TRANSAXLE APPLICATIONS

Note. For proper ATF type and checking procedures, see appropriate AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SERVICING article.

  1. Remove drain plug, and drain transaxle fluid into appropriate container. Remove air cleaner assembly. Disconnect fluid cooler hoses on top of transaxle. Plug all fittings and lines to prevent dust or foreign matter from entering.
  2. Remove control and speedometer cables. Disconnect all electrical connectors from transaxle. Remove top transaxle-to-engine mounting bolts "A". (Scheme 6) Attach an engine support fixture to engine hooks, and keep just enough so that there is no pressure on insulators. Remove transaxle mounting bracket. Ensure transaxle is in neutral.
  3. Remove centermember and roll stopper mounting bolts. Remove lower arm ball joint and drive shaft. Remove transaxle stay and bell housing cover. Remove 3 special bolts connecting converter to drive plate, by turning engine crankshaft to appropriate position for removal. Support transaxle with transmission jack. Remove lower transaxle-to-engine mounting bolts. Remove transaxle from vehicle.
  1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Before installing transaxle to engine, ensure torque converter is properly aligned with transaxle pump drive.
  2. Install transaxle-to-engine mounting bolts into correct locations. (Scheme 6) Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-129034-S12633805252001111000000).
  3. Refill transaxle fluid to correct level on dipstick. Adjust control cable. Check neutral safety switch adjustment. Recheck fluid level with transaxle at normal operating temperature. See appropriate AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SERVICING article.
