BACKREST ADJUSTING WHEEL

Turn the backrest adjustment wheel -1- until a locking mechanism is visible from behind -arrow A-. It may be necessary to use a flashlight.
Engage 3399 and pry it in -direction of arrow B-.
Turn backrest adjustment wheel about 120° more.
Engage 3399 and pry it in -direction of arrow B-.
Remove backrest adjustment wheel.
Installation
Install the backrest angle adjustment wheel onto the backrest and press on it until it audibly engages.
If backrest adjustment wheel is too loose after installation, replace wheel.
BACKREST COVER
Note. Removal and installation can be done with seat installed. Removing and installing a standard front seat is described. It is identical for the other seat versions. The illustration shows a backrest cover without a storage net. The storage net cannot be removed from the backrest cover and can only be replaced together with the backrest cover.

Reach behind the backrest cover -1- and pull it to the right and off the seat backrest -2-.
Note. Use the Pry lever 80 - 200 if it is difficult to remove.
Repeat the process on the other side.
Loosen all the hooks.
Remove the backrest cover further and roll it up until the lower hooks come out of the backrest frame.
Remove the backrest cover downward.
Installation

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following
First push the upper hook -2- under the upper backrest cross member -1-.
Tilt the backrest cover down and engage the side retaining tabs -3- and -5- and the lower hooks -4-.
Make sure the tabs on the side fit correctly into the backrest frame and the lower hooks are bent correctly over the backrest frame.
Press the backrest cover firmly into the areas marked with circles -arrows- in the direction of the backrest.

Check if the backrest cover is correctly locked.
- It must not be possible to move the backrest cover at the bottom.

Switch the ignition on.

Unclip the front cover -1- with 3409 and pull cover in -direction of arrow- off connector station -2-.

Remove the trim bracket on the sill side. Refer to RETAINING BRACKET TRIM, SILL SIDE .
Move the seat all the way to the rear and raise it.
Carefully push the right and left release tab -3- toward the outside with a screwdriver and remove the drawer -1- from the mount -2-.
Remove the bolts -arrows-.
Disengage and remove the drawer mount form the retainers in the seat pan frame.
Installation
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

Remove the bolts -1-.
Remove the retaining plate -2- for the screen console.
Remove the nut -2-.
Guide socket -4- and washer -3- out of mount -1-.
Installation
Installation is reverse of removal, noting the following
Pull washer -3- up and slide socket -4- from the side into mount -1-.
- The socket must fit in the center of the mount.
Hold the socket in this position and tighten the nut.
Install the retaining plate hooks into the backrest frame -3- -arrows-.
Tighten the bolts.
Tightening specifications, refer to TIGHTENING SPECIFICATION, RETAINING PLATE FOR THE DVD PLAYER , and TIGHTENING SPECIFICATION, DVD SOCKET .

Procedure

Remove the seat backrest cover and cushion
- Standard seat and Sport seat (manual or power) and Comfort seat. Refer to «BACKREST COVER AND CUSHION»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/seats/#seat-upholstery-covers__backrest-cover-and-cushion) .
- Folding seat. Refer to «BACKREST COVER AND CUSHION, PASSENGER FOLDING SEAT»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/seats/#seat-upholstery-covers__backrest-cover-and-cushion-passenger-folding) .
Insert the M6 threaded pin -1- into the VAS 5073 and install internally threaded pop rivet -2- all the way.
Insert the pop rivet all the way into the hole in backrest frame -3- and then compress it with the pop rivet pliers.
Remove the threaded pin with the pop rivet pliers one more time.
Install the retaining plate for the DVD player. Refer to DVD PLAYER RETAINING PLATE .
FOUR-WAY LUMBAR SUPPORT
The following describes the removal and installation of a power standard front seat. The procedure is similar for a manual standard front seat.
FRONT SEAT BACKREST

Remove tunnel side trim panel. Refer to TRIM, TUNNEL SIDE .

Disconnect the wiring harness connectors for the seat backrest and free up the disconnected wiring harnesses. Refer to MODULAR WIRE ROUTING WITH RIDGED TUBE ON FRONT SEAT .
Note. The wiring harness between the connection point and the side airbag is continuous.
Disconnect the lower left and right rubber straps -1- an the seat pan.

Press the release button forward in the -direction of the arrow-.
Hold the release button down in this position.
Pull headrest -2- up out of guides -1- and -4-.

Installation

Remove the rear bolts -1- (quantity 2) to the console -3-.
Move seat as far back and up as possible.

Opening Corrugated Pipe and Removing Individual Wire

Remove the front seat

Open the wiring bracket -1- using the 3409.

Open the corrugated tube and replace the faulty wire or the side air bag. Install Individual Wires and Close Corrugated Pipe
Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following
When bundling and placing individual wires in the corrugated tube, make sure the wires are not twisted.
Note. Note the installation position of the two-part corrugated tube to the wiring harness and the position of the wiring bracket to the corrugated tube.
The beginning of the corrugated tube -4- should be placed immediately after the clip -2- or cable tie around the wiring harness -3-.

Make sure the two-part corrugated tube locks cleanly over entire length.
After connecting both halves of the corrugated pipe, wiring bracket -1- should be positioned and clipped into place according to the illustration.
Make sure the side -arrow A- of the cable bracket connects to the last rib -arrow B- on the corrugated pipe.
Install the cable ties, wiring bracket and clips in the same positions as before removal.

