Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage. VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Mechanical Electrical Door ajar switches (integrated into the door latches) Liftgate ajar switch (integrated into the liftgate latch) Liftgate glass ajar switch (integrated into the liftgate window latch) Smart Junction Box (SJB) fuse(s): 9 (15A) (courtesy lamps) 25 (10A) (demand lamps) 41 (15A) (ambient lighting) (if equipped) SJB Wiring, terminals or connectors Bulb(s) Interior lamp(s) Cargo lamp Vanity lamps Instrument panel dimmer switch Ambient lighting switch (if equipped) Ambient lighting module (if equipped)
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  5. If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM: Check the VCM connection to the vehicle. Check the scan tool connection to the VCM. Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-344076) , No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no power to the scan tool.
  6. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle: Verify the ignition key is in the ON position. Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle. Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-344076) to diagnose no response from the PCM.
  7. Carry out the network test. If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-344076) . If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
  8. Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the SJB.
  9. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to DTC Charts. For all other DTCs, refer to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart in «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-344077) .
  10. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to «SYMPTOM CHART»(ref-344147-S19815247222009101600000) .

Pinpoint Test A: The Courtesy Lamps Do Not Turn On With A Door Open

Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE or SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER , Cluster and Panel Illumination for schematic and connector information.

Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE or SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER , Remote Keyless Entry and Alarm for schematic and connector information.

Note. Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

Note. Make sure the instrument panel dimmer switch is not in the DOME DEFEAT position before continuing diagnostics.

Note. Make sure the interior lamp switch is in the DOOR position before carrying out diagnostics.

  1. A1 CHECK THE COURTESY LAMP OPERATION FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH Ignition OFF. Rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch to the DOME LAMP position. Do the courtesy lamps illuminate? Yes: GO to A2 . No: GO to «PINPOINT TEST E»(ref-344147-S11343246182009101600000) .
  2. A2 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH PID Rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch out of the DOME LAMP position. Ignition ON. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB DataLogger. NOTE: The DOME_DEF PID should indicate All if the switch is in the DOME DEFEAT position and Undefined if it is not. Monitor the SJB instrument panel dimmer switch PID (DOME_DEF). Does the PID indicate Undefined? Yes: GO to A5 . No: GO to A3 .
  3. A3 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH Disconnect: Instrument Panel Dimmer Switch C2035. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB DataLogger. Monitor the SJB instrument panel dimmer switch PID (DOME_DEF). Does the PID indicate Undefined? Yes: INSTALL a new instrument panel dimmer switch. REFER to «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND PANEL ILLUMINATION»(ref-344145) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: GO to A4 .
  4. A4 CHECK THE DOME DEFEAT INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Ignition OFF. Disconnect: SJB C2280b. Measure the resistance between the instrument panel dimmer switch C2065-2, circuit CLN27 (WH/BN), harness side and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? Yes: GO to A8 . No: REPAIR circuit CLN27 (WH/BN) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. A5 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR PIDs Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB DataLogger. Monitor the SJB door ajar switch PIDs (D_DR_SW, P_DR_SW, LRDR_SW, and RRDR_SW) while opening and closing all the doors. Do all the door ajar switch PID values agree with the door positions? Yes: GO to A8 . No: GO to A6 .
  6. A6 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR SWITCH OPERATION Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Suspect Door Ajar Switch. Do the courtesy lamps illuminate? Yes: INSTALL a new door ajar switch in question. REFER to «HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS»(ref-344107) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: GO to A7 .
  7. A7 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect: SJB C2280c. Measure the resistance between the suspect door ajar switch, harness side and ground as follows: CONNECTOR-PIN REFERENCE Suspect Door Ajar Switch Connector-Pin Circuit LH front C525-5 CPL26 (GN/VT) RH front C609-5 CPL31 (WH) LH rear C704-5 CPL39 (YE) RH rear C804-5 CPL39 (YE) Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? Yes: GO to A8 . No: REPAIR the input circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. A8 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes: INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-344077) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.

Pinpoint Test B: The Courtesy Lamps Do Not Turn On With the Liftgate Or The Liftgate Glass Open

Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE or SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER , Remote Keyless Entry and Alarm for schematic and connector information.

