11 00 590 Replacement power plant (N54)
Necessary preliminary tasks
- Remove and install «engine»(ref-351443-S41027951872009122100000) .
- Mount engine on assembly stand .
- If necessary, remove foreign bodies from turbocharger group.
- Check all assemblies and convert to replacement power plant.
Remove transportation locks (1).
Note. Catch escaping engine oil with a suitable cloth (2).
Scheme 413
Transportation locks (1) are no longer needed.
Scheme 414
Modify screw plugs (1) from old power plant.
Insert screw plugs (1).
Tightening torque: 11 42 11AZ , see OIL FILTER AND LINES
Secure oil cooler lines with mounting bar (2).

Assemble engine.

Owing to the new guidelines on pedestrian protection, side panels are no longer suitable for supporting the engine.
Observe following instructions relating to special tool
- Prior to each use, check the special tools for defects, modifications and operational reliability.
- Damaged/modified special tools must not be used!
- No changes or modifications may be made to the special tools!
- Keep special tools dry, clean and free of grease.
Necessary preliminary tasks
- Secure engine bonnet/hood in service position
- Remove «acoustic cover»(ref-351443-S19076284442009122100000) .
Assemble cross member 00 0 200 with special tools 00 0 202 , 00 0 204 , 00 0 208 .
Modification
Replace profile strips with special tools 00 0 451 .
Replace front supports with special tools 00 0 452 .
Note. Ensure that the longer feet of special tools 00 0 452 point to the middle of the vehicle.

Note. The support points on the left side are shown.
Position transverse member 00 0 200 with a 2nd person helping on designated areas (1, 2).
Note. Make sure that the front supports 00 0 452 are correctly positioned on the support carriers.

| IMPORTANT | Avoid a change of engine position in the transverse or longitudinal direction. Always make sure there is sufficient clearance between the engine (or its attachment parts) and the body. |
Screw towing hook (72 15 8 108 670) into crankcase and tighten down to approx. 30 Nm.
Scheme 418
Align transverse member so that spindle 00 0 202 is correctly positioned over towing hook.
Secure suitable chain to spindle 00 0 202 and suspend from towing hook (1).

| WARNING | Risk of injury! Tighten down all adjusting screws and nuts on cross member 00 0 200 . |
Scheme 420
Unscrew nuts (1).
Raise engine approx. 10 mm with transverse member.
Installation
Replace self-locking nut.
Tightening torque 22 11 2AZ , see 22 11 ENGINE SUSPENSION

11 28 020 Replace alternator drive belt tensioner (N54)

Necessary preliminary tasks
- Remove «drive belt»(ref-351443-S02801479942009122100000)
Remove special tool 11 3 340 .
Release screw on belt tensioner.
Tightening torque 11 28 1AZ , see 11 28 V-RIBBED BELT WITH TENSION AND DEFLECTION ELEMENT
Assemble engine.
