DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS
Circuit Description
Note. The power window system uses a large-scale body multiplex communications system. First of all, confirm the communication function and check that there is no abnormality in the communication system. Also if the power window system has a malfunction in the jam protection function, the power window AUTO UP/DOWN does not operate and a diagnosis code is recorded. Confirm the diagnosis code.
When the ignition switch is ON, the driver's door ECU (power window regulator master switch) monitors the signal via the power window regulator master switch and drives the power window motor.
Inspection Procedure
- Perform the Active Test by using the hand-held tester. Check data monitor (for MANUAL UP/DOWN switch). Using the hand-held tester, check that DTC B1221 is output when the switch is operated. Using DTC B1221, which is a code when any master switch is constantly turned on, the MANUAL UP/DOWN switch operation can be monitored. If there is an output of DTC B1221 when the manual UP/DOWN switch is ON or no output of DTC B1221 when the manual UP/DOWN switch is OFF, the switch circuit can be considered normal. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not good, go to step 3 .
- Perform the Active Test by using the hand-held tester: Select the Active Test and then check that the power window operates (P/W UP/DOWN). During the Active Test, the hand-held tester sends a signal to the door ECU to drive the power window motor. If the power window operates, the power window motor itself and the wiring harness between the power window motor and door ECU is considered normal. Perform Data Monitor (for AUTO UP/DOWN switch) of the door ECU. The Data Monitor displays on the hand-held tester the switch condition judged by the door ECU. If the display changes according to the actual switch operation (ON: AUTO UP/DOWN switch ON and OFF: AUTO UP/DOWN switch OFF), the switch itself and the wiring harness between the switch and door ECU is considered normal. If the Active Test and Data Monitor are both OK or if only the Active Test is OK and the Data Monitor is not good, replace the power window regulator master switch assembly. See «POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH»(ref-152599-S22926261652003021800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the Active Test is not good and the Data Monitor is OK, go to «POWER WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR ASSEMBLY CIRCUIT (DRIVER'S DOOR)»(ref-152599-S41976473852003021700000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If the Active Test and Data Monitor are both not good, go the next step.
- Replace the power window regulator master switch assembly. See «POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH»(ref-152599-S22926261652003021800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check the power window operation. If the operation is not good, go to «POWER WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR ASSEMBLY CIRCUIT (DRIVER'S DOOR)»(ref-152599-S41976473852003021700000) under COMPONENT TESTS.
When the ignition switch is ON, the passenger's door ECU (power window regulator switch) monitors the signal via the power window regulator switch and drives the power window motor.
- Perform the Active Test by using the hand-held tester. Check data monitor (for MANUAL UP/DOWN switch). Using the hand-held tester, check that DTC B1223 is output when the switch is operated. Using DTC B1223, which is a code when any master switch is constantly turned on, the MANUAL UP/DOWN switch operation can be monitored. If there is an output of DTC B1223 when the manual UP/DOWN switch is ON or no output of DTC B1223 when the manual UP/DOWN switch is OFF, the switch circuit can be considered normal.
If the Active Test and Data Monitor are both OK or if only the Active Test is OK and the Data Monitor is not good, replace the power window regulator switch assembly. See «POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH»(ref-152599-S22926261652003021800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. When the ignition switch is ON, the master switch (door ECU) sends to the passenger's door ECU for multiply a remote switch signal. Then the passenger's door ECU drives the power window motor for the passenger door. The master switch (door ECU) signals body ECU and to the left hand and right hand rear window regulator switches for multiply a remote switch signal. Then the left hand power window regulator switch drives the left hand power window motor and the right hand power window regulator switch drives the right hand power window motor. (Scheme 11)

- Check the power door lock operation. If the operation is OK, go to the next step. If the operation is not good, go to «POWER DOOR LOCKS, TRUNK LID & FUEL DOOR RELEASE»(ref-151739) article in DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS.
- Check the DTC code. Check data monitor (for MANUAL UP/DOWN switch). Using a hand-held tester, check that the DTC B1221 is output when the switch is operated. Using DTC B1221, which is a code when any master switch is constantly turned on, the MANUAL UP/DOWN switch operation can be monitored. If there is an output of DTC B1221 when the switch is operated, the switch circuit can be considered normal. If there is an output of DTC B1221 when the manual UP/DOWN switch is ON or no output of DTC B1221 when the manual UP/DOWN switch is OFF, the switch circuit can be considered normal. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not good, replace the power window regulator master switch assembly. See «POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH»(ref-152599-S22926261652003021800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