Note. Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

  1. B1 CHECK THE COURTESY LAMP OPERATION FROM A DOOR Ignition OFF. Open any door and observe the courtesy lamps. Do the courtesy lamps illuminate? Yes: GO to B2 . No: GO to «PINPOINT TEST A»(ref-344147-S02035407792009101600000) .
  2. B2 CHECK THE COURTESY LAMP OPERATION FROM THE LIFTGATE AND THE LIFTGATE GLASS Open then close the liftgate. Open then close the liftgate glass. Are the courtesy lamps inoperative from both the liftgate and the liftgate glass? Yes: GO to B4 . No: If the courtesy lamps are inoperative from the liftgate, INSTALL a new liftgate ajar switch. REFER to «HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS»(ref-344107) . TEST the system for normal operation. If the courtesy lamps are inoperative from the liftgate glass, GO to B3 .
  3. B3 CHECK THE COURTESY LAMP OPERATION FROM THE LIFTGATE AND THE LIFTGATE GLASS Disconnect: Liftgate Glass Ajar Switch C479. Do the courtesy lamps illuminate? Yes: INSTALL a new liftgate glass latch. REFER to «HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS»(ref-344107) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: REPAIR circuit CPL44 (YE/OG) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. B4 CHECK THE LIFTGATE/LIFTGATE GLASS AJAR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect: SJB C2280c. Disconnect: Liftgate Ajar Switch C478. Measure the resistance between the liftgate ajar switch C478-2, circuit CPL58 (GY/OG), harness side and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? Yes: GO to B5 . No: REPAIR circuit CPL58 (GY/OG) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. B5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes: INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-344077) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.

Pinpoint Test C: The Courtesy Lamps Do Not Turn On From The Instrument Panel Dimmer Switch

  1. C1 CHECK THE DIMMABLE BACKLIGHTING OPERATION Place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position. Monitor the instrument panel dimmable backlighting while rotating the instrument panel dimmer switch from full on to full off. Does the dimmable backlighting intensity change with the instrument panel dimmer switch position? Yes: GO to C2 . No: REFER to «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND PANEL ILLUMINATION»(ref-344145) .
  2. C2 BYPASS THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Instrument Panel Dimmer Switch C2065. Connect a fused jumper wire between the instrument panel dimmer switch C2065-5, circuit CLN17 (BN), harness side and the instrument panel dimmer switch C2065-4, circuit CLN04 (BU/BN), harness side. Do the courtesy lamps illuminate? Yes: REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new instrument panel dimmer switch. REFER to «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND PANEL ILLUMINATION»(ref-344145) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to C3 .
  3. C3 CHECK THE DOME LAMP REQUEST INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: SJB C2280b. Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280b-51, circuit CLN17 (BN), harness side and the instrument panel dimmer switch C2065-5, circuit CLN17 (BN), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes: GO to C4 . No: REPAIR circuit CLN17 (BN) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. C4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes: INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-344077) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

Pinpoint Test D: The Dome Defeat Feature Is Inoperative

Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE or SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER , Cluster and Panel Illumination for schematic and connector information.

Note. Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

  1. D1 BYPASS THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Instrument Panel Dimmer Switch C2035. Connect a fused jumper wire between the instrument panel dimmer switch C2065-2, circuit CLN27 (WH/BN), harness side and the instrument panel dimmer switch C2065-4, circuit CLN04 (BU/BN), harness side. Close and then open any door. Do the courtesy lamps illuminate? Yes: REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to D2 . No: REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new instrument panel dimmer switch. REFER to «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND PANEL ILLUMINATION»(ref-344145) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. D2 CHECK THE DOME DEFEAT INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: SJB C2280b. Measure the resistance between the instrument panel dimmer switch C2298-2, circuit CLN27 (WH/BN), harness side and the SJB C2280b-36, circuit CLN27 (WH/BN), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes: GO to D3 . No: REPAIR circuit CLN27 (WH/BN) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. D3 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes: INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-344077) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. RUN the on-demand self-test (required to clear certain DTCs). CORRECT any unresolved DTCs. CLEAR all DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

Pinpoint Test E: The Interior Courtesy Lamp(s) Are Inoperative

Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE or SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER , Interior Lamps for schematic and connector information.

