Removal and Installation

WARNINGThe evaporative emission system contains fuel vapor and condensed fuel vapor. Although not present in large quantities, it still presents the danger of explosion or fire. Disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery to minimize the possibility of an electrical spark occurring, possibly causing a fire or explosion if fuel vapor or liquid fuel is present in the area. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING & LIFTING»(ref-210109) .
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-210181) .
  3. Remove the spare tire.
  4. Disconnect the evaporative emissions (EVAP) hose and tube.
  5. Disconnect the EVAP canister vent solenoid electrical connector and harness retainer.
  6. Remove the bolts.
  7. Disconnect the EVAP tube from the EVAP canister.
  8. Separate and remove the EVAP canister from the bracket.
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Carry out the evaporative emission system leak test.   1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-210181) .
  2. Remove the engine cover. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(ref-210204) .
  3. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve electrical connector and the vacuum hose.
  4. Disconnect the EVAP hoses and remove the nuts and the EVAP canister purge valve.
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Carry out the evaporative emission system leak test.   1. Remove the fuel tank. For additional information. Refer to «FUEL TANK & LINES-GASOLINE & DIESEL»(ref-210164) .
  2. Remove the fuel vapor vent valve. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister tube. Press down and rotate the fuel vapor vent valve counterclockwise and remove from the fuel tank.
  3. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Carry out the evaporative emission system leak test.   1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING & LIFTING»(ref-210109) .
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector and the hoses and remove the fuel tank pressure sensor. AFT-OF-AXLE FUEL TANKS
  3. Disconnect the fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector.
  4. Press down and rotate the fuel pressure sensor counterclockwise and remove from the fuel tank.
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Carry out the evaporative emission system leak test.   1. Remove the evaporative emission canister. For additional information, refer to «EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CANISTER»(ref-210151-S09160362112005121300000) .
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector and the evaporative emissions hose and remove the canister vent solenoid.
  3. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Carry out the evaporative emission system leak test.
