DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

WARNINGVehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting any repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
CAUTIONWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.

The power window system has the following functions

  1. Manual Up-and-Down Function - This function causes the window to open or close while the power window switch is being pulled halfway up or pushed halfway down. The window stops as soon as the switch is released.
  2. All Door One-Touch Auto Up-and-Down Function - The all door one-touch auto up-and-down function enables the window of all doors to be fully opened or closed at a touch of the power window switch.
  3. Jam Protection Function - A jam protection function automatically stops the power window and moves it downward if a foreign object gets jammed in the window during one-touch auto-up operation.
  4. Remote Control Function - The up-and-down operations of the front passenger door window and the rear door windows can be controlled by operating the power window master switch.
  5. Key-Off Operation Function - The driver's door key-off operation function makes it possible to operate the power window for approximately 43 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the ACC or LOCK position, if the front doors are not opened.
  6. Key-Linked Down Function - A key-linked down function, which is linked to the driver door key cylinder operation, opens the windows of all the doors.
  7. Transmitter-Linked Down Function - When the body ECU receives an unlock signal from the transmitter continuously for longer than 2.5 seconds, the door ECUs control their power window motors in accordance with the signal to open the windows.

SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK

  1. Trouble shooting of a power window system complaint begins with verification of the customer problem. If problem occurs, go to step 3 . If problem does not occur, go to next step.
  2. If problem does not occur, review conditions under which problem occurred for customer and try to duplicate those conditions. For example, if the problem occurs on rainy days or during high humidity conditions, sprinkle water onto vehicle and see if malfunction occurs. DO NOT sprinkle water directly into engine compartment or onto electronic components. Visually inspect for signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Inspect for blown fuses and damaged relays. Inspect for loose or corroded connections, damaged wiring harnesses and/or switches. Check for a broken or partially broken wire inside insulation, which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with system disconnected. Ensure any aftermarket electronic equipment is properly installed. If fault is found, repair as necessary. If problem still cannot be created, go to next step.
  3. Check that there is no abnormality in the communication system by inspecting the communication function of the body multiplex communication system with a hand-held tester. If there are code outputs (ECU unconnected and the communication line abnormal), go to «MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - ES 300»(ref-152050) article in COMMUNICATION DEVICES. If there are no code outputs (ECU unconnected and the communication line abnormal), go to the next step.
  4. Determine DTC, go to «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS»(ref-152599-S39716205202003021400000) table. Check a DTC and note it if a code is output. Delete the DTC. Check if the DTC will be output once again, when the problem symptom is simulated based on the noted code. When no code is output (symptom check and simulation is possible), go to the next step. When no code is output (symptom check and simulation not possible), go to step 7 .
  5. Determine problem symptom, see «PROBLEM SYMPTOMS»(ref-152599-S16026086712003021400000) table. If there are applicable symptoms, go to step 7 . If there are no applicable symptoms, go to the next step. Inspect with the hand-held tester (ECU data monitor) and inspect with the hand-held tester (active test). Inspect the terminals of ECU. See «TERMINALS OF ECU»(ref-152599-S32094818482003021400000) under COMPONENT TESTS.
  7. After problem has been identified and repaired, confirm repairs. After repairs have been completed, confirm that problem has been eliminated. Operate system under same conditions recorded for original complaint. If problem is no longer present and no DTCs are present, repair has corrected problem. If problem is still present or DTCs are reset, further diagnosis and repair is required.