Note. Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

Note. Make sure the interior lamp switch is in the DOOR position before carrying out diagnostics.

Scheme 8: PINPOINT TEST E: THE INTERIOR COURTESY LAMP(S) ARE INOPERATIVE
  1. E1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF ALL THE COURTESY LAMPS Ignition OFF. Rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch to the DOME LAMP position and observe the interior courtesy lamps. Are all the interior courtesy lamps inoperative? Yes: VERIFY the SJB fuse 9 (15A) is OK. If OK, GO to E4 . If not OK, REFER to the «SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE»(ref-311193) or «SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER»(ref-311218) to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. No: GO to E2 .
  2. E2 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE INTERIOR LAMP Rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch out of the DOME LAMP position. Disconnect: Inoperative Courtesy Lamp. Rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch to the DOME LAMP position. Measure the voltage between the inoperative courtesy lamp, harness side and ground as follows: CONNECTOR-PIN REFERENCE Inoperative Lamp Connector-Pin Circuit Front interior lamp (vehicles with roof opening panel) C931-3 VLN33 (GY/VT) Front interior lamp (vehicles without roof opening panel) C918-1 VLN33 (GY/VT) Second row interior lamp (vehicles with roof opening panel) C918-1 VLN33 (GY/VT) Cargo lamp C926a-3 VLN33 (GY/VT) Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes: GO to E3 . No: REPAIR circuit VLN33 (GY/VT) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

E3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE INTERIOR LAMP USING THE CONNECTOR GROUND Measure the voltage between the inoperative courtesy lamp connector, harness side as follows: CONNECTOR-PIN REFERENCE Inoperative Lamp Connector-Pin/Circuit Connector-Pin/Circuit Front interior lamp (vehicles with roof opening panel) C931-3 VLN33 (GY/VT) C931-1 GD182 (BK/GY) Front interior lamp (vehicles without roof opening panel) C918-1 VLN33 (GY/VT) C918-2 GD182 (BK/GY) Second row interior lamp (vehicles with roof opening panel) C918-1 VLN33 (GY/VT) C918-2 GD182 (BK/GY) Cargo lamp C926a-3 VLN33 (GY/VT) C926b-1 GD182 (BK/GY) Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes: INSTALL a new lamp in question. TEST the system for normal operation. No: REPAIR circuit GD182 (BK/GY) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. E4 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE DEMAND LIGHTING Rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch out of the DOME LAMP position. Ignition ON. Operate the demand lighting function on any courtesy lamp. Does the lamp illuminate with the demand lighting function? Yes: GO to E5 . No: REPAIR circuit GD182 (BK/GY) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. E5 BYPASS THE SJB Ignition OFF. Disconnect: SJB C2280a. NOTE: If the jumper wire fails, refer to the «SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE»(ref-311193) or «SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER»(ref-311218) to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. Run the on-demand self-test (required to clear certain DTCs). Correct any unresolved DTCs. Clear all DTCs. Test the system for normal operation. Connect a fused jumper wire between the SJB C2280a-9, circuit VLN33 (GY/VT), harness side and battery positive. Do the courtesy lamps illuminate? Yes: REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to E6 . No: REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR the circuit VLN33 (GY/VT) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  6. E6 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes: INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-344077) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. RUN the on-demand self-test (required to clear certain DTCs). CORRECT any unresolved DTCs. CLEAR all DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

Pinpoint Test F: All The Courtesy Lamps Stay On Continuously

Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE or SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER , Cluster and Panel Illumination for schematic and connector information.

Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE or SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER , Interior Lamps for schematic and connector information.

Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE or SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER , Remote Keyless Entry and Alarm for schematic and connector information.

Note. Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

Note. Make sure the interior lamp switch is in the DOOR position before carrying out diagnostics.

