A/C compressor, removing and installing
Note. Mark running direction of ribbed belt before removing. Ribbed belt could break if allowed to run in reverse direction. When removing compressor, take particular care not to damage power steering pressure switch -F88 (located on power steering pump).
- Discharge refrigerant circuit. Refer to .
- Remove refrigerant pipes from compressor.

- 6-cylinder engine - remove compressor from bracket. Refer to «A/C compressor - 6-cyl. engine, removing from bracket (refrigerant pipes remain connected)»(/audi/tt/8n-1998-2003/remont/ac-compressor/#heating-air-conditioning) .
Note. Removed compressor contains refrigerant oil that must be accounted for when replacing compressor. Replacing components. Refer to Refrigerant R134a - Servicing After installing replacement compressor, turn by hand 10 revolutions before activating system for the first time. - Start engine with the compressor switched off ("OFF" mode).
- Wait until the idling speed has stabilized.
- Switch on the compressor and allow to run for at least 10 minutes with the engine idling.
