Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Remove the heater shut-off valve. Refer to ' «HEATER SHUT-OFF VALVE»(ref-569571-S41241902422013072700000) .
  2. General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer.
  3. Discard the specified component. Follow local disposal regulations. To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  2. NOTE: Cover the generator to prevent coolant contamination of the generator. Completely cover the generator with waterproof plastic.
  3. General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer.

  5. Visual check. To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  2. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to «ENGINE - 2.5L»(ref-569568) .
  3. General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover Installer.
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  2. Fill the cooling system. Refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-569571-S38562264622013072700000) .

Note. Do not loosen or remove the crankshaft pulley bolt without first installing the special tools. The crankshaft pulley and the crankshaft timing sprocket are not keyed to the crankshaft. Before any repair requiring loosening or removal of the crankshaft pulley bolt, the crankshaft and camshafts must be locked in place by the special service tools, otherwise severe engine damage can occur.

Note. During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan can cause engine failure.

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to «JACKING & LIFTING»(ref-569550) .
  2. Remove the cowl panel. Refer to «FRONT END BODY PANELS»(ref-569581) .
  3. Remove the RH front wheel and tire. Refer to «WHEELS AND TIRES»(ref-569561) .
  4. Drain the cooling system. refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-569571-S38562264622013072700000) .
  5. Remove the RH front fender splash shield. Refer to «FRONT END BODY PANELS»(ref-569581) .
  6. Discard the specified component. Follow local disposal regulations.
  7. NOTE: It may be necessary to rotate the halfshaft to remove the front lower bolt.
  8. NOTE: The Crankshaft TDC Timing Pin will contact the crankshaft and prevent it from turning past TDC. However, the crankshaft can still be rotated in the counterclockwise direction. The crankshaft must remain at the TDC position during the crankshaft pulley removal and installation. Install the Special Tool(s): Pin, Crankshaft TDC 303-748.
  9. NOTE: Only rotate the crankshaft clockwise direction. Special Tool(s): Timing Peg, Crankshaft TDC 303-507. Rotate the crankshaft slowly clockwise until the crankshaft balance weight is up against the TDC Timing Peg. The engine is now at TDC.
  10. Turn the component CCW through 1 complete turn.
  11. Remove the generator. Refer to «CHARGING SYSTEM»(ref-569572) .
  12. Special tool(s): Tool, Timing Belt Holding 303-1556. Marker.
  13. NOTE: The crankshaft or camshafts must not be rotated while the timing belt is removed. General Equipment: Holding Pin.

  1. Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  2. Visual check.
  3. Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Remove the General Equipment: Holding Pin.
  4. Visual check Remove the Special Tool(s): Tool, Timing Belt Holding 303-1556.
  5. Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). Finger tight. Finger tight.
  6. Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  7. Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  8. Tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
  9. Tighten to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft).
  10. Install the generator. Refer to «CHARGING SYSTEM»(ref-569572) .
  11. Remove the Special Tool(s): Pin, Crankshaft TDC 303-748.
  12. Tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).
  13. Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  14. Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
  15. Tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).
  16. Install the RH front fender splash shield. Refer to «FRONT END BODY PANELS»(ref-569581) .
  17. Install the RH front wheel and tire. Refer to «WHEELS AND TIRES»(ref-569561) .
  18. Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
  19. Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
  20. Install the cowl panel. Refer to «FRONT END BODY PANELS»(ref-569581) .
  21. Fill the cooling system. refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-569571-S38562264622013072700000) .
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-569571-S38562264622013072700000) .
  2. Turn the component CCW through 1 complete turn.
  3. Discard the specified component. Follow local disposal regulations.
  1. Apply the specified lubricant to the specified component. Material: Motorcraft Orange Antifreeze/Coolant. Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  2. Visual check.
  3. Tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).
  4. Fill and bleed the cooling system. Refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-569571-S38562264622013072700000) .

  1. WARNING: Always allow the engine to cool before opening the cooling system. Do not unscrew the coolant pressure relief cap when the engine is operating or the cooling system is hot. The cooling system is under pressure; steam and hot liquid can come out forcefully when the cap is loosened slightly. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
  2. Hose pinch pliers. Extract the fluid with a syringe.
  3. General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer.
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  2. Fill the degas bottle. Refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-569571-S38562264622013072700000) for the recommended coolant mixture and fill level.