  1. F1 CHECK FOR SJB OUTPUT DTCs Ignition OFF. Use the recorded results from the SJB self-test. Is DTC B2A35 present? Yes: GO to F2 . No: GO to F3 .
  2. F2 CHECK THE SJB INTERIOR COURTESY LAMP OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Disconnect: SJB C2280a. Ignition ON. Observe the interior courtesy lamps. Do the interior courtesy lamps continue to illuminate? Yes: REPAIR circuit VLN33 (GY/VT) for a short to voltage. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. No: GO to F16 .
  3. F3 CHECK THE SJB INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH DOME LAMP REQUEST PID Ignition ON. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB DataLogger. Monitor the SJB instrument panel dimmer switch dome lamp request PID (DOMELM_SW). Does the PID indicate the instrument panel dimmer switch is in the DOME LAMP position? Yes: GO to F4 . No: GO to F6 .
  4. F4 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Instrument Panel Dimmer Switch C2065. Close all the doors and wait 30 seconds. Do the courtesy lamps continue to illuminate? Yes: GO to F5 . No: INSTALL a new instrument panel dimmer switch. REFER to «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND PANEL ILLUMINATION»(ref-344145) . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. F5 CHECK THE DOME LAMP REQUEST INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect: SJB C2280b. Measure the resistance between the instrument panel dimmer switch C2065-5, circuit CLN17 (BN), harness side and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? Yes: GO to F16 . No: REPAIR circuit CLN17 (BN) for a short to ground. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  6. F6 CHECK THE SJB DOOR AJAR PIDs Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB DataLogger. Monitor the SJB door ajar switch PIDs (D_DR_SW, P_DR_SW, LRDR_SW, and RRDR_SW) while opening and closing all the doors. Do all the door ajar switch PID values agree with the door positions? Yes: GO to F10 . No: GO to F7 .
  7. F7 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE DOOR AJAR SWITCH Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Suspect Door Ajar Switch.   9. F9 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: SJB C2280c.   10. F10 CHECK THE SJB LIFTGATE/LIFTGATE GLASS AJAR PID Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB DataLogger. Monitor the SJB liftgate/liftgate glass ajar switch PID (DECKLID) while opening and closing the liftgate and then the liftgate glass. Does the liftgate/liftgate glass ajar switch PID value agree with the liftgate and liftgate glass positions? Yes: GO to F16 . No: GO to F11 .
  11. F11 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LIFTGATE GLASS AJAR SWITCH Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Liftgate Glass Ajar Switch C479. NOTE: Make sure the liftgate is closed for correct test results. Measure the voltage between the liftgate glass ajar switch C479-3, circuit CPL44 (YE/OG), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes: GO to F12 . No: GO to F13 .
  12. F12 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LIFTGATE GLASS AJAR SWITCH USING THE CONNECTOR GROUND Measure the voltage between the liftgate glass ajar switch C479-3, circuit CPL44 (YE/OG), harness side and the liftgate glass ajar switch C479-2, circuit GD182 (BK/GY), harness side. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes: INSTALL a new liftgate glass latch. REFER to «HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS»(ref-344107) . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. No: REPAIR circuit GD182 (BK/GY) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  13. F13 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LIFTGATE AJAR SWITCH Disconnect: Liftgate Ajar Switch C478. Measure the voltage between the liftgate ajar switch C478-2, circuit CPL58 (GY/OG), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes: GO to F14 . No: GO to F15 .
  14. F14 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LIFTGATE GLASS AJAR SWITCH USING THE CONNECTOR GROUND NOTE: Make sure the liftgate glass switch is connected and the liftgate glass is closed for correct test results. Connect: Liftgate Glass Ajar Switch C479. Measure the voltage between the liftgate ajar switch C478-2, circuit CPL58 (GY/OG), harness side and the liftgate ajar switch C478-1, circuit CPL44 (YE/OG), harness side. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes: INSTALL a new liftgate ajar switch. REFER to «HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS»(ref-344107) . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. No: REPAIR circuit CPL44 (YE/OG) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  15. F15 CHECK THE LIFTGATE/LIFTGATE GLASS AJAR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: SJB C2280c. Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280c-16, circuit CPL58 (GY/OG), harness side and the liftgate ajar switch C478-2, circuit CPL58 (GY/OG), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes: GO to F16 . No: REPAIR circuit CPL58 (GY/OG) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  16. F16 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes: INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-344077) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

Pinpoint Test G: All The Demand Lamps Are Inoperative

Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE or SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER , Interior Lamps for schematic and connector information.

