Cruise Control Module Programming and Setup

After replacing the distance sensing cruise control module, the cruise control module setup and programming procedure must be performed. Refer to Distance Sensing Cruise Control Aiming .

Digital Radio Receiver Programming and Setup

Each of the following service procedures requires programming or setup procedures to be performed on the digital radio receiver.

XM™ Activation

IMPORTANTAfter replacement of an XM™ receiver, call XM™ radio to deactivate the receiver that has been removed from the vehicle. The vehicle must be parked in view of a satellite within 24 hours after an activation call.
  1. Radio ON, tune to the XM™ channel 0 and record the radio ID. The radio ID will be required for activation of the new receiver.
  2. Call XM™ radio to deactivate the faulty receiver and activate the new receiver. US: 1-800-556-3600 Canada: 1-877-438-9677
  3. Park the vehicle outside in an area with an unobstructed view of the southern sky.
  4. Leave the vehicle outside with the ignition switch in the ACC position and the radio ON, tune to the XM™ channel 1 for 30 minutes to activate XM™ service.
  5. Once activated, the radio will receive the remaining XM™ channels.

Door Control Module Programming and Setup

The door control modules require no programming or setup.

Engine Control Module Programming and Setup (V6)

The following service procedures require either a programming or a setup event performed for a complete repair.

ECM Reprogramming

  1. If the engine control module (ECM) needs to be reprogrammed, refer to «Service Programming System (SPS)»(ref-338152-S36851889652009081700000) .
  2. Engine Oil Life Remaining-When available, use a scan tool to reset the Engine Oil Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was reprogrammed.

Engine Control Module Programming and Setup (with RPO LC3 or LH2)

The following service procedures require either a programming or a setup event performed for a complete repair.

  1. If the ECM needs to be reprogrammed, refer to «Service Programming System (SPS)»(ref-338152-S36851889652009081700000) .
  2. Engine Oil Life Remaining-When available, use a scan tool to reset the Engine Oil Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was reprogrammed.
  3. Transmission Fluid Life Remaining-When available, use the scan tool to reset the Transmission Fluid Life Remaining back to the original percentage recorded before the module was replaced.

Garage Door Opener Programming and Setup

The garage door opener (GDO) programming and setup procedures must be performed after replacement. Refer to Garage Door Opener Programming - Universal .

Headlamp Leveling Module Programming and Setup

The headlamp leveling control module requires no programming or setup.

Heated Seat Control Module Programming and Setup

This device requires no programming or setup.

HVAC Control Module Programming and Setup

Each of the following service procedures may require programming or setup procedures to be performed on the HVAC control module or HVAC actuators.

HVAC Control Module Reprogramming

Do not reprogram the HVAC control module unless directed by a service procedure or a service bulletin.

Reprogram HVAC Control Module-Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .

Inside Rearview Mirror Programming and Setup

After replacing the inside rearview mirror, the compass calibration procedure must be performed. Refer to Compass Calibration and Magnetic Variance .

Instrument Cluster Head Up Display Programming and Setup

This device requires no programming or setup.

Instrument Cluster Programming and Setup

After Installation of a new IPC, a setup needs to be performed to configure the IPC to the vehicle. Use the scan tool to perform the IPC setup. This will configure Tap Up/Tap Down to the vehicle and enable/disable Speed Alert and Speed Advisory feature.

Setup New IPM/RIM

This procedure will allow the user to compare the IPM and rear integration module (RIM) vehicle configuration data. The IPM is the master for storing vehicle configuration and a backup copy is retained in the RIM. If a fault occurs in either module, this test will do a comparison of data and the user will then be able to update the data in the module that was replaced.

To set up a new IPM, perform 'Setup New IPM/RIM' procedure under Vehicle Control Systems > Computer/Integrating Systems > Module Setup > IPM menus on the scan tool.

