  1. Disconnect the PCV tube-to-valve cover fitting quick connect coupling and position aside. For additional information, refer to «FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION»(ref-574171) . RH side
  2. For ignition coil-on-plugs on cylinders 3 and 4, disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-574143) .
  3. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube-to-valve cover fitting quick connect coupling and position aside. For additional information, refer to «FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION»(ref-574171) . Both sides
  4. Remove the ignition coil-on-plug cover.
  5. NOTE: Detach the engine appearance cover and lift to gain access to the ignition coil-on-plug electrical connectors. Disconnect the ignition coil-on-plug electrical connector.
  6. NOTE: When removing the ignition coil-on-plug, a slight twisting motion will break the seal and ease removal. Remove the bolt and the ignition coil-on-plug. To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
  7. Inspect the coil seals for rips, nicks or tears. Remove and discard any damaged coil seals. To install, slide the new coil seal onto the coil until it is fully seated at the top of the coil.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the inside of the ignition coil-on-plug boots before attaching to the spark plugs.

Note. Do not remove the spark plugs when the engine is hot or cold soaked. Spark plug thread or cylinder head damage can occur. Make sure the engine is warm (hand touch after cooling down) prior to spark plug removal.

  2. NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spark plugs, or damage may occur to the cylinder head or spark plug. NOTE: Use compressed air to remove any foreign material in the spark plug well before removing the spark plugs. Remove the spark plug. To install, tighten to 14 Nm (124 lb-in).
  3. Inspect the spark plug. For additional information, refer to «ENGINE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION»(ref-574124) .
  4. NOTE: The spark plug gap is not adjustable. Damage can occur to the ceramic or iridium center wire if the gap is adjusted. Replace the spark plug if the gap is out of specification. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