Note. Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

Note. Make sure the courtesy lamps operate before continuing diagnostics.

Scheme 18: PINPOINT TEST G: ALL THE DEMAND LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE
  1. G1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF ALL THE DEMAND LAMPS Ignition OFF. Operate and observe each demand lamp (map lamps and vanity lamps). Are all the demand lamps inoperative? Yes: VERIFY the SJB fuse 25 (10A) is OK. If OK, GO to G2 . If not OK, REFER to the «SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE»(ref-311193) or «SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER»(ref-311218) to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. No: GO to «PINPOINT TEST H»(ref-344147-S19670485932009101600000) .
  2. G2 BYPASS THE SJB Disconnect: SJB C2280d. Connect a fused jumper wire between the SJB C2280d-21, circuit CLN09 (YE/GN), harness side and battery positive. Switch on a demand lamp. Does the demand lamp illuminate? Yes: GO to G3 . No: REPAIR circuit CLN09 (YE/GN) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. G3 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes: INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-344077) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.

Pinpoint Test H: An Individual Demand Lamp Is Inoperative

Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE or SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER , Interior Lamps for schematic and connector information.

Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE or SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER , Interior Lamps for schematic and connector information.

  1. I1 CHECK THE SJB IGNITION SWITCH PIDs Ignition ON. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB DataLogger. Monitor the SJB ignition switch PIDs (IGN A ECU, IGN_O_ECU, IGN_R_ECU and IGN_S_ECU) while rotating the ignition switch through all positions. Do the ignition switch PIDs agree with the ignition switch positions? Yes: GO to I2 . No: REFER to «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES»(ref-344080) .
  2. I2 CHECK THE DEMAND LAMP VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Ignition OFF. Disconnect: SJB C2280d. Ignition ON. Switch any demand lamp on. Does the demand lamp illuminate? Yes: REPAIR circuit CLN09 (YE/GN) for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation. No: GO to I3 .
  3. I3 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes: INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-344077) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.

Pinpoint Test J: All The Ambient Lighting Is Inoperative

No: VERIFY the SJB fuse 41 (15A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR circuit CBX07 (GN/RD) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation. If not OK, REFER to the «SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE»(ref-311193) or «SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER»(ref-311218) to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
  2. J2 CHECK THE INPUT FROM THE AMBIENT LIGHTING SWITCH While pressing and releasing the ambient lighting switch, measure the voltage between the ambient lighting module C3351-2, circuit CLN54 (BN/YE), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the switch pressed and 0 volts with the switch released? Yes: GO to J3 . No: If voltage is always present, GO to J4 . If no voltage is present, GO to J5 .
  3. J3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE AMBIENT LIGHTING MODULE USING THE CONNECTOR GROUND Measure the voltage between the ambient lighting module C3351-1, circuit CBX07 (GN/RD), harness side and the ambient lighting module C3351-8, circuit GD908 (BK), harness. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes: GO to J7 . No: REPAIR circuit GD908 (BK) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. J4 CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Ambient Lighting Switch C3350. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between the ambient lighting module C3351-2, circuit CLN54 (BN/YE), harness side and ground. Is any voltage present? Yes: REPAIR circuit CLN54 (BN/YE) for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation. No: INSTALL a new ambient lighting switch. REFER to «AMBIENT LIGHTING SWITCH»(ref-344147-S03745615152009101600000) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. J5 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE AMBIENT LIGHTING SWITCH Ignition OFF. Connect: Ambient Lighting Module C3351. Disconnect: Ambient Lighting Switch C3350. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between the ambient lighting switch C3350-2, circuit CBX07 (GN/RD), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes: GO to J6 . No: REPAIR CBX07 (GN/RD) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. J6 BYPASS THE AMBIENT LIGHTING SWITCH Connect and remove a fused jumper wire between the ambient lighting switch C3350-2, circuit CBX07 (GN/RD), harness side and the ambient lighting switch C3350-6, circuit CLN54 (BN/YE), harness side. Do the ambient LEDs illuminate and cycle through a color change each time the jumper wire is connected and removed? Yes: INSTALL a new ambient lighting switch. REFER to «AMBIENT LIGHTING SWITCH»(ref-344147-S03745615152009101600000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: REPAIR circuit CLN54 (BN/YE) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. J7 CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING HARNESS Ignition OFF. Check any of the diode circuits between the ambient lighting module, harness side as follows: CONNECTOR-PIN REFERENCE Connector-Pin/Circuit Connector-Pin/Circuit C3351-5 CLN45 (GN) C3351-4 RLN44 (BN) C3351-6 CLN46 (BU) C3351-4 RLN44 (BN) C3351-7 CLN44 (OG) C3351-4 RLN44 (BN) Does the meter indicate the circuit is good? Yes: GO to J8 . No: REPAIR or INSTALL a new ambient lighting harness. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. J8 CHECK FOR CORRECT AMBIENT LIGHTING MODULE OPERATION Disconnect the ambient lighting module connector. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect the ambient lighting module connector and make sure it seats correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes: INSTALL a new ambient lighting module. REFER to «AMBIENT LIGHTING MODULE»(ref-344147-S19817029412009101600000) . TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern is still present, INSTALL the original ambient lighting module. INSTALL a new ambient lighting harness. TEST the system for normal operation. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.

