Inspection And Verification

Verify the customer concern.
Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical damage. VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Electrical Battery junction box (BJB) fuse 7 (40A) Central junction box (CJB) fuse(s): 32 (15A) 63 (20A) Wiring harness Connector(s) Circuitry
If the cause is not visually evident, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle: check that the program card is correctly installed. check the connections to the vehicle. check the ignition switch position.
If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual.
Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with: SCP, ISO or CAN circuit fault; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-207799) . No response/not equipped for GEM, Go To «PINPOINT TEST A: NO COMMUNICATION WITH THE GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE (GEM)»(ref-207803-S27589986472005120100000) . System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out self-test diagnostics for the GEM.
If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the «GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE (GEM) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX»(ref-207803-S21116488592005120100000) to continue diagnostics.

Key in OFF position.
Disconnect: GEM C201c.
Key in ON position.
Measure the voltage between GEM C201 c pin 5, circuit 29-DK20 (OG/GN), harness side and ground and GEM C201 c pin 1, circuit 29-AA17 (OG/WH), harness side and ground.
Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes

GO to A2.

REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

A2 CHECK GEM CIRCUIT 31-DK20 (BK) FOR OPEN

Scheme 25

Key in OFF position.
Disconnect: GEM C201a.
Measure the resistance between GEM C201 a pin 5, circuit 31-DK20 (BK), harness side and ground.
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes

GO to A3.

REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

A3 CHECK GEM CIRCUIT 91-DK20 (BK/RD) FOR OPEN

Measure the resistance between GEM C201 d pin 1, circuit 91-DK20 (BK/RD), harness side and ground.
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes

REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK to continue communication diagnosis.

REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
