Removal

Note. If installing a new Body Control Module (BCM), verify at least 2 of the vehicle keys are available prior to carrying out this procedure.

  1. NOTE: If installing a new module, it is necessary to upload the module configuration information to the scan tool prior to removing the module. This information must be downloaded into the new module after installation. Upload the module configuration information from the BCM into the scan tool by following the scan tool on-screen instructions. Refer to «MODULE CONFIGURATION»(ref-569553) .
  2. Remove the 2 instrument panel insulator retainers and the instrument panel insulator.
  3. Remove the RH instrument panel side trim panel.
  4. Open the glove compartment door.
  5. Remove the 4 glove compartment retainers and the glove compartment.
  6. Disconnect the 8 BCM electrical connectors, release the 2 clips and remove the BCM.

Installation

Note. The BCM still communicates with the scan tool with the ignition off. Use the previous scan tool session or start a scan tool session using the part number or tear tag number on the PCM. The tear tag number can be found by double-clicking the VIN in the top left corner of PTS after OASIS has been run for the VIN.

Note. Low vehicle battery state-of-charge can affect proper module programming. Battery state-of-charge can be monitored on the scan tool. A red battery icon indicates low vehicle battery state-of-charge. Over-voltage may also affect module programming.

Note. Make sure the battery is fully charged before starting the installation procedure. Do not have a battery charger connected to the vehicle charging system during the installation procedure.

Note. Carry out Steps 2 -16 only if installing a new BCM.

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  2. Using the previous scan tool session, carry out the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) procedure for the BCM.
  3. For vehicles without IA, remove the key from the ignition until Step 5 . For vehicles with IA, turn the ignition OFF and leave it OFF until Step 5 .
  4. Using the scan tool, select Tool Box/Module Programming/Programmable Parameters/Car Configuration Parameter(s).
  5. NOTE: If a diagnostic scan tool is connected to the internet, it will automatically obtain As-Built data. If a diagnostic scan tool is not connected to the internet, obtain the As-Built data from PTS OASIS. Download the As-Built data to the scan tool or other storage device, such as a flash drive, following the on-screen instructions. From the Car Configuration screen select "Retrieve PTS derived ASBUILT data". Follow the on-screen instructions to install the as-built data into the BCM.
  6. NOTE: Any scan tool prompts to turn the ignition on and off should be ignored during the Car Configuration Parameter process. Do not interrupt the process until it is completed.
  7. NOTE: Due to Intelligent Access (IA) key transponder internal location, proper key orientation is required for successful key programming. The transponder is located on the right side of the steering column. Turn ignition on. On vehicles with IA, place the IA key in the transceiver slot.
  8. Disable Factory Mode. Refer to «DISABLING TRANSPORT OR FACTORY MODE»(ref-569586-S13567903852013072700000) .
  9. NOTE: If a PCM tear tag or part number was used to establish the scan tool session, it may be necessary to establish a new session using the normal process. Using a scan tool, enter the PATS functions and follow the on-screen instructions to enter PATS security access.
  10. Select parameter reset BCM and RFA module. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  11. NOTE: PATS security access may need to be granted again. Select parameter reset BCM and PCM. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  12. Carry out the advanced key code erase and program procedure. Refer to «ANTI-THEFT - PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS), WITHOUT INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA)»(ref-569623) (Erase All Keys and Key Programming - Without IA) or «ANTI-THEFT - PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS), WITH INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA)»(ref-569608) (Erase All Keys and Key Programming - With IA).
  13. To configure the customer preference programmable parameters, refer to «MODULE CONFIGURATION»(ref-569553) .
  14. Train the tire pressure sensors. Refer to General Procedures in «TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS)»(ref-569585) .
  15. Carry out the BCM self-test (must include an on-demand self-test) and then repeat the self-test to confirm all DTCs have been cleared.

Note. If installing a new Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module, verify at least 2 of the vehicle keys are available prior to carrying out this procedure.

Note. If installing a new RFA module, the ignition cannot be turned ON until a parameter reset is performed and 2 keys are programmed to the vehicle. The RFA module still communicates with the scan tool with the ignition OFF. Use the previous scan tool session or start a scan tool session using the PCM part number or tear tag.
