Seat System: Removal & Installation Ford Explorer III

Removal and Installation

  1. Remove the components in the order listed in the following illustration and table. To remove individual components, carry out only the following steps
  2. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  3. Check the active restraint system for correct operation. For additional information, refer to «AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS»(ref-160412) .

Item 3: Rear Seat 40 Percent Riser-to-Floor Nuts Removal Note

  1. With the seat in the normal sitting position lift the seat cushion up for access to the rear seat attachment fasteners.

Item 8: Rear Seat 60 Percent Riser-to-Floor Nut Removal Note

  1. With the seat in the normal sitting position lift the seat cushion up for access to the rear seat attachment fasteners.

Item 11: 60 Percent Seat Removal Note

  1. When removing and installing the 60 percent seat make sure the safety belt buckles are in the down position.

  1. Remove the components in the order listed in the following illustration and table.
  2. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Item 3: Rear Seat 20 Percent Riser-to-Floor Bolts Removal Note

  1. Fold both of the 40 percent seats up to the E-Z entry position.
  2. Remove the two side bolts (one shown).

Item 4: Rear Seat 20 Percent Riser-to-Floor Bolts Removal Note

  1. Remove the two rear bolts (one shown).

Item 3: Rear Seat 20 Percent Riser-to-Floor Bolts Installation Note

  1. Install the two side bolts.
  2. Fold both of the 40 percent seats back to the upright position.

Item 3: Rear Seat 40 Percent E-Z Entry Riser-to-Floor Bolts Removal Note

  1. Fold the affected 40 percent seat up to the E-Z entry position.
  2. Remove the three seat riser-to-floor bolts.

  1. Remove the components in the order listed in the following illustrations and table.
  2. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Scheme 51: Item 1: Cushion Release Levers Removal Note
  1. Release the two levers located at the lower outboard edges of the seat cushion, lift the cushion up and pull the cushion out.

Scheme 52: Item 5: Rear Seat Third Row Backrest-to-Floor Outer Bolts Removal Note
  1. Fold the third row seat backrest down and remove the rear load floor panel.
  2. Access the backrest to floor attachments. Release the trim fabric hook and loop fasteners. Remove the wheel jack storage cover.
  3. Remove the jack assembly.
  4. Remove the two outer load floor support panel bolts and the load floor support panel.

WARNINGThe safety belt pretensioner is a pyrotechnic device. Never probe a pretensioner electrical connector. Doing so could result in pretensioner or air bag deployment and could result in personal injury.

Note. Driver seat is shown, passenger seat is similar.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301) and wait at least one minute. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY AND CHARGING SYSTEM»(ref-194056) .
  2. Deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION»(ref-194073-S19667300182005092600000) .
  3. Remove the front seat. For additional information, refer to «DRIVER SEAT»(ref-194073-S00989977392005092600000) .
  4. Disassemble the components in the order listed in the following illustration and table. To remove individual components, carry out only the following steps
  5. To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.
  6. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY AND CHARGING SYSTEM»(ref-194056) .
  7. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the vehicle harness side of the front safety belt buckle pretensioner electrical connector.
  8. Connect the front safety belt buckle pretensioner electrical connector.
  9. With the restraint system diagnostic tools installed at the remaining deployable devices, prove out the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to «AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS»(ref-160412) .
  10. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY AND CHARGING SYSTEM»(ref-194056) .
  11. Reactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION»(ref-194073-S19667300182005092600000) .
  12. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY AND CHARGING SYSTEM»(ref-194056) .
  13. With all the restraint system diagnostic tools removed, prove out the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to «AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS»(ref-160412) .
