FRONT WIPER & WASHER

With the ignition SW turned on, the current flows to TERMINAL 17 of the front wiper and washer SW, and TERMINAL 2 of the front wiper motor through the WIPER fuse, TERMINAL 2 of the washer motor through the WASHER fuse. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .

Low Speed Position

With the wiper SW turned to the LO position, the current flows from TERMINAL 17 of the front wiper and washer SW to TERMINAL 7 to TERMINAL 1 of the front wiper motor to TERMINAL 5 to GROUND and causes the front wiper motor to run at low speed. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .

High Speed Position

With the wiper SW turned to the HI position, the current flows from TERMINAL 17 of the front wiper and washer SW to TERMINAL 8 to TERMINAL 4 of the front wiper motor to TERMINAL 5 to GROUND and causes the front wiper motor to run at high position. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .

INT Position

With the wiper SW turned to INT position, the relay operates and the current which is connected by relay function flows from TERMINAL 17 of the front wiper and washer SW to TERMINAL 2 to GROUND. This flow of current operates the intermittent circuit and the current flows from TERMINAL 17 of the front wiper and washer SW to TERMINAL 7 to TERMINAL 1 of the front wiper motor to TERMINAL 5 to GROUND and operates the wiper. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .

The intermittent operation is controlled by the charge/discharge function of the condenser installed in the relay, and the intermittent time is controlled by a time control SW to change the charging time of the condenser.

MIST Position

With the wiper SW pulled to MIST position, the current flows from TERMINAL 17 of the front wiper and washer SW to TERMINAL 7 to TERMINAL 1 of the front wiper motor to TERMINAL 5 to GROUND and causes the wiper motor to run at low speed. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .

HEADLIGHT CLEANER SWITCH

To spray fluid on the headlights, push the switch with the headlights on. The ignition key must be in the ON position.

HEADLIGHT CLEANER MOTOR CIRCUIT

Disconnect the connector from the cleaner motor and inspect the connector on the wire harness side. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . See INSPECTING HEADLIGHT CLEANER MOTOR CIRCUIT table. If the circuit is not as specified, inspect the circuits connected to other parts.

INSPECTING WIPER/WASHER SWITCH CIRCUIT

HEADLIGHT CLEANER MOTOR

CAUTIONThese tests must be performed quickly (within 20 seconds) to prevent the coil from burning out.

Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 2 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 1, check that the motor operates. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If operation is not as specified, replace the motor. See HEADLIGHT CLEANER ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.

HEADLIGHT CLEANER RELAY

  1. Check that no continuity exists between terminals 2 and 5. See «CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION»(ref-154578-S28345836932003051900000) .
  2. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminals 1 and 5, and the negative (-) lead to terminal 3.
  3. Connect the negative (-) lead from the battery to terminal 4, and check that continuity exists between terminals 2 and 5 for 0.9-1.1 seconds, then no continuity exists.
  4. If operation is not as specified, replace the motor. See «HEADLIGHT CLEANER ASSEMBLY»(ref-154578-S33907558212003051900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.

Inspect the headlight cleaner switch continuity. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . See INSPECTING HEADLIGHT CLEANER SWITCH CONTINUITY table. If continuity is not as specified, replace the switch.

INSPECTING HEADLIGHT CLEANER SWITCH CONTINUITY

WASHER MOTOR (FRONT)

CAUTIONThese tests must be performed quickly (within 20 seconds) to prevent the coil from burning out.

Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 2 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 1, check that the motor operates. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If the operation is not as specified, replace the motor.

WASHER MOTOR (REAR)

Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 2 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 3, check that the motor operates. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If the operation is not as specified, replace the motor.

WIPER MOTOR (FRONT)

  1. Low Speed Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 1 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 5, check that the motor operates at low speed. See «CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION»(ref-154578-S28345836932003051900000). If the operation is not as specified, replace the motor. See «WIPER MOTOR (FRONT)»(ref-154578-S16676594482003051900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. High Speed Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 4 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 5, check that the motor operates at high speed. If operation is not as specified, replace the motor. See «WIPER MOTOR (FRONT)»(ref-154578-S16676594482003051900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Stopping At Stop Position Operate the motor at low speed and stop the motor operation anywhere except at the stop position by disconnecting the positive (+) lead from terminal 1. (Scheme 25) Connect terminals 1 and 3. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 2 and the negative (-) lead terminal 5, check that the motor stops running at the stop position after the motor operates again. If operation is not as specified, replace the motor. See «WIPER MOTOR (FRONT)»(ref-154578-S16676594482003051900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.

WIPER MOTOR (REAR)

  1. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 3 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 1 and the motor body, check that the motor operates. See «CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION»(ref-154578-S28345836932003051900000) . Disconnect the negative (-) lead from terminal 1, check that the motor stops running at the stop position. If operation is not as specified, replace the motor. See «WIPER MOTOR (REAR)»(ref-154578-S14143914312003051900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Intermittent Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 3 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 2 and the motor body, check that the motor operates intermittently for 9-15 seconds. If the operation is not as specified, replace the motor. See «WIPER MOTOR (REAR)»(ref-154578-S14143914312003051900000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.

WIPER/WASHER SWITCH (FRONT)

Inspect the front wiper and washer switch continuity. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . See INSPECTING FRONT WIPER/WASHER SWITCH CONTINUITY table. If continuity is not as specified, replace the switch. See WIPER/WASHER SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
