Removing

Remove the seat backrest cover and cushion

  1. Standard seat and Sport seat (manual or power) and Comfort seat, refer to «BACKREST COVER AND CUSHION»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/seats/#seat-upholstery-covers__backrest-cover-and-cushion) .
  2. Folding seat. Refer to «BACKREST COVER AND CUSHION, PASSENGER FOLDING SEAT»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/seats/#seat-upholstery-covers__backrest-cover-and-cushion-passenger-folding) .

Cut through the upholstery clips -3- using pliers -4-.

Remove the cover -1- from cushion -2-.

Installation

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Make sure the contour strips fit correctly and the cover is not wrinkled.

When installing new upholstery clips, use V.A.G 1634.

BACKREST COVER AND CUSHION

  5. Eye protection for vehicles equipped with a DVD player
  6. 12 mm drill for vehicles equipped with a DVD player

Removing

WARNINGFollow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION . Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Remove the front seat

  1. Standard seat and Sport seat (manual), refer to «MANUAL STANDARD FRONT SEAT»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/seats/#seat-frames) .
  2. Standard seat, Sport seat (power) and Comfort seat, refer to «POWER STANDARD FRONT SEAT»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/seats/#seat-frames__power-standard-front-seat) .

Attach the front seat to the VAS 6136. Refer to INSTALLING FRONT SEAT ON FIXTURE FOR SEAT REPAIR VAS 6136 .

Vehicles equipped with a mount for a DVD player

  1. DVD player removed.

Unclip the trim -2- for the connector -arrow-.

WARNINGEye injury risk. Wear protective eyewear!

Drill out the guides -1- and -3- for the DVD player using a 12 mm drill.

CAUTIONDanger of destroying the backrest cover and cushion. The guides are held in the backrest frame by the retaining tabs -arrows-. When removing, drill out only up to dimension -a- = 35 mm.

All vehicles

Remove backrest cover panel. Refer to BACKREST COVER .

Remove the headrests. Refer to HEADRESTS WITH LOCKING MECHANISM .

Remove the front seat backrest. Refer to FRONT SEAT BACKREST .

Vehicles with Comfort seat: disconnect the fan connectors.

Disengage the rear fastening strips -1, 2, 3 and 4- on the backrest frame using the 3370.

Remove the clips -5- with the 80 - 200.

Remove the padding from the front backrest until the side airbag bolt -7- is accessible; to do this carefully pull off the cover -2- and the padding -3- in the area around the side airbag.

Remove the bolt -7-.

Release the side airbag -6- and the hook -5- from the backrest frame -4- and leave it in the pocket sewn into the cover -1-.

Remove the cover and cushion from the backrest frame while guiding the side airbag wiring harness.

Installation

Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Make sure the retaining strips engage correctly and the cover is not wrinkled.

Vehicles equipped with a mount for a DVD player

  1. The guide mounts -1- and -3- on the backrest must free of contaminants.

Align the backrest cover and install the guides into the mounts.

  1. The guides -1- and -3- can be installed in only one position.
  2. The release buttons must face outside.

Install the trim -2-.

  1. The trim can be installed in only one position.

Note. Ignore -arrow-.

All vehicles

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

WARNINGConnect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.

BACKREST COVER AND CUSHION, PASSENGER FOLDING SEAT

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Seat Repair Stand VAS 6136
  2. Drill for vehicles equipped with a DVD player
  3. Eye protection for vehicles equipped with a DVD player
  4. 12 mm drill for vehicles equipped with a DVD player

Removing

WARNINGFollow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION . Remove the passenger folding seat. Refer to MANUAL STANDARD FRONT SEAT .

Attach front folding seat to VAS 6136. Refer to INSTALLING FRONT SEAT ON FIXTURE FOR SEAT REPAIR VAS 6136 .

Vehicles equipped with a mount for a DVD player

  1. DVD player removed.

Unclip the trim -2- for the connector -arrow-.

WARNINGEye injury risk. Wear protective eyewear!

Drill out the guides -1- and -3- for the DVD player using a 12 mm drill.

Remove backrest cover panel. Refer to BACKREST COVER .

Remove the headrests. Refer to HEADRESTS WITH LOCKING MECHANISM .

Remove tunnel side trim panel. Refer to TRIM, TUNNEL SIDE .

Remove the trim on the sill side. Refer to TRIM, SILL SIDE .

Fold the backrest forward.

Disengage the rear retaining strips -1, 2, 3 and 4- on the backrest frame.

Remove the left and right clips -5- and open the zipper.

Fold the backrest back up and remove the cover and lower cushion on the backrest frame.

Remove the padding from the front backrest until the side airbag bolt -7- is accessible; to do this carefully pull off the cover -2- and the padding -3- in the area around the side airbag.

Remove the bolt -7-.

Release the side airbag -6- and the hook -5- from the backrest frame -4- and leave it in the pocket sewn into the cover -1-.

