INSTALLATION
- Mount transfer case on a transmission jack.
- Secure transfer case to jack with chains.
- Position transfer case under vehicle.
- Align transfer case and transmission (1) shafts and install transfer case onto the transmission.
- Install and tighten all transfer case attaching bolts (2) to 41-49 N.m (30-36 ft. lbs.) torque.
- Connect front propeller shaft and install rear propeller shaft. Refer to «SHAFT, DRIVE, FRONT , INSTALLATION»(ref-465926-S33290621992012042300000) and «SHAFT, DRIVE, REAR , INSTALLATION»(ref-465926-S23102361482012042300000) .
- Remove transfer case fill plug (2).
- Fill transfer case with correct fluid. Correct as necessary. Refer to «CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS , DESCRIPTION»(ref-465919-S18209813092012042300000) .
- Install the transfer case fill plug (2). Tighten the plug to 22-28 N.m (16-21 ft.lbs.).
- Install rear crossmember and skid plate, if equipped. Tighten crossmember bolts to 41 N.m (30 ft. lbs.) torque.
- Remove transmission jack and support stand.
- Lower vehicle and verify transfer case operation.
REMOVAL
- Remove the transfer case from the vehicle. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-465985-S04385886632012042300000) .
- Remove the front input shaft seal with a suitable pry tool or a screw mounted in a slide hammer.
Note. Lubricate all seals with MOPAR® ATF+4 prior to installation.
- Using seal installer (special tool #9672, Installer, Seal) (2) with drive handle (special tool #C-4171, Driver Handle, Universal) (1), install input shaft seal (3) into case half (4).
- Install the transfer case into the vehicle. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-465985-S37336449522012042300000) .
- Check the transfer case fluid. Correct as necessary. Refer to «STANDARD PROCEDURE»(ref-465985-S06154351772012042300000) .
The front output shaft seal cannot be serviced in the vehicle. The transfer case must be disassembled to remove the front output shaft assembly and seal. Refer to DISASSEMBLY .
The rear output shaft seal cannot be serviced in the vehicle. The transfer case must be disassembled to remove the rear output shaft assembly and seal. Refer to DISASSEMBLY .
