SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS
| CAUTION | When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See the COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section before disconnecting battery. |
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
Note. Diagnostic procedures must be performed in proper sequence using the following steps to ensure proper diagnosis.
- Retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from ECM. See «RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES»(ref-11311-S41886335362000111300000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Record DTC for future reference.
- Clear DTCs from ECM. See «CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES»(ref-11311-S18426386782000111300000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Road test vehicle using proper vehicle drive cycle. See «VEHICLE DRIVE CYCLE»(ref-11311-S08088201242000111300000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Check for a trouble symptom. If trouble symptom, such as stalling or hard starting exists, proceed to trouble symptom inspection table and then perform a specified inspection procedure. Trouble symptom inspection table and trouble symptom inspection procedures are listed after the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) tests. See «TROUBLE SYMPTOMS»(ref-11311-S11493446212000111300000) .
- If no trouble symptom exists, retrieve DTCs from ECM. Using all DTCs obtained, proceed to «SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TESTS»(ref-11311-S36467877102000111300000) . Once all repairs are made, ensure DTCs are cleared from PCM. See procedures under «CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES»(ref-11311-S18426386782000111300000) . Repeat vehicle drive cycle to ensure repair complete and DTC is not reset. See «VEHICLE DRIVE CYCLE»(ref-11311-S08088201242000111300000) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
Note. DTCs may be retrieved using Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box DRB-III scan tool. DRB-III may be used in general scan tool mode and DRB-III scan tool mode. Not all DTCs will be displayed in DRB-III scan tool mode. Use DRB-III in general scan tool mode and DRB-III scan tool mode when retrieving DTCs. Ensure battery is fully charged before retrieving DTCs.
Scheme 61
