VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT

Hydraulic lifters are used, no valve adjustments are required. Exhaust rocker arm adjusting screw is only adjusted during installation of exhaust rocker arm assembly.

TIMING BELT ADJUSTMENT

  1. Remove timing belt upper covers. Check for excessive wear at trailing edge of timing belt teeth. Rotate crankshaft clockwise to inspect belt. Replace timing belt if damaged, worn, or oil or coolant soaked.
  2. Set No. 1 piston to Top Dead Center (TDC). Rotate crankshaft clockwise 5-6 turns to set timing belt. Continue to rotate crankshaft until No. 1 piston is at TDC. White TDC mark on crankshaft pulley should align with pointer on timing cover. Loosen adjusting bolt located above crankshaft pulley 180 degrees, then retighten adjusting bolt. (Scheme 33) Tighten adjusting bolt to 31 ft. lbs. (42 N.m).
