REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| WARNING | Vehicles are equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. When servicing vehicles, use care to avoid accidental air bag deployment. SIR system-related components are located in various locations throughout interior and exterior of vehicles, depending on application. Do not use electrical test equipment on or near these circuits. If necessary, deactivate SIR system before servicing components. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS. |
| CAUTION | When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery. |
Disconnect electrical connector. Remove lock nut, and unscrew stop light switch. To install, screw stop light switch inward until stop light plunger contacts brake pedal.
Removal
Remove the 3 retainers and ECM cover. Remove the 2 nuts. (Scheme 17)and (Scheme 18). Disconnect the connectors and remove the ECM.
Installation
Connect the connectors and install the ECM with 2 nuts. Tighten to 49 INCH lbs. (5.5 N.m). Install the ECM cover with the 3 retainers.

Disconnect electrical connector from sensor. Remove bolt and sensor. To install sensor, reverse removal procedure and tighten bolt to 48 INCH lbs. (5.4 N.m).
PNP switch is located on side of transmission. Remove lock nut, washer and manual lever from control shaft. Bend up tabs on lock washer. Remove lock nut, lock washer and seal from control shaft. Remove retaining bolt and switch. (Scheme 19)
- Install switch on control shaft. Loosely install switch retaining bolt. Install seal and lock washer. Install lock nut and tighten to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-140961-S13382533262002061000000). Bend tabs on lock washer over against lock nut.
- Ensure parking brake is applied. Temporarily install manual lever on control shaft. Place the gearshift lever in "N" position. Remove manual lever. Rotate PNP switch and align neutral basic line on PNP switch with groove. (Scheme 19)
- Hold PNP switch in this position. Tighten retaining bolt to specification. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure.

Raise and support vehicle. Drain fluid. Remove oil pan, filler tube, gasket, oil strainer and magnets from oil pan. See LUBRICATION in appropriate SERVICING article. Disconnect connectors from each solenoid and A/T fluid temperature sensor. Remove solenoid wiring harness and stopper plate. Solenoids are located on transmission valve body. see scheme 3 Remove bolt, solenoid and "O" ring from valve body. To install, reverse removal procedure using NEW "O" ring. Tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
Disconnect electrical connector. Remove bolt and vehicle speed sensor from transmission extension housing. To install, reverse removal procedure, tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