Excepting the Export Country option, which is slightly different, the screen will display 4 columns. The user will be able to scroll up and down with the up and down arrow keys in all columns. The user will be able to scroll through options available to that name/function in the fourth column with the left and right arrow keys. The first column will display the function of the option. The second column will display RIM data and the third column will display IPM data. The fourth and final column will display all options available for that name/function. The user will compare the RIM to the IPM data or the IPM to the RIM data depending on which module was replaced. If the user replaces the IPM, the user will scroll through the options with the left and right arrow keys in the fourth column and match that option with the option set in the RIM column. Likewise, if the user replaces the RIM, the user will scroll through the options with the left and right arrow keys in the fourth column and match that option with the option set in the IPM column.

After all options were set, save them using Save Options. If the option setting was successfully, Procedure Complete message will be displayed. The power mode will toggle from Run to Accessory.

Program VIN

This procedure needs to be performed if IPM is replaced. Under Module Setup > IPM menu, perform the Program VIN procedure following the Tech 2 instructions.

Memory Seat Control Module Programming and Setup

The memory seat module uses position sensor inputs to establish soft stop locations for the steering column adjuster motors several millimeters ahead of the physical limits of the adjuster assembly. After replacing the memory seat module or steering column adjuster components, the steering column calibration procedure must be performed. Refer to Telescoping Steering Column Calibration .

Object Alarm Module Programming and Setup

This device requires no programming or setup.

Radio Antenna Module Programming and Setup

There is no setup procedure that needs to be performed for the antenna module on this vehicle.

Radio Programming and Setup

Each of the following service procedures require programming or setup procedures to be performed on the radio.

Without Navigation Radio

Using the Tech 2, perform the VIN relearn procedure. After programming the VIN cycle the ignition key with the retained accessory power (RAP) disabled.

Navigation Radio

This device requires no programming or setup

This procedure will allow the user to compare the IPM and rear integration module (RIM) vehicle configuration data. The IPM is the master for storing vehicle configuration and a backup copy is retained in the RIM. If a fault occurs in either module, this test will do a comparison of data and the user will then be able to update the data in the module that was replaced.

After all options were set, save them using Save Options. If the option setting was successfully, Procedure Complete message will be displayed. The power mode will toggle from Run to Accessory.

IMPORTANTAfter setup, perform the following to avoid future misdiagnosis
  1. Turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds.
  2. Connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  3. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  4. Use the scan tool in order to retrieve history DTCs from all modules.
  5. Clear all history DTCs.

Remote Control Door Lock Receiver

If the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed in the order listed below

  1. Perform the Keyless Entry Transmitter Programming procedure. Refer to «Transmitter Programming (North America, except Canada)»(ref-338156-S32221838362009081700000) or «Transmitter Programming (Canada, Europe, Asia, Middle East)»(ref-338156-S35045258242009081700000) , using Method 2 to perform the programming.
  2. Perform the procedure to set up a new RCLDR: Connect the Tech 2 to the vehicle. Select RCDLR under Module Setup in the Vehicle Control System menu. Select Setup New RCDLR. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Perform the 10-Minute Immobilizer Relearn procedure. Refer to «Immobilizer System Component Programming»(ref-338179-S06686803632009081700000) . When performing the relearn procedure, select Theft Deterrent Learn for ECM on the SPS terminal.
  4. Perform the Tire Pressure Sensor Learn procedure. Refer to «Tire Pressure Sensor Learn»(ref-338180-S22118161242009081700000) .

