Interior Lighting System Ford Transit Connect I рестайлинг

Interior/illumination Lights 19 illustrations ~4334 words

The interior lighting system consists of the following

  1. Courtesy lamp relay
  2. Door ajar switches
  3. Interior lamp(s)
  4. Central Junction Box (CJB)
  5. Generic Electronic Module (GEM)

The interior lighting system consists of 2 subsystems

  1. Courtesy lamps
  2. Demand lamps

Courtesy Lamps

The courtesy lamps are controlled by the GEM . The courtesy lamp subsystem consists of the courtesy lamp relay, GEM , door ajar switches and the interior lamps. The GEM turns on the courtesy lamps when it detects a door is opened.

Demand Lamps

The demand lamps subsystem consists of the map lamps, located within the front interior lamp. The demand lamps are controlled by switches located on the front interior lamp and the battery saver function in the GEM .

Illuminated Entry

Note. The front interior lamp control switch must be set to the DOOR position for the illuminated entry feature to operate.

The illuminated entry feature provides illumination of the interior lamps when approaching the vehicle for entry.

The illuminated entry feature turns on the interior lamps when the ignition is OFF and an UNLOCK request is received from the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. The illuminated entry feature turns off the lamps if

  1. the ignition is turned out of the OFF position
  2. an RKE lock command is received
  3. 25 seconds have elapsed since the illuminated entry was activated

Illuminated Exit

Note. The front interior lamp control switch must not set to the DOOR position for the illuminated exit feature to operate.

The illuminated exit feature provides temporary illumination of the interior lamps as a convenience during exit.

The illuminated exit feature turns on the interior lamps for 25 seconds when all doors are closed and the ignition is turned from RUN or ACC to OFF. The illuminated exit feature is turned off when any door is opened, the key is reinserted into the ignition, or 25 seconds has elapsed. Once a door is opened, the courtesy lighting feature assumes control of the lamps.

Battery Saver

The battery saver is internal to the GEM and provides automatic shut-off of the interiors lamps after a time-out period in order to save battery voltage. A timer in the GEM is started when the ignition is turned to the OFF position. There are 2 timers, one for the courtesy lamps and one for the demand lamps. While the battery saver has voltage disabled, if the ignition is turned to any position other than OFF or any door becomes ajar, the battery saver restores voltage and starts the timer again.

The battery saver turns off the courtesy lamps after 10 minutes of inactivity with a door ajar and the front interior lamp control switch in the DOOR position.

The battery saver turns off the demand lamps after 30 minutes of inactivity and the front interior lamp control switch is in the ON position.

Principles of Operation

When the ignition is in ACC on RUN, or before the battery saver feature times out, the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) supplies voltage to the front interior lamp. The GEM controls the courtesy lamp relay, and when energized supplies ground, activating the courtesy lamps (the front interior lamp control switch must be in DOOR position). The front interior lamp has a dedicated ground circuit for the demand lamps. When the front interior lamp control switch is in the ON position, the switch closes to ground activating the demand lamps.

Both of the rear interior lamps receive voltage from the GEM , and are supplied a controlled ground from the front interior lamp. The rear lamps illuminate at the same time as the front interior lamp.

Pinpoint Test E: The Battery Saver Does Not Deactivate After Time-out

Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article, Interior Lamps for schematic and connector information.

The Generic Electronic Module (GEM) provides a battery saver function. The battery saver function provides automatic shutoff of the interior lamps after 30 minutes has elapsed in order to save battery power.

  1. DTC B1315 (Battery Saver Relay Coil Circuit Short To Battery) - a continuous DTC that sets when the GEM detects a short to voltage from the battery saver output circuit.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following

  1. Wiring, terminals or connectors
  2. GEM
  1. E1 CHECK THE BATTERY SAVER OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Ignition OFF. Disconnect: GEM C201d. Ignition ON. Place the front interior lamp control switch in the ON position. Do the interior lamps illuminate? Yes: REPAIR the battery saver output circuit for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation. No: Go to E2 .
  2. E2 CHECK FOR CORRECT GEM OPERATION Disconnect all the GEM connectors. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect all the GEM connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes: INSTALL a new GEM . REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULE»(/ford/transit-connect/i-2009-2013/remont/communication-devices/#multifunction-electronic-module) article. TEST the system for normal operation.
