  1. Remove the rocker arms. For additional information, refer to «ROCKER ARM»(ref-233691-S02596924522006052600000) .
  2. Rotate the crankshaft until the piston for the valve being worked on is at the top of its stroke with both the intake valve and the exhaust valve closed.
  3. Hold the valve in the cylinder head. Remove the spark plug. For additional information, refer to «ENGINE IGNITION - 3.0L (2V)»(ref-233737) . Apply a minimum of 689 kPa (100 psi) of compressed air to the cylinder.
  4. Using the special tool, remove the valve spring retainer keys.
  5. Remove the valve spring retainer.
  6. Remove the valve spring.
  7. Remove the valve stem seal.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING & LIFTING»(ref-233684) .
  2. Remove the 2 bolts and the engine roll restrictor. To install tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  3. Install the special tool to the LH cylinder head.
  4. Using the special tools, support the LH side of the engine.
  5. Remove the 3 bolts, the 9 screws and the front splash shield.
  6. Remove the LH engine support insulator-to-subframe nut. To install, tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).
  7. Remove the A/C compressor bolt and position the wiring retainer bracket aside.
  8. Using the special tools, raise the RH side of the engine.
  9. Remove the 2 bolts and the LH engine support insulator. To install, tighten to 62 Nm (46 lb-ft).
  10. Remove the 2 nuts, the bolt and position the ground wire and catalytic converter heat shield aside. To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
  11. Install the special tool to the RH cylinder head.
  12. Using the special tools, support the RH side of the engine.
  13. Remove the engine support insulator-to-subframe nut. To install, tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).
  14. Remove the engine support insulator shield nut. To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
  15. Remove the through bolt and RH engine support insulator. To install, tighten to 120 Nm (89 lb-ft).
  16. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING & LIFTING»(ref-233684) .
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to «FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION»(ref-233735) .
  3. Park the windshield wiper arms in the highest position on the windshield.
  4. Remove the battery. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-233724) .
  5. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. For additional information, refer to «CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION»(ref-233738) .
  6. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to «ENGINE COOLING»(ref-233700) .
  7. Remove the RH and LH halfshafts. For additional information, refer to «FRONT DRIVE HALFSHAFTS»(ref-233693) .
  8. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to «INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING»(ref-233699) .
  9. Remove the 3 retaining clips (2 shown) and the RH cowl panel grille.
  10. Remove the clip on the RH cowl extension panel.
  11. Remove the 3 screws (2 shown) and the RH cowl extension panel.
  12. Remove the 3 nuts and position the steering column input shaft coupling boot aside.
  13. Remove the pinch bolt and slide the coupling off the steering gear input shaft.
  14. Remove the 2 retainers and the accelerator control splash shield.
  15. Disconnect the accelerator cable, speed control actuator cable and the throttle return spring from the throttle body.
  16. Remove the 2 bolts and position the accelerator cable bracket aside.
  17. Disconnect the vacuum hose and the evaporative emissions (EVAP) return tube.
  18. Remove the nut and disconnect the manual control lever cable.
  19. Disconnect the manual control lever cable from the bracket and position aside.
  20. Loosen the bolt and disconnect the 42-pin and transmission range (TR) sensor electrical connectors.
  21. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.
  22. Remove the nut and disconnect the ground wire.
  23. Disconnect the upper radiator hose and the heater hose.
  24. Disconnect the power steering return hose.
  25. Disconnect the generator electrical connectors and position the wire harness aside.
  26. Disconnect the A/C suction tube from the accumulator drier. For additional information, refer to «CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION»(ref-233738) .
  27. Disconnect the fuel tube spring lock coupling. For additional information, refer to «FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION»(ref-233735) .
  28. Disconnect the degas bottle hose.
  29. Remove the 2 bolts and the engine roll restrictor.
  30. Disconnect the heater hose.
  31. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire terminals.
  32. Disconnect the evaporative emissions (EVAP) canister purge valve electrical connector.
  33. Remove the bolt and the ground wire terminal.
  34. Loosen the bolt and disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM) electrical connector.
  35. Remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the catalytic converter from the dual converter Y-pipe.
  36. Remove the 2 nuts and the muffler pipe clamp. Separate and remove the catalytic converter from the muffler pipe.
  37. Remove the nut and disconnect the A/C discharge tube.
  38. Remove the 4 bolts and the radiator support bracket.
  39. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the radiator and degas bottle supply hose.
  40. Disconnect the transmission oil cooler hose.
  41. If equipped, disconnect the wire harness electrical connector.
  42. Disconnect the auxiliary oil cooler assembly. Disconnect the transmission oil cooler hose, if equipped. Disconnect the power steering return hose.
  43. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil. To install, tighten to 13 Nm (10 lb-ft).
  44. Remove the starter motor electrical connector cover.
  45. Remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the starter motor electrical connectors.
  46. Remove the 2 bolts and the starter motor.
  47. Remove the bolt and the engine inspection cover.
  48. Remove the 4 torque converter nuts.
  49. Remove the nuts and disconnect the LH and RH stabilizer links from the stabilizer bar.
  50. Remove the cotter pins, nuts and separate the LH and RH tie-rod ends from the steering knuckles.
  51. Position the special tool.
  52. Remove the 4 front subframe-to-body bolts.
  53. Using the special tool, lower the powertrain and subframe assembly out of the vehicle.
  54. Remove the nut and detach the power steering pressure (PSP) tube bracket.
  55. Remove the nut and detach the PSP tube bracket.
  56. Disconnect the PSP tube from the power steering pump.
  57. Disconnect the spark plug wires.
  58. Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector.
  59. Remove the 3 bolts and the ignition coil.
  60. Disconnect the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor electrical connector and position the wire harness aside.
  61. Disconnect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor electrical connector.
  62. Disconnect the transaxle harness electrical connector and position the wire harness aside.
  63. Remove the 2 nuts and the heat shield.
  64. Install the special tool to the LH side of the engine.
  65. Install the special tool to the RH side of the engine.
  66. Using the special tools, support the engine.
  67. Remove the 2 RH engine support insulator bracket-to-transmission bolts.
  68. Remove the LH engine support insulator-to-subframe nut.
  69. Remove the heat shield nut.
  70. Remove the RH engine support insulator through bolt.
  71. Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.
  72. Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.
  73. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and the dual converter Y-pipe.
  74. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the coolant pump.
  75. Remove the 5 transmission-to-engine bolts and 1 stud bolt.
  76. Separate the engine from the transmission.
