The interior lighting system consists of

The courtesy lamps subsystem consists of

- Courtesy lamp switch (integrated into the front interior lamp)

The courtesy lamps provide illumination to the vehicle interior and below the exterior mirrors when entering or exiting the vehicle or when requested using the courtesy lamp switch located on the interior lamp.
The demand lamps subsystem consists of
- Interior lamps (map lamps)
- Vanity mirror lamps
- Luggage compartment lamp
- BCM
The demand lamps provide illumination to specific areas within the vehicle when needed.
The BCM energizes the interior light relay to supply voltage to the demand lamps when the battery saver feature is not active.
The ambient lighting subsystem consists of
- Ambient lighting Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs)
- Ambient lighting module (integrated into the overhead console)
- Ambient lighting switches (integrated into the overhead console)
The ambient lighting provides aesthetically colored illumination to the center console storage bin and cup holders, the door map pockets, the door pull handles, the door release handles, and the front footwells for illuminated entry or when the ignition is in RUN with the parking lamps on. The ambient lighting is controlled using the buttons and knob on the overhead console.

Battery Saver
Note. Time-out is 10 seconds if the vehicle is in Factory mode or 0 seconds if the vehicle is in Transport mode.
The BCM provides automatic shut-off of the courtesy and demand lamps after a time-out period when the ignition is OFF. A timer in the BCM starts when
- the ignition transitions to OFF.
- any door or liftgate/luggage compartment lid becomes ajar.
- an UNLOCK button of the RKE transmitter is pressed.
- a door is unlocked using a key.
- the door lock switch is pressed.
When 10 minutes (30 minutes for demand lamps) have elapsed, the BCM automatically shuts off voltage to the lamps. The timer restarts (voltage is restored if the BCM is in battery saver mode) if
- the ignition transitions out of OFF.
- any door or liftgate/luggage compartment lid becomes ajar.
- the UNLOCK button of the RKE transmitter is pressed.
- a door is unlocked using a key.
- the door lock switch is pressed.
Courtesy Lamps
The BCM controls the courtesy lighting functions and timing by monitoring inputs from the following
- Door ajar switches
- Ignition state
- RKE system
For vehicles equipped with puddle lamps, the DDM and the PDM provide voltage to the left and right puddle lamps based on a messaged input from the BCM over this communication network.
The BCM monitors the ignition state and inputs from the RKE system to determine when to energize the interior light relay. When the interior light relay is energized, voltage is provided to the interior lamps. The BCM controls the ground side of the courtesy lamps for the illuminated entry and exit features.
The BCM monitors input from the RKE transmitter through the RFA module to determine when to activate/deactivate the illuminate entry and exit functions.
The interior courtesy lamps can also be activated from the courtesy lamp switch mounted on the front/driver interior lamp. The front interior lamp (vehicles without a roof opening panel) or the driver interior lamp (vehicles with a roof opening panel) controls the courtesy lamp function of the remaining interior lamp(s). When the courtesy lamp button is pressed on the front/driver interior lamp, the courtesy lamp function of all the lamps is turned on/off. If any door is open, the BCM command overrides the function of the front/driver courtesy lamp switch and activates the courtesy lamps.
Illuminated Entry and Exit
The illuminated entry and exit features provide temporary illumination of the parking lamps, the dimmable backlighting, the ambient backlighting and the courtesy lamps. Refer to the table for additional information.
Note. An arbitrator (software programming) within the BCM determines which actions take precedence over others (for example, an open door keeps the courtesy lamps on even when a command to lock the doors is received).

Theater Lighting
The theater lighting option ramps-up the courtesy lamps over 0.7 seconds when courtesy lamp is requested. The theater lighting feature ramps-down the courtesy lamps over 1.7 seconds when interior lighting deactivation is requested by any feature other than the panic alarm or battery saver.
Demand Lamps
When the BCM is in not in battery saver mode, the interior light relay is energized to provide voltage to the demand lamps.
Ambient Lighting
The ambient lighting subsystem consists of the ambient lighting switch, dimmer control and the ambient lighting module (all integrated into the overhead console), and the Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) located within the floor console, front door panels and under the instrument panel footwell areas. The ambient lighting is operational when the ignition is in any state other than OFF (the exception is when it is used in conjunction with the illuminated entry/exit features), the headlamps are on and the outside ambient light level is low. The ambient lighting switch cycles the Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) through 7 different color combinations. The brightness is changed using the dimmer control which allows the Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) to be turned off as well.
The right search mode control switch activates all ambient light areas and all dome lamps. The search mode control switch needs to be pressed again to deactivate the dome lamps and return to the previously selected ambient light color.
The ambient lighting control module controls the color and light intensity. The ambient lighting module receives information from the BCM through a LIN circuit for illuminated entry/exit functions. The ambient lighting module provides voltage to all of the Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). A secondary LIN circuit is routed from the ambient lighting module to all of the Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). Each LED changes color and intensity based on the input from the ambient lighting module.
As an additional function, the ambient lighting illuminates red on any open door.
Door Ajar Switch
The door ajar switches (ground switches) each receive a voltage signal from the BCM on independent circuits. When the door is closed, the door ajar switch is closed, routing the signal to ground. When the door is opened, the door ajar switch opens.
Ground is provided to the door ajar switches from the door modules.
Interior Lamp
All of the interior lamps receive voltage from the interior lamp relay (integrated into the BCM ) when the battery saver feature is not active. This is used by each interior lamp to power the LED within it.
The front interior lamp sends a ground signal to the rear lamp to activate it. The ground signal is removed to turn the lamps off.
A dedicated ground circuit is provided for map lamp functionality.

