Range Selection

This transmission has 5 range positions: P, R, N, D and L.

Scheme 78: Selector Lever - 6F35

Park

In the park position

  1. there is no power flow through the transmission.
  2. the parking pawl locks the final drive.
  3. the engine may be started.
  4. the ignition key may be removed.

Reverse

In the REVERSE position

  1. the vehicle may be operated in a rearward direction, at a reduced gear ratio.
  2. engine braking will occur.

Neutral

In the NEUTRAL position

  1. there is no power flow through the transmission.
  2. the output shaft is not held and is free to turn.
  3. the engine may be started.

Drive Position With Grade Assist

DRIVE is the normal position for most forward driving.

Drive provides

  1. automatic shifts -1st through 6th gears.
  2. apply and release of the TCC .
  3. maximum fuel economy during normal operation.

Manual L Position

In the L position

  1. the transmission provides maximum engine braking.
  2. the transmission downshifts to the lowest available gear for the current vehicle speed.

Manual L position allows for 1st gear when the vehicle reaches slower speeds.

Gear Availability

Manual Lever PositionTransmission Gear OperationDescription
D Grade Assist1±2±3±4±5-61st through 5th gears are available. Transmission shifts to the 5th gear if the TCS button is pressed when the transmission is in 6th gear. Transmission provides engine braking. Grade assist is activated.
L1-2-3-4-61st gear hold with engine braking. The transmission downshifts to 1st gear when L is selected above a calibrated speed under minimum to moderate accelerator pedal position.

Brake Shift Interlock Actuator

The brake shift interlock system consists of

  1. BSIA that is integral to the selector lever assembly.
  2. ignition switch.
  3. BPP switch.
  4. BCM .

Selector Lever Cable

The selector lever cable consists of

  1. a cable that connects the transmission manual control lever to the selector lever assembly.
  2. a cable grommet that is fastened to the floor pan.
  3. adjuster locking tab at the transmission manual control lever.

Selector Lever

The selector lever consists of

  1. Selector lever knob
  2. BSIA that is integral to the selector lever assembly.
  3. TCS that is integral to the selector lever knob.

Transmission Control Switch (TCS)

The TCS is a momentary contact switch intregal to the selector lever knob.

  1. Apply the parking brake.
  2. Pull the LH and RH floor console side trim panels outward to release the top 3 retaining clips separating the floor console side trim panels from the console upper finish panel.
  3. Position the latch trim panel aside.
  4. Remove the console upper finish panel screw.
  5. NOTE: The RH floor console side trim panel is removed for clarity. Unclip the console upper finish panel from the console. Start at the rear and work forward pulling upward to release the clips.
  6. If equipped, disconnect the hill descent control switch electrical connector.
  7. If equipped, disconnect the ambient lighting electrical connector.
  8. If equipped, unclip the ambient light bar.
  9. Move the selector lever to the full rearward position.
  10. Release the 5 tabs and detach the selector lever boot from the console upper finish panel.
  11. Disconnect the audio input jack electrical connector the power point electrical connector the USB connector and remove the console upper finish panel.
  12. Disconnect the selector lever knob electrical connector.
  13. NOTE: The selector lever boot is removed for clarity. Remove the 2 screws and the selector lever knob.
  14. Press the 2 tabs and slide the selector lever boot off the selector lever knob.

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. REFER to «JACKING AND LIFTING»(ref-517532-S17733021342012121200000) for lifting points.
  2. Remove the ACL assembly. REFER to «INTAKE AIR SYSTEM COMPONENTS - EXPLODED VIEW»(ref-517563-S09135048742012121200000)
  3. Disconnect the selector lever cable end from the manual control lever.
  4. Release the 2 tabs, remove the selector lever cable from the selector lever cable bracket.
  5. Remove the selector lever cable bracket pushpin.
  6. Position the drivers seat to the full rearward and downward position and fully recline the seat back.
  7. Remove the LH floor console side trim panel.
  8. NOTE: The console upper finish panel is removed for clarity. Disconnect the selector lever cable from the selector lever.
  9. Remove the selector lever cable from the selector lever cable bracket and discard the selector lever cable retaining clip. Release the 2 selector lever cable retaining clip tabs and pull the selector lever outward.
  10. Position the carpet aside.
  11. Release the selector lever cable from the pin-type retainer.
  12. Remove the 2 nuts from the grommet, route the selector lever cable from the engine compartment through the floor and remove the selector lever cable from the passenger compartment.

  1. Install the selector lever cable, position the grommet in place and install the 2 nuts. Tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
  2. Attach the selector lever cable to the pin-type retainer.
  3. Position the carpet back.
  4. Install the new plastic selector lever cable retaining clip on the selector lever cable and install the selector lever cable into the selector lever cable bracket.
  5. NOTE: The console upper finish panel is removed for clarity. Connect the selector lever cable to the selector lever.
  6. Install the LH floor console side trim panel.
  7. Position the drivers seat back to the original position.
  8. Place the selector lever in DRIVE.
  9. Install the selector lever cable bracket pushpin.
  10. NOTE: To prevent selector lever cable damage, do not apply force to the selector lever cable between the manual control lever and the selector lever cable bracket. NOTE: When installing the selector lever cable, make sure that the selector lever cable locking tabs are locked in place. Press the selector lever cable into the selector lever cable bracket and listen for the selector lever cable retainer to click in place. Pull back on the selector lever cable to make sure that the selector lever is locked into the selector lever cable bracket. Install the selector lever cable in the selector lever cable bracket.
  11. Place the manual control lever in DRIVE. Rotate the manual control lever clockwise until it stops. Rotate the manual control lever counterclockwise 3 detent stops.
  12. Release the selector lever cable adjuster lock. Carefully pry outward the adjuster lock tabs. While holding the adjuster lock tabs outward, slide the lock to unlock the selector lever cable.
  13. NOTE: To prevent selector lever cable damage, do not apply force to the selector lever cable between the manual control lever and the selector lever cable bracket. NOTE: Make sure that the selector lever cable end is correctly installed onto the manual control lever ball stud by pulling back on the selector lever cable end. With the adjuster locking tab released, connect the selector lever cable end to the manual control lever.
  14. NOTE: After locking the adjuster, pull back on the adjuster to make sure it is securely installed. Slide the release tab back to lock the adjuster.
  15. Install the ACL assembly. REFER to «INTAKE AIR SYSTEM COMPONENTS - EXPLODED VIEW»(ref-517563-S09135048742012121200000)
