- Reset the ECM with the HDS (see «ECM RESET»(ref-219288-S30980336842006021300000) ).
- Start the engine.
- Turn on the headlights.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P1297 indicated? YES - Go to step 5. NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ELD and the ECM.
- Turn the ignition switch and headlights OFF.
- Disconnect the ELD 3P connector.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Measure voltage between ELD 3P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground. Is there about 5 V? YES - Replace the under-hood fuse/relay box. NO - Go to step 9.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait for 10 seconds.
- Disconnect ECM connector A (32P).
- Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal A30 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Repair short in the wire between the ECM (A30) and the ELD. NO - Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM; 2000-2001 M/T models (see «HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THE ECM FOR TESTING PURPOSES (2000-2001 M/T MODELS)»(ref-219288-S30600414382006021300000) ), 2002-2006 M/T models and CVT model (see «ECM UPDATING AND SUBSTITUTION FOR TESTING-2002-2006 M/T MODELS AND CVT MODEL»(ref-219288-S14477746672006021300000) ), then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM (see «ECM REPLACEMENT»(ref-219289-S04050852982006021300000) ).