Pinpoint Test K: All The Ambient Lighting Does Not Display All Colors

Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - ESCAPE or SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - MARINER , Interior Lamps for schematic and connector information.

Note. Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

  1. K1 CHECK THE INPUT FROM THE AMBIENT LIGHTING SWITCH Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Ambient Lighting Module C3351. Ignition ON. While pressing and releasing the ambient lighting switch, measure the voltage between the ambient lighting module C3351-2, circuit CLN54 (BN/YE), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the switch pressed and 0 volts with the switch released? Yes: GO to K2 . No: If voltage is always present, GO to K3 . If no voltage is present, GO to K4 .
  2. K2 CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING HARNESS Ignition OFF. Check the diode circuits between the ambient lighting module, harness side as follows: CONNECTOR-PIN REFERENCE Connector-Pin/Circuit Connector-Pin/Circuit C3351-5 CLN45 (GN) C3351-4 RLN44 (BN) C3351-6 CLN46 (BU) C3351-4 RLN44 (BN) C3351-7 CLN44 (OG) C3351-4 RLN44 (BN) Does the meter indicate good for each circuit check? Yes: GO to K6 . No: REPAIR or INSTALL a new ambient lighting harness. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. K3 CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Ambient Lighting Switch C3350. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between the ambient lighting module C3351-2, circuit CLN54 (BN/YE), harness side and ground. Is any voltage present? Yes: REPAIR circuit CLN54 (BN/YE) for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation. No: INSTALL a new ambient lighting switch. REFER to «AMBIENT LIGHTING SWITCH»(ref-344147-S03745615152009101600000) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. K4 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE AMBIENT LIGHTING SWITCH Ignition OFF. Connect: Ambient Lighting Module C3351. Disconnect: Ambient Lighting Switch C3350. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between the ambient lighting switch C3350-2, circuit CBX07 (GN/RD), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes: GO to K5 . No: REPAIR circuit CBX07 (GN/RD) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. K5 BYPASS THE AMBIENT LIGHTING SWITCH Connect and remove a fused jumper wire between the ambient lighting switch C3350-2, circuit CBX07 (GN/RD), harness side and the ambient lighting switch C3350-6, circuit CLN54 (BN/YE), harness side. Do the ambient LEDs illuminate and cycle through a color change each time the jumper wire is connected and removed? Yes: INSTALL a new ambient lighting switch.   6. K6 CHECK FOR CORRECT AMBIENT LIGHTING MODULE OPERATION Disconnect the ambient lighting module connector. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect the ambient lighting module connector and make sure it seats correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
