Battery, Removing and Installing

Removing

CAUTIONFor vehicles with Telematics, activate the Telematics control module service mode using "Guided Fault-Finding" before disconnecting the battery.
  1. Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
  1. Remove right luggage compartment side trim cover - arrows -.
  1. Remove covers - 1 - and - 2 - over battery.

  1. Connect the battery charger for battery assistance mode --> «Battery, Preparing for Support Mode»(/audi/s8/d3-2007-2011/remont/cruise-control-systems/#electrical-equipment__battery-preparing-for-support-mode) .
  2. Disconnect ground (GND) wire - 2 - and B+ wire - 4 - from battery.
  3. Remove hose of central venting system - 3 -.
  4. Remove bolt - 1 - at battery bracket.
  1. Lift battery out of right luggage compartment.
CAUTIONBattery and sulfuric acid disposal regulations must be followed when disposing of batteries --> 27 - BATTERY, STARTER, GENERATOR, CRUISE CONTROL .

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Note. Batteries from the Audi Parts Program have a bottom strip-adapter for adapting to different grip channels. Whether and how bottom strip-adapter is used, refer to operating instructions for battery.

  1. Insert battery into battery holder so that tab of rear battery holder - arrow - engages into cutout for battery clamping strip - 1 -.
  1. It should no longer be possible to move the battery.
  1. Secure battery bracket with bolt - 1 -.

Note. Lug at battery bracket must engage in recess at battery base strip.

With ignition switched off and electrical consumers switched off, connect battery in the following sequence

  1. Connect positive cable terminal clamp - 4 - by hand to battery positive terminal "+" and tighten nut.
  2. Connect pole shoe - 2 - of ground cable by hand to battery negative terminal "-" and tighten nut.
  3. Connect central venting system hose - 3 - while observing notes --> «27 - BATTERY, STARTER, GENERATOR, CRUISE CONTROL»(/audi/s8/d3-2007-2011/remont/cruise-control-systems/#electrical-equipment-general-information) .
  4. Check battery after installation for secure seating --> «27 - BATTERY, STARTER, GENERATOR, CRUISE CONTROL»(/audi/s8/d3-2007-2011/remont/cruise-control-systems/#electrical-equipment-general-information) .
  1. Stop battery assistance mode at battery charger.

If the battery was not removed and installed in assistance mode, the following steps must be performed after reconnecting the battery

  1. Deactivate service mode of Telematic Control Module using "Guided Fault-Finding".
  2. Activate automatic open/close function of electric window lifters. Refer to Owners Manual.
  3. Turn ignition key in ignition lock once to left as far as it will go.
  4. Synchronize secondary and additional keys to ensure remote control operation.
  1. Check DTC memories of all control modules and erase "Undervoltage" DTC if necessary.

Note. After re-connecting power supply, ABS warning lamp may only go out after the vehicle has been driven a few yards.

If the battery was replaced, Energy Management Control Module J644 must be coded anew.
