Removal & Installation
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel. Compress caliper piston with large "C" clamp. Remove caliper guide pin bolts. Hold inner disc pad while removing caliper from knuckle. Support caliper using wire. Remove inner and outer disc pad, pad clips and springs. see scheme 7
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Coat slide bushings with silicone grease. Tighten caliper guide pin bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-46476-S34261087662001011500000) table.
Removal
- Raise and support vehicle on safety stands, allowing suspension to hang freely. Remove wheel.
- Unstake drive axle nut. Depress brake pedal to lock brake disc. Remove and discard drive axle nut. Remove disc brake rotor bolts.
- Remove caliper bolts. Remove caliper and wire aside. Remove hub with slide hammer and Adapter (J-34866). Remove brake rotor.
Scheme 1
- Install brake rotor disc on wheel hub. Tighten rotor bolts finger tight. Ensure wheel hub spacer is installed correctly. (Scheme 1) Place hub and disc brake rotor into wheel bearings.
- Using a hammer and Hub Driver (J-34856), or block of wood that contacts center of hub, drive hub in knuckle evenly.
- To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Use NEW drive axle nut during assembly and stake in place. Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-46476-S34261087662001011500000) table.
Remove electrical connector from reservoir cap (if equipped). Disconnect brake lines from master cylinder. Cap brake lines and plug master cylinder ports to prevent fluid spillage and contamination. Remove nuts and washers attaching master cylinder to power brake unit. Remove master cylinder.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table. Fill master cylinder reservoir. Bleed brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM . Check and adjust brake pedal height if necessary. See BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT under ADJUSTMENTS .
- Remove master cylinder from vacuum booster. Disconnect vacuum booster push rod clevis from brake pedal arm. Disconnect vacuum hose from vacuum booster.
- Remove vacuum booster attaching nuts. Remove vacuum booster unit. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten nuts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-46476-S34261087662001011500000) table.
- Release parking brake. Remove parking brake cover. Loosen parking brake cable lock nut. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel. Remove brake drum-to-axle nuts. Remove brake drum using Slide Hammer (J-2619-01) and Adapter (J-34866).
- Pull drum from axle flange. Remove return springs and hold-down clips. Disconnect parking brake cable. Remove brake shoes. (Scheme 2) To install, reverse removal procedure. Adjust rear brakes. See REAR BRAKE SHOES under «ADJUSTMENTS»(ref-46476-S32344346212001011500000).
