HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING

HINT

  1. Use the following procedure to troubleshoot the windshield deicer system.
  2. *: Use the Techstream.
  1. VEHICLE BROUGHT TO WORKSHOP NEXT: Go to next step
  2. CUSTOMER PROBLEM ANALYSIS HINT: In troubleshooting, confirm that the problem symptoms have been accurately identified. Preconceptions should be discarded in order to make an accurate judgment. To clearly understand what the problem symptoms are, it is extremely important to ask the customer about the problem and the conditions at the time the malfunction occurred. Gather as much information as possible for reference. Past problems that seem unrelated may also help in some cases. The following 5 items are important points in the problem analysis: What Vehicle model, system name When Date, time, occurrence frequency Where Road conditions Under what conditions? Driving conditions, weather conditions How did it happen? Problem symptoms NEXT: Go to next step
  3. INSPECT BATTERY VOLTAGE Measure the battery voltage. Standard Voltage 11 to 14 V If the voltage is below 11 V, recharge or replace the battery before proceeding to the next step. NEXT: Go to next step
  4. CHECK COMMUNICATION FUNCTION OF AVC-LAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM Check the AVC-LAN communication function to ensure there are no malfunctions in the communication system. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-387171-S27895678712011022400000) . Result Result Proceed to DTC is not output. A DTC is output. B B --> GO TO NAVIGATION SYSTEM. Refer to «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART»(ref-387171-S24868684802011022400000) A: Go to next step
  5. CHECK COMMUNICATION FUNCTION OF MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM* Using the Techstream, check the multiplex communication function to ensure there are no malfunctions in the communication system. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-386979-S23958756232011022400000) . Result Result Proceed to DTC is not output. A DTC is output. B B --> GO TO MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART»(ref-386979-S33914524662011022400000) A: Go to next step
  6. PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE Refer to Problem Symptoms Table. Refer to «PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE»(ref-387186-S33752061622011022400000) . Result Result Proceed to Fault is not listed in Problem Symptoms Table. A Fault is listed in Problem Symptoms Table. B B --> Go to step 8 A: Go to next step
  7. OVERALL ANALYSIS AND TROUBLESHOOTING* Terminals of ECU. Refer to «TERMINALS OF ECU»(ref-387186-S35992644102011022400000) Data List / Active Test. Refer to «DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST»(ref-387186-S04185496492011022400000) NEXT: Go to next step
  8. REPAIR OR REPLACE NEXT: Go to next step
  9. CONFIRMATION TEST NEXT --> END

PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE

  1. CHECK AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY Disconnect the K52 A/C amplifier assembly connector. Measure the voltage and resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. HINT: Measure the values on the wire harness side with the connector disconnected. STANDARD VOLTAGE Tester Connection Wiring Color Terminal Description Condition Specified Condition K52-4 (FDEF) - K52-20 (GND) GR - W-B Front deicer signal Power switch on (IG), windshield deicer switch off 11 to 14 V Power switch on (IG), windshield deicer switch on Below 1 V K52-21 (IG+) - K52-20 (GND) W - W-B Power source (IG) Power switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V Power switch off Below 1 V K52-1 (B) - K52-20 (GND) L - W-B Power source (Back-up) Always 11 to 14 V STANDARD RESISTANCE Tester Connection Wiring Color Terminal Description Condition Specified Condition K52-20 (GND) - Body ground W-B - Body ground Ground Always Below 1 ohms If the result is not as specified, there may be a malfunction in the wire harness or amplifier.

DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST HINT: Using the Techstream to perform Active Tests allows relays, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the power switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Active Test. AIR CONDITIONER Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note Deicer Relay (Front) Windshield deicer OFF or ON

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note. Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure. The windshield deicer system uses AVC-LAN and BEAN communication. First, confirm that there is no malfunction in the AVC-LAN and BEAN communication systems. Refer to the How to Proceed with Troubleshooting procedure. Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING .
