Door Adjustment

  1. Loosen the door hinge to pillar bolts. This will allow adjustment of the door at the hinge pillar in the following directions: Up or down (c), 0-2 mm (0-0.08 in) upwards, 1 mm (0.04 in) upwards preferred. Fore or aft (b), 3-5 mm (0.12-0.20 in) equal gap, 4 mm (0.16 in) preferred.
  2. Reposition the door as needed.
  3. Position the door fore or aft at the hinge pillar attachment. Perform the following steps as needed: Loosen the bolts. Reposition the door. Tighten the bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  4. Verify the doors are flush to within 1 mm (0.04 in), with a flushing magnet (1) located in the striker area below the beltline.
  5. If in or out adjustment is needed, remove the door hinge. Refer to «Door, Hinge Replacement - Front Door»(ref-197538-S02215485502005101200000) or «Door, Hinge Replacement - Rear Door»(ref-197538-S15526905132005101200000) .
  6. Drill the door side of the hinge holes with a 13 mm (0.5 in) drill bit in order to allow for 2.5 mm (0.10 in) in or out adjustment.
  7. Use replacement bolts, GM P/N 11519454 on the door side of the hinge.
  8. Leave the bolts on the door side of the hinge loose.
  9. Align the front door to the front fender first, if needed.
  10. Position the door in or out. Perform the following steps as needed: Loosen the bolts. Reposition the door. Tighten the bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  11. Align the rear door to the front door and rear quarter, if needed.
  12. Position the door in or out. Perform the following steps as needed: Loosen the bolts. Reposition the door. Tighten the bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  13. Adjust the seal gap (a) at the door header to 13-17 mm (0.52-0.68 in), 15 mm (0.60 in) preferred, by placing knee near the beltline and pulling inward or pushing outward.
  14. Verify door header to door header at the center pillar is flush to within 1 mm (0.04 in). Adjust the door headers if necessary.
  15. Verify all door gaps are within specifications.
  16. Adjust the lock striker. Refer to «Lock Striker Adjustment - Door»(ref-197538-S35865951532005101200000) .

Lock Striker Adjustment - Door

CAUTIONStriker alignment is crucial for proper operation of the door systems. Do not hit the striker with a hammer or force alignment in any other way. Failure to properly adjust striker will result in excessive door efforts or extensive damage to door system operation which could result in personal injury.
  1. Loosen the 2 striker screws.
  2. Pull the striker outboard to the end of the adjustment travel.
  3. Tighten the 2 striker screws so that the striker can still be moved.
  4. Hold the outside door handle out and gently push the door flush against the body in order to locate the striker.
  5. Slowly open the door.
  6. Secure the striker assembly. Tighten: Tighten the striker screws to 27.5 N.m (20 lb ft).
  7. After adjusting the striker, touch up any exposed or unpainted surfaces with body color paint.

Window Adjustment - Door

  1. Remove the door trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door»(ref-197538-S19037725242005101200000) or «Trim Panel Replacement - Side Rear Door»(ref-197538-S28289700812005101200000) .
  2. Pull down the upper portion of the water deflector far enough to access the window clamp nuts. Refer to «Water Deflector, Check Link Replacement - Front Door»(ref-197538-S21766831722005101200000) or «Water Deflector, Check Link, Energy Absorber Replacement - Rear Door»(ref-197538-S02323589112005101200000) .
  3. Loosen the window regulator to window clamp nuts 4 revolutions.
  4. Connect the door trim panel wire connector.
  5. Start the vehicle.
  6. Using the power window switch, raise the window to the full up position. Tighten: Tighten the window clamp nuts to 11 N.m (98 lb in).
  7. Inspect for proper window operation and a tight seal.
  8. Shut off the vehicle.
  9. Install the water deflector. Refer to «Water Deflector, Check Link Replacement - Front Door»(ref-197538-S21766831722005101200000) or «Water Deflector, Check Link, Energy Absorber Replacement - Rear Door»(ref-197538-S02323589112005101200000) .
  10. Install the door trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door»(ref-197538-S19037725242005101200000) or «Trim Panel Replacement - Side Rear Door»(ref-197538-S28289700812005101200000) .
