Removal and Installation

  1. Remove the door trim panel. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(ref-233716) .
  2. Remove the window control switch. Disconnect the window control switch electrical connectors. Release the 6 window control switch bezel tabs.
  3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Removal

WARNINGTo prevent glass splinters from entering the eyes or cutting the hands, wear safety glasses and heavy gloves when cutting the glass from the vehicle.

  1. Remove the high mounted stoplamp. For additional information, refer to «EXTERIOR LIGHTING»(ref-233726) .
  2. Disconnect the LH and RH rear window defroster grid electrical connectors.
  3. Lower the headliner near the back window glass and support it with a suitable support.
  4. Using a soft brush or vacuum, remove any dirt or foreign material from the pinch weld.
  5. Using the special tool, place the flat side of the knife against the back window glass. Start at the top center and work out and down the pillars to the lower corners.
  6. Install the special tool into the top of the back window glass and inflate. Cut from corner to corner along the bottom of back window glass.
  7. Remove the back window glass.
  8. Using a soft brush or vacuum, remove any dirt or foreign material from the pinch weld.

Installation

CAUTIONWhen installing urethane-installed glass parts, the vehicle must not be driven until the urethane has cured. Adequate cure time is specified on the drive away chart for each urethane product as the temperature and humidity vary. Inadequate or incorrect curing can adversely affect the retention of the back window glass.

Note. On Taurus vehicles only, allow for a 5mm gap between roof, body sides and the back window glass.

  1. Dry fit the back window glass to the existing urethane adhesive on the body pinch weld. Align the glass in the opening for a uniform fit.
  2. Use a non-permanent pencil to make alignment marks to aid in the installation alignment of the back window glass.
  3. Remove the back window glass.
  4. Trim the urethane adhesive on the pinch weld. The urethane adhesive must be smooth and free of cuts and contamination after trimming. Avoid touching the urethane adhesive surface after preparation.
  5. Apply urethane metal primer to any exposed or damaged metal on the pinch weld.
  6. If installing the original back window glass, remove the excess urethane adhesive.
  7. Clean the back window glass with a non-alcohol based window cleaner.
  8. If installing a new back window glass, and if using a 2-part prep and primer, apply urethane glass prep twice to the area to be urethaned.
  9. If installing a new back window glass, apply urethane glass primer to the area where urethane will contact the glass. Allow 5 minutes to dry.
  10. Cut the urethane adhesive applicator tip to specification.
  11. Apply urethane adhesive on top of the existing urethane adhesive bead on the pinch weld. Make sure that all gaps in the urethane adhesive are smoothed into one continuous bead starting and ending at the bottom of the back window glass near the center.
  12. Install the back window glass on the pinch weld. Align the back window glass to the body using the alignment marks.
  13. Check the back window glass for air or water leaks through the urethane adhesive seal.
  14. Install the headliner.
  15. Connect the LH and RH rear window defroster connectors.
  16. Install the high mounted stoplamp. For additional information, refer to «EXTERIOR LIGHTING»(ref-233726) .
  1. Remove the front door trim panel. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(ref-233716) .
  2. Remove the watershield.
  3. Remove the interior weatherstrip.
  4. Remove the 2 rivets retaining the front door window glass to the front door window regulator assembly.
  5. Tilt the front door window glass forward and remove the glass.
  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Remove the quarter trim panels. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(ref-233716) .
  2. Remove the rear quarter window glass nuts.
  3. Using a soft brush or vacuum, remove any dirt or foreign material from the pinch weld.
  4. Using the special tool, place the flat side of the knife against the quarter glass window. Start at the top and work towards the corners cutting around the window studs.
  5. Remove the rear quarter window glass.
  6. Using a soft brush or vacuum, remove any dirt or foreign material from the pinch weld.
CAUTIONWhen installing urethane-installed glass parts, the vehicle must not be driven until the urethane adhesive has cured. Adequate cure time is specified on the drive away chart for each urethane product as temperatures and humidity vary. Inadequate or incorrect curing can adversely affect the retention of the quarter window glass.