Remove the cover and cushion from the backrest frame while guiding the side airbag wiring harness.

Installation

  1. The guide mounts -1- and -3- on the backrest must free of contaminants.

Align the backrest cover and install the guides into the mounts.

  1. The guides -1- and -3- can be installed in only one position.
  2. The release buttons must face outside.

Install the trim -2-.

  1. The trim can be installed in only one position.

Note. Ignore -arrow-.

All vehicles

Close the lower zipper on the backrest cover.

Stick the ends of the zipper under the cover.

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

WARNINGConnect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.

BACKREST HEATING ELEMENT

Removing

Disconnect cover from upholstery. Refer to BACKREST COVER, SEPARATING FROM CUSHION .

Cut the electrical wire -3- off directly at the old backrest heating element -2-.

Note. The old seat heating element remains on the upholstery -1- and the new seat heating element is bonded over it. Ignore -A through D- and -arrows-.

Installation

Align new heating element on backrest cushion.

CAUTIONMake sure the new heating element is affixed to the old heating element. Remove the protective foil off the heating element in the affixing sequence. When removing the protective film, make sure the heating element is not damaged and that it is attached without wrinkles.

Bond the individual areas of the heating element in the sequence -A and B-.

Route the connecting wires to the individual heating surfaces in the base of the gaps -arrows-.

Pull the wire -2- through the slit in the cushion -1-.

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

BACKREST HEATING ELEMENT, COMFORT SEAT

Cut the electrical wire -2- off directly at the old backrest heating element -3-.

Loosen the heating surfaces -A- and -B- from the adhesive and remove.

Note. The spacer fabric must not be damaged.

Installation

Align new heating element on backrest cushion.

CAUTIONMake sure the new heating elements are bonded so they line up with the old ones. Remove the protective foil off the heating element in the affixing sequence. When removing the protective film, make sure the heating element is not damaged and that it is attached without wrinkles.

Bond the individual areas of the heating element in the sequence -A and B-.

Pull the wire -3- through the slit in the cushion -1-.

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

HEADREST COVER AND CUSHION

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Removal Wedge 3409
CAUTIONIt is only possible to replace the cover on the headrest with a leather cover. It is not possible to replace a fabric headrest cover because the cover is filled with foam and also serves as the casing for the upholstery. The headrest support is built into the upholstery. Both components are attached to each other and cannot be separated.

Open the side locks -arrows- on the cover -1-.

Insert the 3409 in -direction of arrow A- between the cover zipper -1-.

Open the zipper by inserting the 3409 between the zipper and the cover.

Closes the main zipper by moving the upper cover flat channel -1- -2-.

Closing the side locks is similar to the closing the main lock.

After closing the main zipper and the side zippers with a needle or other pointed object, line up the cover and the profiles.

Remove tunnel side trim panel. Refer to TRIM, TUNNEL SIDE .

Vehicles with seat occupied recognition passenger airbag deactivation, remove the seat occupied recognition. Refer to PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM .

Disengage the cover clamping strip -1- using the 3370 on the front and on the sides -arrow-.

Disengage the retaining strip -2- on the cover at the back using the 3370.

Remove the cover with upholstery from the seat pan.

Vehicles with passenger occupant detection system: remove the cover, the cushion and the seat occupied recognition mat, and the seat occupied recognition pressure sensor -G452- and the seat occupied recognition control module -J706-.

Remove the cover -3- from the support with the upholstery.

Installation

Install cover -3-.

Position the cover and slide it correctly over the support with cushion.

Close the zipper while installing the upper flat channel -1-.

Push the edge of the cover with the flat channel into the U-channel -3-.

After closing the zipper with a needle or pointed tool, line up the cover the strip.

Make sure the cover lies on the upholstery without any wrinkles and without seam markings.

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

PASS-THROUGH DOOR COVER

Remove the rear center armrest. Refer to CENTER ARMREST .

Remove the pass-through door. Refer to PASS-THROUGH COVER .

Pry off and remove the retaining strips -2- on the back side of the pass-through door -3- -arrow-.

Disengage the retaining strips -4- on the front side of the pass-through door.

Remove the cover -1- from the pass-through door.

Installation

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Make sure the retaining strips engage correctly and the cover is not wrinkled.

  1. Special Pop Rivet Pliers V.A.G 1753A
  2. Drill
  3. 4 mm drill bit
  4. Protective eyewear

Remove the cover for the pass-through door. Refer to PASS-THROUGH DOOR COVER .

WARNINGEye injury risk. Wear protective eyewear!

Remove the rivets -3- and remove the cushion -2- from the pass-through door -1-.

Installation

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

PASS-THROUGH DOOR, GLUING WITH LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT COVER

Special tools and workshop equipment required

A replacement pass-through door is supplied without the luggage compartment cover.

Order the luggage compartment covering having the correct color.

Glue the luggage compartment cover first to the back of the pass-through door before installing the cover and cushion.
