Selector Lever
| Selector Lever Positions | ||
|---|---|---|
| P | Park | The transaxle will be locked and the vehicle will be stationary in PARK. The engine will start. The selector lever can only be moved out of the PARK position if the ignition is turned to the ON position and the brake pedal is pressed. In an emergency (battery discharged), the selector lever can be unlocked manually. Refer to Brake Shift Interlock Override . |
| R | Reverse | Only will engage when the vehicle is stationary and the engine is idling. Vehicle will move in the rearward direction. |
| N | Neutral | The engine can be started - no power transfer to the driving wheels. |
| D | Gears 1 to 4 with Overdrive (O/D) | Position for normal driving. All 4 gears are shifted electronically. Vehicle will move in the forward direction. When the engine is stopped, this mode of operation is automatically enabled. |
| D | Gears 1 to 3 without O/D | Position for normal driving, but without 4th gear. Vehicle will move in the forward direction. |
| L | Low | The transaxle is either in 1st or 2nd gear. Vehicle will move in the forward direction. Used primarily for hilly terrain. |

Brake Shift Interlock Override
Note. If it is necessary to use the override procedure to move the selector lever out of the PARK position, it is possible that a fuse has blown and the brake lights are not operational. Before driving the vehicle, verify that the brake lights are working. This vehicle is equipped with a brake shift interlock feature that prevents the selector lever from being moved out of PARK when the ignition is in the ON or RUN position unless the brake pedal is depressed. If the selector lever cannot be moved out of the PARK position when the ignition is in the ON position and the brake pedal is depressed
- Apply the parking brake and remove the ignition key.
- Remove the access panel.
- Using an suitable tool, depress the brake shift interlock override mechanism on the selector lever, apply the brake, depress the button on the selector lever and move the selector lever into NEUTRAL.
- Start the vehicle.
- To install, reverse the procedure.