Make sure they seat and latch correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM . - H13 CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING LIGHT EMITTING DIODE (LED) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect all of the ambient lighting Light-emitting Diodes (LEDs). Measure: Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C912-16 Ground Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : INSTALL a new overhead console. REFER to: «OVERHEAD CONSOLE»(/ford/focus-st/iii-2012-2015/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-console-electric) (501-12 Instrument Panel and Console, Removal and Installation). No : REPAIR the circuit.
- H14 ISOLATE THE AMBIENT LIGHTING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODES (LEDS) Turn the parking lamps on. Disconnect and then connect the Light-emitting Diodes (LEDs) one at a time while observing the other Light-emitting Diodes (LEDs). Left front footwell Right front footwell Passenger door map pocket Passenger door release handle Driver door map pocket Driver door release handle Floor console cupholder Do the other ambient lighting Light-emitting Diodes (LEDs) illuminate when an individual LED is disconnected? Yes : INSTALL a new LED in question. No : GO to H15
- H15 CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING LOCAL INTERCONNECT NETWORK (LIN) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Ignition OFF. Disconnect all of the ambient lighting Light-emitting Diodes (LEDs). Ignition ON. Measure: Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C912-15 Ground Is any voltage present? Yes : REPAIR the circuit. No : GO to H16
- H16 CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING LOCAL INTERCONNECT NETWORK (LIN) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Ignition OFF. Measure: Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C912-15 Ground Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to H17 No : REPAIR the circuit.
- H17 CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING LOCAL INTERCONNECT NETWORK (LIN) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Measure: Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C912-15 C3349-2 Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? Yes : INSTALL a new overhead console. REFER to: «OVERHEAD CONSOLE»(/ford/focus-st/iii-2012-2015/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-console-electric) (501-12 Instrument Panel and Console, Removal and Installation). No : REPAIR the circuit.
- H18 CHECK FOR CORRECT BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) OPERATION Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors. Repair: corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins) damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM . REFER to: «BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)»(/ford/focus-st/iii-2012-2015/remont/communication-devices/#multifunction-electronic-modules-electric) (419-10 Multifunction Electronic Modules, Removal and Installation). No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. CLEAR the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

DTC FAULT TRIGGER CONDITIONS
- Inspect the bulbs and make sure they are OK.
- Inspect the exterior mirror for damage.
PINPOINT TEST I: A PUDDLE LAMP IS INOPERATIVE OR ALWAYS ON
- I1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE INTERIOR COURTESY LAMPS Ignition ON. Ignition OFF. Open and close a door. Observe the interior courtesy lamp operation for 30 seconds. Do the interior courtesy lamps operate correctly? Yes : If a puddle lamp is always on, GO to I2 If a puddle lamp is inoperative, GO to I3 No : REFER to the «INTERIOR LAMPS SYMPTOM CHART»(/ford/focus-st/iii-2012-2015/remont/interiorillumination-lights/#interior-lighting-electric__symptom-chart-interior-lighting) and diagnose the interior courtesy lamps.
- I2 CHECK THE PUDDLE LAMP POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Disconnect: DDM C501B (left puddle lamp). Disconnect: PDM C652B (right puddle lamp). Ignition ON. Does the puddle lamp continue to illuminate? Yes : REPAIR the circuit. No : INSTALL a new door module in question. REFER to: «DOOR MODULE»(/ford/focus-st/iii-2012-2015/remont/communication-devices/#multifunction-electronic-modules-electric) (419-10 Multifunction Electronic Modules, Removal and Installation).
- I3 CHECK THE MIRROR OPERATION Ignition ON. Using the exterior mirror control switch, operate the exterior power mirrors. Do the exterior power mirrors operate? Yes : GO to I4 No : REFER to: «REAR VIEW MIRRORS»(/ford/focus-st/iii-2012-2015/remont/mirrors/#rear-view-mirrors-electric) (501-09 Rear View Mirrors, Diagnosis and Testing).
- I4 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE PUDDLE LAMP Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Inoperative Exterior Mirror. Ignition ON. Open any door. Measure: LH Exterior Mirror Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C521-8 Ground RH Exterior Mirror Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C626-8 Ground Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? Yes : GO to I7 No : GO to I5
- I5 CHECK THE PUDDLE LAMP VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Ignition OFF. Disconnect: DDM C501B (left puddle lamp). Disconnect: PDM C652B (right puddle lamp). Measure: LH Exterior Mirror Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C521-8 Ground RH Exterior Mirror Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C626-8 Ground Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to I6 No : REPAIR the circuit.
- I6 CHECK THE PUDDLE LAMP VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Measure: LH Exterior Mirror Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C521-8 C501B-6 RH Exterior Mirror Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C626-8 C652B-6 Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? Yes : INSTALL a new door module in question. REFER to: «DOOR MODULE»(/ford/focus-st/iii-2012-2015/remont/communication-devices/#multifunction-electronic-modules-electric) (419-10 Multifunction Electronic Modules, Removal and Installation). No : REPAIR the circuit.
- I7 CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR GROUND CIRCUIT Measure: LH Exterior Mirror Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C521-8 C521-6 RH Exterior Mirror Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C626-8 C626-6 Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? Yes : INSTALL a new exterior mirror. REFER to: «EXTERIOR MIRROR»(/ford/focus-st/iii-2012-2015/remont/mirrors/#rear-view-mirrors-electric) (501-09 Rear View Mirrors, Removal and Installation). No : GO to I8
- I8 CHECK THE PUDDLE LAMP GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Ignition OFF. Disconnect: DDM C501B (left puddle lamp). Disconnect: PDM C652B (right puddle lamp). Measure: LH Exterior Mirror Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C521-6 C501B-18 RH Exterior Mirror Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C626-6 C652B-18 Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? Yes : INSTALL a new door module in question. No : REPAIR the circuit.
