Torque Specifications

The electronic ignition (EI) system for the 3.0L Duratec engine consists of the following components

  1. Ignition-coil-on plug
  2. Spark plug
  3. Crankshaft position (CKP) sensor
  4. Camshaft position (CMP) sensor

The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor

  1. Is a variable reluctance sensor.
  2. Is mounted in the front cover.
  3. Is triggered by a 36-minus-1 tooth trigger wheel located behind the front cover.
  4. Provides base timing and crankshaft speed (RPM) to the powertrain control module (PCM).

The camshaft position (CMP) sensor

  1. Is a variable reluctance sensor.
  2. Is mounted in the front cover.
  3. Is triggered by the high point mark on the LH exhaust camshaft.
  4. Provides camshaft rotational location information to the powertrain control module (PCM).

Refer to the INTRODUCTION - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE for diagnosis and testing of the electronic ignition (EI) system.