  1. Trim the remaining urethane adhesive. The urethane adhesive must be smooth and free of cuts and contamination after trimming. Avoid touching the urethane adhesive after preparation.
  2. Apply urethane metal primer to any exposed or damaged metal on the pinch weld.
  3. If reinstalling the original rear quarter window glass, remove the excess urethane adhesive.
  4. Clean the rear quarter window glass with a non-alcohol based window cleaner.
  5. If installing a new rear quarter window glass, and if using the 2-part prep and primer, apply urethane glass prep twice around the glass surface to be urethaned.
  6. If installing a new rear quarter window glass, apply urethane glass primer where the urethane will contact the glass. Allow 5 minutes to dry.
  7. Cut urethane adhesive applicator tip to specification.
  8. Apply urethane adhesive on top of the existing urethane adhesive bead on the pinch weld. Make sure that all gaps in the urethane adhesive are smoothed into one continuous bead starting and ending at the bottom of the rear quarter window glass near the center.
  9. Position the rear quarter window glass to the flange, and press retaining tabs into the flange to engage.
  10. Install the rear quarter window glass nuts.
  11. Check the rear quarter window glass installation for air or water leaks through the urethane adhesive seal.
  12. Install the quarter trim panels. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(ref-233716) .

  1. Close the window.
  2. Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-233724) .
  3. Remove the door trim panel. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(ref-233716) .
  4. If equipped, remove the radio speaker.
  5. Position the watershield aside.
  6. Disconnect the door window regulator motor electrical connector.
  7. Remove the bolts and the door window regulator motor.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Remove the cowl grille. For additional information, refer to «FRONT END BODY PANELS»(ref-233729) .
  2. Remove the interior rear view mirror. For additional information, refer to «REAR VIEW MIRRORS»(ref-233768) .
  3. Position the LH and RH front door weatherstrips aside.
  4. Remove the LH and RH windshield side garnish mouldings.
  5. Remove the 8 screws, the LH and RH sun visors and the 2 sun visor clips.
  6. If equipped, remove the dome lamp assembly. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR LIGHTING»(ref-233755) .
  7. Partially lower the headliner near the windshield opening and block with suitable material.
  8. Using a soft brush or vacuum, remove any dirt or foreign material from the pinch weld.
  9. Using the special tool, place the flat side of the knife against the windshield glass. Start at the top center of the windshield glass and work out and down the pillars to the lower corners.
  10. Install the special tool into the top of the windshield glass and inflate. Cut the urethane adhesive from corner to corner along the bottom of the windshield glass.
  11. Remove the windshield glass.
  12. Using a soft brush or vacuum, remove any dirt or foreign material from the pinch weld.
CAUTIONWhen installing urethane-installed glass parts, the vehicle must not be driven until the urethane has cured. Inadequate or incorrect curing can adversely affect the retention of the windshield.
  1. Dry fit the windshield glass to the existing urethane adhesive bead on the body pinch weld. Align the windshield glass in the opening for a uniform fit.
  2. Use a non-permanent pencil to make alignment marks on the windshield glass at the setting blocks and the body to aid in the installation alignment of the windshield glass.
  3. Remove the windshield glass.
  4. Trim the remaining urethane adhesive on the pinch weld. The urethane adhesive must be smooth and free of cuts and contamination after trimming. Avoid touching the urethane surface after preparation.
  5. Apply urethane metal primer to minor scratches or exposed metal on the pinch weld caused during removal. Do not apply primer to the existing urethane adhesive.
  6. If installing the original windshield glass, remove the excess urethane adhesive.
  7. Clean the inside of the windshield glass surface with a non-alcohol based glass cleaner.
  8. If installing a new windshield glass, and if using the 2-part prep and primer, apply urethane glass prep to the area to be urethaned.
  9. If installing a new windshield glass, apply urethane glass primer to the area where urethane will contact glass. Allow 5 to 7 minutes to dry.
  10. Cut the urethane adhesive applicator tip to specification.
  11. Apply urethane adhesive on top of the existing trimmed urethane adhesive bead on the pinch weld. Make sure that all gaps in the urethane adhesive are smoothed into one continuous bead starting and ending at the bottom of the windshield near the center.
  12. Install the windshield glass on the vehicle aligning it with the markings made previously.
  13. Check the windshield glass installation for air or water leaks through the urethane adhesive seal.
  14. Position the headliner.
  15. If equipped, install the dome lamp assembly. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR LIGHTING»(ref-233755) .
  16. Install the 2 sun visor clips, the LH and RH sun visors, and the 8 screws.
  17. Install the RH and LH windshield side garnish mouldings.
  18. Install the LH and RH front door weatherstrips.
  19. Install the interior rear view mirror. For additional information, refer to «REAR VIEW MIRRORS»(ref-233768) .
  20. Install the cowl grille. For additional information, refer to «FRONT END BODY PANELS»(ref-233729) .
