DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

WARNINGDeactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.

The Automatic Drive Positioner (ADP) system performs 3 functions. ADP automatically adjusts driver's seat and steering column to desired position previously set in memory, automatically moves seat and steering column for ease of exiting vehicle, and automatically returns seat and steering column to previous position after entering vehicle. Two drive positions may be stored in memory to accommodate multiple drivers. The ADP system may also be adjusted manually by pressing the driver's side power seat switches or the steering column adjustment switch.

Driver's seat and steering column will move automatically when the following conditions are met

  1. Key is removed from ignition switch.
  2. Driver's door is opened when ignition switch is turned to LOCK or OFF position.
  3. When ignition switch is turned from ACC position to OFF position with door open and gear shift lever in "P" position. Driver's seat will move backward and steering column will move up.

Driver's seat and steering column will return to the preset drive position when the following conditions are met

  1. Key inserted into ignition switch.
  2. Driver's door is closed with ignition switch turned to LOCK or OFF position.
  3. Ignition turned from ACC position to ON position with gear selector lever in "P" position.

The ADP system consists of Body Control Module (BCM), driver's seat control unit, power seat switches, seat memory switches, ADP steering column switch (tilt, telescopic and cancel), steering column tilt and telescopic motors, seat sliding, lifting, lumbar and reclining motors, ignition switch, driver's door switch and Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). See COMPONENT LOCATIONS table. The ADP system also incorporates a self-diagnostic system. The self-diagnostic system may be accessed by using on-board diagnostics Mode V, or Nissan CONSULT scan tool.
