Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.

In most circumstances the PCM sets a DTC to help guide with diagnostics. Refer to the DTC CHARTS before using the Symptom Chart. The Symptom column lists the vehicle condition. The Possible Sources column lists a detailed vehicle condition. The Action column lists the action to be performed to determine the cause of the condition. Each action lists the components that can cause the system and the individual components in that system. The components are listed in order of disassembly. Use the list of components and the required action to focus on disassembly inspections for the root cause of the concern.

PINPOINT TEST A: B1319:11

  1. A1 RETRIEVE AND RECORD ALL DTCS Using the diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all DTCs. Is DTC B1319:11 present? Yes : CLEAR the DTC. If the DTC returns, Go to A2 No : REFER to «SYMPTOM CHART»(ref-658859-S36676967932014092900000) .
  2. A2 CHECK THE BRAKE SHIFT INTERLOCK ACTUATOR POWER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Ignition OFF. Disconnect Floor Shifter C3245 . Disconnect BCM C2280C . Inspect for damaged or pushed-out terminals. Measure. Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-12 Ground Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : Go to A3 No : REPAIR the circuit.
  3. A3 CHECK THE BSIA POWER CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE Connect BCM C2280C . Ignition ON. Apply the brake pedal. Measure. Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-12 Ground Is voltage greater than 8.0 volts? Yes : INSTALL a new selector lever. Refer to: «SELECTOR LEVER ASSEMBLY»(ref-658859-S20381535992014092900000) . No : REPAIR the circuit.

PINPOINT TEST B: B1319:15

  1. B1 RETRIEVE AND RECORD ALL DTCS Using the diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all DTCs. Is DTC B1319:15 present? Yes : CLEAR the DTC . If the DTC returns, Go to B2 No : The issue may not be the BSIA system. REFER to «SYMPTOM CHART»(ref-658859-S36676967932014092900000) .
  2. B2 CHECK THE BRAKE SHIFT INTERLOCK ACTUATOR POWER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Disconnect Floor Shifter C3245 . Disconnect BCM C2280C . Inspect for damaged or pushed-out terminals. Measure. Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-12 C2280C-41 Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : Go to B3 No : REPAIR the circuit.
  3. B3 CHECK THE BRAKE SHIFT INTERLOCK ACTUATOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Measure. Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-8 Ground C3245-11 Ground Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : Go to B4 No : REPAIR the circuit.
  4. B4 CHECK THE BRAKE SHIFT INTERLOCK ACTUATOR POWER CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE Ignition ON. Measure. Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-12 Ground Is any voltage present? Yes : REPAIR the circuit. No : INSTALL a new selector lever assembly. Refer to: «SELECTOR LEVER ASSEMBLY»(ref-658859-S20381535992014092900000) .

