TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

The steering column switches consist of the following components

  1. The multifunction switch, which controls the following functions: Turn signals Headlamp dimmer Headlamp flash-to-pass Hazard warnings Cornering lamps Windshield washer/wipers
  2. Ignition switch

Refer to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article for schematic and connector information.

Scheme 2: Inspection and Verification
  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.
  3. If inspection reveals an obvious concern that is readily repaired, correct the concern before continuing with inspection and verification.
  4. If the concern remains after inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel to carry out DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS (DTC) test. If the diagnostic tool responds with NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for the lighting control module (LCM), refer to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(/ford/crown-victoria/ii-1997-2011/remont/communication-devices/#multifunction-electronic-modules-system) article.. If the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS test is passed for the LCM, retrieve continuous DTCs and execute self-test diagnostics for the LCM to retrieve current DTCs.
  5. If the self-test is passed and no DTCs are retrieved, go to the «SYMPTOM CHART»(/ford/crown-victoria/ii-1997-2011/remont/ignition-switchsteering-lock/#steering-column-switches) to continue diagnostics.
  6. If DTCs are retrieved, go to the «LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE (LCM) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHART»(/ford/crown-victoria/ii-1997-2011/remont/ignition-switchsteering-lock/#steering-column-switches) to continue diagnostics.
  7. If the LCM cannot be accessed by the diagnostic tool, refer to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(/ford/crown-victoria/ii-1997-2011/remont/communication-devices/#multifunction-electronic-modules-system) article.

Note. For a complete list of lighting control module (LCM) DTCs, refer to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
