Circuit Description
The Transmission Control Module (TCM) completes numerous scheduled tasks during normal operation. If one of the scheduled tasks fails to complete within a specific time limit, the TCM will re-attempt this task. The presence of DTC P0606 indicates a TCM software error has occurred, and your GM Dealer Network Service Department should be contacted.
This is a type "B" DTC.
Conditions For Running The DTC
DTC will run under the following condition
- This test is run during the entire ignition cycle.
Conditions For Setting The DTC
DTC will set under the following condition
- DTC sets if a task fails to complete after two consecutive attempts.
Action Taken When The DTC Sets
TCM performs the following actions if DTC is set
- When the failure is active, the transmission locks in Neutral. The transmission will have limited operating ability.
- Illuminates the MIL when active.
- The TCM freezes shift adapts.
- TCM inhibits TCC engagement.
Conditions For Clearing The DTC
DTC will clear under the following conditions
- A scan tool can be used to clear the DTC from the TCM history.
- The TCM automatically clears the DTC from the TCM history.
DTC is set by the engine PCM. DTC P0700 allows a technician to be alerted from the engine diagnostic side that the TCM is setting a DTC and is requesting the MIL. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