PINPOINT TEST C: P0815, P0816

  1. C1 RETRIEVE AND RECORD ALL DTCS Using the diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Is DTC P0815 present? Yes : CLEAR the DTC . PERFORM the KOEO self-test. If DTC P0815 returns, Go to C2 No : CLEAR the DTC . PERFORM the KOEO self-test. If DTC P0816 returns, Go to C7
  2. C2 CHECK THE UPSHIFT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE Ignition OFF. Disconnect Floor Shifter C3245 . Inspect for damaged or pushed-out terminals. Ignition ON. Measure. Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-5 Ground Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : Go to C5 No : Go to C3
  3. C3 CHECK THE UPSHIFT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Ignition OFF. Disconnect PCM C1551B 1.6L GTDI. Disconnect PCM C1381B 2.0L GTDI. Disconnect PCM C175B 2.5L. Inspect for damaged or pushed-out terminals. Measure. For vehicles equipped with the 1.6L GTDI Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-5 C1551B-89 For vehicles equipped with the 2.0L GTDI Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-5 C1381B-89 For vehicles equipped with the 2.5L Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-5 C175B-23 Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : Go to C4 No : REPAIR the circuit.
  4. C4 CHECK THE UPSHIFT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Measure. Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-5 Ground Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : INSTALL a new PCM . Refer to: «POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)»(ref-658890-S20967577072014092900000) (1.6). Refer to: «POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)»(ref-658891-S17368005702014092900000) (2.0). Refer to: «POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)»(ref-658892-S20488257092014092900000) (2.5). Refer to: «TRANSMISSION STRATEGY DOWNLOAD»(ref-658852-S01664143192014092900000) (6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6F35). No : REPAIR the circuit.
  5. C5 CHECK THE SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Measure. Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-5 C3245-4 Is voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : Go to C6 No : REPAIR the circuit. If no open is found, INSTALL a new PCM. Refer to: «POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)»(ref-658890-S20967577072014092900000) (1.6). Refer to: «POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)»(ref-658891-S17368005702014092900000) (2.0). Refer to: «POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)»(ref-658892-S20488257092014092900000) (2.5). Refer to: «TRANSMISSION STRATEGY DOWNLOAD»(ref-658852-S01664143192014092900000) (6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6F35).
  6. C6 CHECK THE SELECTSHIFT™ SWITCH Disconnect the SelectShift™ connector in the selector lever assembly. Measure the component side resistance while cycling the SelectShift™ upshift switch. Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead Pin 5 (Component side) Pin 4 (Component side) Is the resistance less than 1.5 ohms when applied and greater than 10, 000 ohms when released? Yes : INSTALL a new selector lever. Refer to: «SELECTOR LEVER ASSEMBLY»(ref-658859-S20381535992014092900000) . No : INSTALL a new SelectShift™ switch. Refer to: «SELECTOR LEVER KNOB»(ref-658859-S31468817282014092900000) .
  7. C7 CHECK THE DOWNSHIFT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE Ignition OFF. Disconnect Floor Shifter C3245 . Inspect for damaged or pushed-out terminals. Ignition ON. Measure. Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-6 Ground Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : Go to C10 No : Go to C8
  8. C8 CHECK THE DOWNSHIFT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Ignition OFF. Disconnect PCM C1551B 1.6L GTDI. Disconnect PCM C1381B 2.0L GTDI. Disconnect PCM C175B 2.5L. Measure. For vehicles equipped with the 1.6L GTDI Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-6 C1551B-88 For vehicles equipped with the 2.0L GTDI Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-6 C1381B-88 For vehicles equipped with the 2.5L Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-6 C175B-24 Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : Go to C9 No : REPAIR the circuit.
  9. C9 CHECK THE DOWNSHIFT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Measure. Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-6 Ground Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : INSTALL a new PCM. Refer to: «POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)»(ref-658890-S20967577072014092900000) (1.6). Refer to: «POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)»(ref-658891-S17368005702014092900000) (2.0). Refer to: «POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)»(ref-658892-S20488257092014092900000) (2.5). Refer to: «TRANSMISSION STRATEGY DOWNLOAD»(ref-658852-S01664143192014092900000) (6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6F35). No : REPAIR the circuit.
  10. C10 CHECK THE SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Measure. Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C3245-6 C3245-4 Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : Go to C11 No : REPAIR the circuit. If no open is found, INSTALL a new PCM. Refer to: «POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)»(ref-658890-S20967577072014092900000) (1.6).   11. C11 CHECK THE SELECTSHIFT™ SWITCH Disconnect the SelectShift™ connector in the selector lever assembly. Measure the component side resistance while cycling the SelectShift™ downshift switch. Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead Pin 5 (Component side) Pin 4 (Component side) Is the resistance less than 1.5 ohms when applied and greater than 10, 000 ohms when released? Yes : INSTALL a new selector lever. Refer to: «SELECTOR LEVER ASSEMBLY»(ref-658859-S20381535992014092900000) . No : INSTALL a new SelectShift™ switch. Refer to: «SELECTOR LEVER KNOB»(ref-658859-S31468817282014092900000) .
