Minor Adjustment

Raise and support rear of vehicle. Tighten adjusting nut located next to parking brake pedal until parking brakes drag slightly when rear wheels are turned. (Scheme 5) Back off adjusting nut in half-turn increments, and check for proper adjustment (4-6 clicks) at a pedal force of 66 lbs. (294 N).

Scheme 5: Minor Adjustment

Major Adjustment

Note. To be done when replacing brake shoes and after lining surface break-in.

Raise and support rear of vehicle. Release parking brake, and back off adjusting nut. (Scheme 5) Remove access plug. Turn up ratchet teeth or adjuster assembly with a flat blade screwdriver until shoes lock against drum. Then back off 10 clicks, and install access plug. Do minor adjustment procedure. See MINOR ADJUSTMENT. Perform the parking brake shoe break-in. See PARKING BRAKE SHOE LINING BREAK-IN under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
