- Remove the rocker arms. For additional information, refer to «ROCKER ARM»(ref-233691-S02596924522006052600000) .
- Rotate the crankshaft until the piston for the valve being worked on is at the top of its stroke with both the intake valve and the exhaust valve closed.
- Hold the valve in the cylinder head. Remove the spark plug. For additional information, refer to «ENGINE IGNITION - 3.0L (2V)»(ref-233737) . Apply a minimum of 689 kPa (100 psi) of compressed air to the cylinder.
- Using the special tool, remove the valve spring retainer keys.
- Remove the valve spring retainer.
- Remove the valve spring.
- Remove the valve stem seal.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING & LIFTING»(ref-233684) .
- Remove the 2 bolts and the engine roll restrictor. To install tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
- Install the special tool to the LH cylinder head.
- Using the special tools, support the LH side of the engine.
- Remove the 3 bolts, the 9 screws and the front splash shield.
- Remove the LH engine support insulator-to-subframe nut. To install, tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).
- Remove the A/C compressor bolt and position the wiring retainer bracket aside.
- Using the special tools, raise the RH side of the engine.
- Remove the 2 bolts and the LH engine support insulator. To install, tighten to 62 Nm (46 lb-ft).
- Remove the 2 nuts, the bolt and position the ground wire and catalytic converter heat shield aside. To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
- Install the special tool to the RH cylinder head.
- Using the special tools, support the RH side of the engine.
- Remove the engine support insulator-to-subframe nut. To install, tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).
- Remove the engine support insulator shield nut. To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
- Remove the through bolt and RH engine support insulator. To install, tighten to 120 Nm (89 lb-ft).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING & LIFTING»(ref-233684) .
- Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to «FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION»(ref-233735) .
- Park the windshield wiper arms in the highest position on the windshield.
- Remove the battery. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-233724) .
- Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. For additional information, refer to «CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION»(ref-233738) .
- Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to «ENGINE COOLING»(ref-233700) .
- Remove the RH and LH halfshafts. For additional information, refer to «FRONT DRIVE HALFSHAFTS»(ref-233693) .
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to «INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING»(ref-233699) .
- Remove the 3 retaining clips (2 shown) and the RH cowl panel grille.
- Remove the clip on the RH cowl extension panel.
- Remove the 3 screws (2 shown) and the RH cowl extension panel.
- Remove the 3 nuts and position the steering column input shaft coupling boot aside.
- Remove the pinch bolt and slide the coupling off the steering gear input shaft.
- Remove the 2 retainers and the accelerator control splash shield.
- Disconnect the accelerator cable, speed control actuator cable and the throttle return spring from the throttle body.
- Remove the 2 bolts and position the accelerator cable bracket aside.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose and the evaporative emissions (EVAP) return tube.
- Remove the nut and disconnect the manual control lever cable.
- Disconnect the manual control lever cable from the bracket and position aside.
- Loosen the bolt and disconnect the 42-pin and transmission range (TR) sensor electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the nut and disconnect the ground wire.
- Disconnect the upper radiator hose and the heater hose.
- Disconnect the power steering return hose.
- Disconnect the generator electrical connectors and position the wire harness aside.
- Disconnect the A/C suction tube from the accumulator drier. For additional information, refer to «CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION»(ref-233738) .
- Disconnect the fuel tube spring lock coupling. For additional information, refer to «FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION»(ref-233735) .
- Disconnect the degas bottle hose.
- Remove the 2 bolts and the engine roll restrictor.
- Disconnect the heater hose.
- Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire terminals.
- Disconnect the evaporative emissions (EVAP) canister purge valve electrical connector.
- Remove the bolt and the ground wire terminal.
- Loosen the bolt and disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM) electrical connector.
- Remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the catalytic converter from the dual converter Y-pipe.
- Remove the 2 nuts and the muffler pipe clamp. Separate and remove the catalytic converter from the muffler pipe.
- Remove the nut and disconnect the A/C discharge tube.
- Remove the 4 bolts and the radiator support bracket.
- Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the radiator and degas bottle supply hose.
- Disconnect the transmission oil cooler hose.
- If equipped, disconnect the wire harness electrical connector.
- Disconnect the auxiliary oil cooler assembly. Disconnect the transmission oil cooler hose, if equipped. Disconnect the power steering return hose.
- Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil. To install, tighten to 13 Nm (10 lb-ft).
- Remove the starter motor electrical connector cover.
- Remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the starter motor electrical connectors.
- Remove the 2 bolts and the starter motor.
- Remove the bolt and the engine inspection cover.
- Remove the 4 torque converter nuts.
- Remove the nuts and disconnect the LH and RH stabilizer links from the stabilizer bar.
- Remove the cotter pins, nuts and separate the LH and RH tie-rod ends from the steering knuckles.
- Position the special tool.
- Remove the 4 front subframe-to-body bolts.
- Using the special tool, lower the powertrain and subframe assembly out of the vehicle.
- Remove the nut and detach the power steering pressure (PSP) tube bracket.
- Remove the nut and detach the PSP tube bracket.
- Disconnect the PSP tube from the power steering pump.
- Disconnect the spark plug wires.
- Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector.
- Remove the 3 bolts and the ignition coil.
- Disconnect the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor electrical connector and position the wire harness aside.
- Disconnect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the transaxle harness electrical connector and position the wire harness aside.
- Remove the 2 nuts and the heat shield.
- Install the special tool to the LH side of the engine.
- Install the special tool to the RH side of the engine.
- Using the special tools, support the engine.
- Remove the 2 RH engine support insulator bracket-to-transmission bolts.
- Remove the LH engine support insulator-to-subframe nut.
- Remove the heat shield nut.
- Remove the RH engine support insulator through bolt.
- Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and the dual converter Y-pipe.
- Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the coolant pump.
- Remove the 5 transmission-to-engine bolts and 1 stud bolt.
- Separate the engine from the transmission.