If the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed in the order listed below

  1. Perform the Keyless Entry Transmitter Programming procedure. Refer to «Transmitter Programming (North America, except Canada)»(ref-338156-S32221838362009081700000) or «Transmitter Programming (Canada, Europe, Asia, Middle East)»(ref-338156-S35045258242009081700000) , using Method 2 to perform the programming.
  2. Perform the procedure to set up a new RCLDR: Connect the Tech 2 to the vehicle. Select RCDLR under Module Setup in the Vehicle Control System menu. Select Setup New RCDLR. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Perform the 10-Minute Immobilizer Relearn procedure for the SCLM. Refer to «Immobilizer System Component Programming»(ref-338179-S06686803632009081700000) . During the SCLM programming, select Theft Deterrent Learn for Column Lock Module (Export Only) on the SPS terminal.
  4. Perform the 10-Minute Immobilizer Relearn procedure for the ECM. Refer to «Immobilizer System Component Programming»(ref-338179-S06686803632009081700000) . When performing the relearn procedure, select Theft Deterrent Learn for ECM (Export Only) on the SPS terminal.
  5. Perform the Tire Pressure Sensor Learn procedure. Refer to «Tire Pressure Sensor Learn»(ref-338180-S22118161242009081700000) .

Seat Climate Control Module Programming and Setup

This device requires no programming or setup.

Service Programming System (SPS)

For step-by-step programming instructions, please refer to the techline information system (TIS) terminal.

Review the information below to ensure proper programming protocol.

IMPORTANTDO NOT program a control module unless you are directed by a service procedure or you are directed by a General Motors Corporation service bulletin. Programming a control module at any other time will not permanently correct a customers concern. It is essential that the Tech 2 and the TIS terminal are both equipped with the latest software before performing service programming system (SPS). Due to the time requirements of programming a controller, it is recommended that an external power source be used to maintain system voltage. Stable battery voltage is critical during programming. Any fluctuation, spiking, over voltage or loss of voltage will interrupt programming. To ensure trouble-free programming, GM recommends using one of the following external power sources: A Midtronics PSC charger A fully charged 12V jumper or booster pack disconnected from the AC voltage supply Some modules will require additional programming/setup events performed before or after programming. Some vehicles may require the use of a CANDi module for programming. Review the appropriate service information for these procedures. DTCs may set during programming. Clear DTCs after programming is complete. Clearing powertrain DTCs will set the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) system status indicators to NO.

Ensure the following conditions are met before programming a control module

  1. FlexFuel (E85) Vehicles The fuel composition learn function is inactive. Programming with the fuel composition learn active will result in fuel trim DTCs. If necessary, drive the vehicle until the scan tool indicates that the fuel composition learn is inactive.
  2. Vehicle system voltage There is not a charging system concern. All charging system concerns must be repaired before programming a control module. Battery voltage is greater than 12 volts but less than 16 volts. The battery must be fully charged before programming the control module. Turn OFF or disable any system that may put a load on the vehicles battery, such as the following components: Twilight sentinel Interior lights Daytime running lights (DRL)-Applying the parking brake, on most vehicles, disables the DRL system Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems Engine cooling fans, radio, etc.
  3. The ignition switch must be in the proper position. The Tech 2 prompts you to turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. DO NOT change the position of the ignition switch during the programming procedure, unless instructed to do so.
  4. Make certain all tool connections are secure, including the following components and circuits: The RS-232 communication cable port The connection at the data link connector (DLC) The voltage supply circuits
  5. DO NOT disturb the tool harnesses while programming. If an interruption occurs during the programming procedure, programming failure or control module damage may occur.
  6. DO NOT turn OFF the ignition if the programming procedure is interrupted or unsuccessful. Ensure that all control module and DLC connections are secure and the TIS terminal operating software is up to date. Attempt to reprogram the control module. If the control module cannot be programmed, replace the control module.

Sunroof Control Module Programming and Setup

When replacing the sunroof motor/control module, the sunroof motor/actuator initialization/teach procedure must be followed. Refer to Sunroof Motor/Actuator Initialization/Teach Process before starting the repair procedure.

Television Antenna Module Programming and Setup

There is no setup procedure for this module.

Window Regulator Motor Programming and Setup

When a window motor has been disconnected or has lost battery voltage, the window motor must be reprogrammed. Refer to Window Motor Programming - Express Function .
