FAIL-SAFE SYSTEM
Note. Driver's seat control unit may also be known as Local Control Unit 05 (LCU 05).
The driver's seat control unit (LCU 05) and Body Control Module (BCM) control and monitor ADP system functions. After ADP system has been operated, the appropriate control module monitors position of seat and steering column using input from seat and steering column sensors. If control module detects that seat movement has occurred forward or backward greater than .240" (6 mm) within 2.5 seconds when ignition switch is in RUN position, ADP system will be set in fail-safe mode. Fail-safe mode is also set when seat reclines or steering column tilts greater than one degree within 2.5 seconds when ignition switch is in RUN position. Fail-safe mode is canceled when gear selector lever is moved back to "P" position, or when ADP system is diagnosed using Nissan CONSULT scan tool.
Note. If battery or driver's seat control unit (LCU 05) are disconnected, initialization procedure MUST be performed before memory button can be programmed. See INITIALIZATION.
Ensure gear selector lever is in "P" position. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Manually adjust driver's seat and steering column to the desired position. Push SET button on driver's door, and within 5 seconds, press button "1" or "2". Indicator light on pressed switch will illuminate for about 5 seconds, indicating successful memory storage.
INITIALIZATION
The ADP system must be initialized and programmed any time a battery cable has been disconnected or when ADP system fuse has blown. Without initialization, the ADP system will not function. To initialize, perform procedure "A" or "B".
Procedure "A"
Insert key into ignition switch. Leave ignition switch in LOCK position. Open, close, then open driver's door. After initialization, reprogram ADP memory. See MEMORY BUTTONS .
Procedure "B"
Drive vehicle at greater than 19 MPH. After initialization, reprogram ADP memory. See MEMORY BUTTONS .
All Seat System Functions Are Inoperative
If all seat functions are inoperative during both manual and automatic operations, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 1: POWER SUPPLY & GROUND CIRCUIT CHECK FOR DRIVER'S SEAT CONTROL UNIT (LCU 05) under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 2)
Seat Sliding Function Is Inoperative
If sliding function is inoperative during both manual and automatic operations, perform the following procedures in order listed.
- Perform self-diagnostics. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Test sliding motor. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 11: SLIDING MOTOR CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 12)
Seat Reclining Function Is Inoperative
If reclining function is inoperative during both manual and automatic operations, perform the following procedures in order listed.

- Test reclining motor. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 12: RECLINING MOTOR CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 13)
Seat Lifting (Front) Function Is Inoperative
If front lifting function is inoperative during both manual and automatic operations, perform the following procedures in order listed.

- Test front lifting motor. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 13: LIFTING MOTOR CHECK (FRONT) under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 14)
- Test limit switch. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 15: LIFTING LIMIT SWITCH CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 16)
Seat Lifting (Rear) Function Is Inoperative
If rear lifting function is inoperative during both manual and automatic operations, perform the following procedures in order listed.

- Test rear lifting motor. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 14: LIFTING MOTOR CHECK (REAR) under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 15)
- Test limit switch. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 15: LIFTING LIMIT SWITCH CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 16)
All Steering Column Functions Are Inoperative
If all steering system functions are inoperative during both manual and automatic operations, perform the following procedures in order listed.

- Test tilt/telescopic motor power supply and ground circuits. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 2: POWER SUPPLY & GROUND CIRCUIT CHECK FOR TILT/TELESCOPIC MOTOR under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 3)
- Test tilt sensor. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 3: TILT SENSOR CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 4)
- Test telescopic sensor. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 4: TELESCOPIC SENSOR CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 5)
Steering Column Tilt Function is Inoperative
If steering column tilt function is inoperative during both manual and automatic operations, perform the following procedures in order listed.

Steering Column Telescopic Function is Inoperative
If steering column telescopic function is inoperative during both manual and automatic operations, perform the following procedures in order listed.

All Automatic Functions & All Or Some Manual Functions Inoperative
If all functions are inoperative during automatic operation and some or all functions are inoperative during manual operation during both manual and automatic operations, perform the following procedures in order listed.

- Test key, detention, door switch and vehicle speed sensor. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 19: KEY, DETENTION, DOOR SWITCH & VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 20)and (Scheme 21).
Seat Sliding Function Inoperative
If sliding seat function is inoperative during automatic operation only, perform the following procedures in order listed.

If reclining seat function is inoperative during automatic operation only, perform the following procedures in order listed.

Seat Lifting (Front) Function Inoperative
If front lifting function is inoperative during automatic operation only, perform the following procedures in order listed.

- Test front lifting sensor. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 7: LIFTING SENSOR CHECK (FRONT) under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 8)
Seat Lifting (Rear) Function Inoperative
If rear lifting function is inoperative during automatic operation only, perform the following procedures in order listed.

- Test front lifting sensor. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 8: LIFTING SENSOR CHECK (REAR) under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 9)
Some Steering Column Functions Are Inoperative
If some steering system functions are inoperative during automatic operation only, fault may be caused by tilt/telescopic mechanical failure. Repair as necessary.
All Automatic Functions Inoperative
If all automatic system functions are inoperative, perform the following procedures in order listed.
- Perform self-diagnostics. See «SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM»(ref-96726-S27025746752001092800000).
- Test steering column tilt sensor. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 3: TILT SENSOR CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 4)
- Test steering column telescopic sensor. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 4: TELESCOPIC SENSOR CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 5)
- Test cancel switch. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 18: CANCEL SWITCH CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 19)
- Test key, detention, door switch and vehicle speed sensor. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 19: KEY, DETENTION, DOOR SWITCH & VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 20)and (Scheme 21).
If Only Memory Storage Function Is Inoperative
If only memory storage function is inoperative, perform the following procedures in order listed.
- Test key, detention, door switch and vehicle speed sensor. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 19: KEY, DETENTION, DOOR SWITCH & VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 20)and (Scheme 21).
- Test memory switch. Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 20: SEAT MEMORY SWITCH CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 22)
Memorized Position Set (Procedure "B"), Automatic Exiting & Automatic Set Return Are Inoperative
If memorized position set (procedure "B"), automatic exiting and automatic set return are inoperative, perform initialization. See INITIALIZATION under PROGRAMMING.
Seat Sliding, Reclining And/Or Lifting Functions Inoperative
If sliding, reclining and/or lifting functions are inoperative during manual operation only, perform the following procedures in order listed.
- Perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 17: POWER SEAT SWITCH CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 18)
- Perform WAKE-UP DIAGNOSIS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in appropriate MULTIPLEX CONTROL SYSTEMS article.
Lumbar Support Function Inoperative
If lumbar support function is inoperative during manual operation only, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 22: LUMBAR SUPPORT CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 24)
Steering Column Tilt And/Or Telescopic Functions Inoperative
If steering column tilt and/or telescopic functions are inoperative during manual operation only, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 16: TILT/TELESCOPIC SWITCH CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 17)
AUTOMATIC DRIVE POSITION CANCEL SWITCH INOPERATIVE
If automatic operation cannot be canceled, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 18: CANCEL SWITCH TEST under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 19)
MEMORY LIGHTS INOPERATIVE
Note. Ensure automatic drive position cancel switch is operational before trouble shooting memory lights.
If memory lights are inoperative, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE NO. 21: MEMORY INDICATOR CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. (Scheme 23)
Without Nissan CONSULT San Tool
To clear codes, turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove fuse No. 14 (7.5-amp) located instrument panel fuse box. Install fuse and retrieved all codes to ensure procedure was successful.
SYSTEM TESTS
