains out from the overflow hole. (Scheme 16) Install a gasket and the overflow plug. Tighten overflow plug to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168062-S35340773342004102900000). CAUTION: Refill amount is different depending on the related procedures. Add proper amount of ATF to the refill hole. See «FLUID CAPACITIES»(ref-168062-S18665687542004102900000). Install a new "O" ring and the refill plug. Tighten refill plug to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168062-S35340773342004102900000). Lower down the vehicle. NOTE: Create a short-circuit between terminals TC, OPA, and CG, for a vehicle equipped with air suspension. Using an SST, short-circuit between terminals TC and CG of the DLC3. (SST 09843-18040). (Scheme 17) NOTE: Turn the A/C off. If the vehicle is equipped with a smart key, be sure to start the engine by inserting the key into the key cylinder. Start the engine. Slowly move the shift lever from the "P" to the "S" position, shift the gear from 1st to 6th and then return the shift lever to the "P" position. NOTE: Standard: Meter indicator light "D" comes on for 2 seconds and then goes off. Switch to the fluid temperature detection mode: Move the shift lever from the "N" to the "D" position, or from "D" to "N", within 1.5 seconds. Perform the above procedure for 6 seconds or more. NOTE: Do not disconnect terminal OPA on a vehicle with air suspension. Disconnect terminal TC after confirming the above condition. Idle the engine to raise fluid temperature. NOTE: Add fluid only when the meter indicator light is on. Perform the procedure while the engine is idling. (Scheme 18) Lift up the vehicle right after the meter indicator light "D" comes on. (Scheme 18) NOTE: "Overflow" indicates the condition that ATF drains out from the overflow tube. Remove the overflow plug. If ATF overflows, proceed to [*2]. If ATF does not overflow, proceed to [*3].
  2. When fluid overflow [*2]: WARNING: Be careful when handing the drained ATF as its temperature is high. Install a new gasket and overflow plug when the draining ATF becomes a trickle. Tighten overflow plug to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168062-S35340773342004102900000). Install a new "O" ring and refill plug. Tighten refill plug to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168062-S35340773342004102900000). Install the transmission case cover with the 2 bolts. (Scheme 15) Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168062-S35340773342004102900000). Lower down the vehicle. Turn the ignition switch off and remove the SST.
  3. When fluid does not overflow [*3]: Remove the refill plug. (Scheme 16) Add ATF to the refill hole until it drains out from the overflow hole. Install a new gasket and overflow plug when the draining ATF becomes a trickle. Tighten overflow plug to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168062-S35340773342004102900000). Install a new "O" ring and tighten the refill plug to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168062-S35340773342004102900000). Install the transmission case cover with the 2 bolts. (Scheme 15) Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168062-S35340773342004102900000). Lower down the vehicle. Turn the ignition switch off and remove the SST.
  4. When adding a minimum amount of fluid [*4]: NOTE: Create a short-circuit between terminals TC, OPA, and CG, for a vehicle equipped with air suspension. If ATF overflows, proceed to [*5]. If ATF does not overflow, proceed to [*6]. (Scheme 16)
  5. When fluid overflows [*5]: (Scheme 16) WARNING: Be careful when handing the drained ATF as its temperature is high. Install a new gasket and overflow plug when the draining ATF becomes a trickle. Tighten overflow plug to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168062-S35340773342004102900000). Install the transmission case cover with the 2 bolts. (Scheme 15) Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168062-S35340773342004102900000). Lower down the vehicle. Turn the ignition switch off and remove the SST.
  6. When fluid does not overflow [*6]: Remove the refill plug. (Scheme 16) Add ATF to the refill hole until it drains out from the overflow hole. Install a new gasket and the overflow plug when the draining ATF becomes a trickle. Tighten overflow plug to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168062-S35340773342004102900000). Install a new gasket and refill plug. Tighten refill plug to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168062-S35340773342004102900000). Install the transmission case cover with the 2 bolts. (Scheme 15) Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168062-S35340773342004102900000). Lower down the vehicle. Turn the ignition switch off and remove the SST.