Move the front seat all the way forward.
Remove the seat forward/back adjustment handle -1- from its mount -2- using a rubber or plastic mallet.
Note. The unit is shown rotated 180°.
Installation
Push the seat forward/back adjustment handle back onto its mount.
Hit the seat forward/back adjustment handle all the way back on with a rubber hammer.
Note. Be careful not to damage the handle when hitting it with the rubber hammer.

Note. There is no separation between the upper and lower seat pan frame on the manual standard front seat.

Remove the headrests. Refer to HEADRESTS WITH LOCKING MECHANISM .
Remove the backrest cover and cushion

Carefully rotate the torsion bar -1- with a screwdriver until it disengages from the oblong hole -arrow- on the seat pan.

Remove the screw -3- and the remove the trim spreader clip -2-.
Disengage the rear trim -1- on the seat -arrow A-.
Pull the trim slightly toward the rear, remove it from the bracket -3- and then remove it forward -arrow B-.
Vehicles with a four-way lumbar support: disconnect the connector -4- on the lumbar support adjustment switch -1-.

If the left and right backrest frames are not in the position marked before removal, correct their position accordingly.
Position the backrest adjustment motor -1- on the bracket -3-.
Scheme 161
Replace the bolt -4-. Coat it with locking compound fluid D 000 600 A2 and tighten it by hand.
- It must still be possible to move the backrest adjustment motor.
First slide the shaft through the anchor (tunnel side) as far as the stop -2- in the backrest adjustment motor.
Check whether the profile of the inserted shaft and mount -2- in the backrest adjustment motor align.
- If the shaft profile and the mount in the backrest adjustment motor align
Slide the shaft through backrest adjustment motor and backrest frame.
- If the shaft profile and the mount in the backrest adjustment motor do not align
Connect an external power source (12 Volt) to the backrest adjustment motor -1-.
Rotate mount -2- until it aligns with the shaft profile.
Slide the shaft through backrest adjustment motor and backrest frame.
Apply locking compound fluid D 000 600 A2 to the shaft threaded piece.
Install the new nut -4- on the shaft -3- and tighten it.
Bolt the backrest adjustment motor on the bracket -3- and tighten it to the tightening specification.

Test the seat forward/back adjustment motor or control module

Tilt seat all the way up.
Note. Check electrical and electronic components and wires before removing seat further to avoid unnecessary repair costs.
Perform the following tests
- Check the fuse. Refer To appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS Information
- Check the voltage at the connector station and perform fault finding if necessary. Refer To appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS Information.
- Check the voltage to the control module. Refer To appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS Information.
- Check the voltage to the seat forward/back adjustment motor -V288-. Refer To appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS Information.
Replace the fuse if faulty. Refer To appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS Information.
If there is no voltage at the coupling station, repair or replace the wire. Refer To appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS Information.
If the driver seat forward/back adjustment motor -V28- or thefront passenger seat forward/back adjustment motor -V31- is faulty, replace the lower seat frame. Refer to SEAT PAN FRAME, UPPER .
If the memory seat/steering column adjustment control module -J136- or the passenger memory seat control module -J521- is faulty, replace the control module. Refer to MEMORY SEAT/STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT CONTROL MODULE .
Remove If The Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor Is Faulty

Switch the ignition on.
Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .
Disconnect the harness connectors at the coupling station. Refer to DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING HARNESS CONNECTORS .
Connect VAS 6281. Refer to CONNECTING THE AIRBAG ADAPTER VAS 6281 .
Remove the bolt -1-.

Unclip the seat position sensor -2- and the wire form the lower seat frame and move it to the side.
Disconnect the front safety belt latch connector. Refer to FRONT BELT LATCH Disconnect the connector -3- and free up the wire -arrows-. .
Disconnect the electrical connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.

First remove the lock nut and then remove the screw -5-.

Remove the screws -1, 3, 4 and 7-.
With a second technician, separate the upper seat frame -2- from the lower frame -6- and remove from the vehicle.
Note. Seat without the cushion, cover and backrest is illustrated.
Make sure the bushings -1- and the bearing points (connection upper and lower frame) -2- are not damaged.

Remove the bolts for the seat rail to the bracket.

Remove the faulty seat forward/back adjustment motor -1- on the bracket -arrow A-.
Remove the screws -arrows B- and remove the seat rail cross brace -3-.
Remove the screws -arrows C- and seat forward/back adjustment motor bracket -2-.
Install the seat forward/back adjustment motor driveshaft -3- with a cordless screwdriver -4- or drill.

Insert the driveshaft into the drive spindle -arrow A- and turn is forward and backward -arrows B- until the seat rail screws are accessible.
Remove the screws and the seat rail.
Repeat the process on the other side.

Disconnect the connector -3- on the seat angle adjustment motor.

Remove the ring -4- on the spindle with a screwdriver.
Hold the spindle -8- with pliers -9- on the marked location to keep it from turning and remove the screw -6-.
Remove the screw -1- and remove the seat angle adjustment motor -2- from the bracket.
Separate the upper and lower seat frame, move the seat angle adjustment motor and spindle forward and remove the spindle nut -5-.
INSTALLING

Disconnect the connector -2- on the seat height adjustment motor.

Remove the seat position sensor on the lower seat frame. Refer to DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER SEAT POSITION SENSOR WITH SEAT OCCUPIED SENSOR FOR BELT FASTENING DETECTION .
Remove the front belt latch on the lower seat frame. Refer to FRONT BELT LATCH .
Disconnect the electrical connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.
First remove the lock nut and then remove the screw -5-.
| CAUTION | Danger of damaging the threaded the holes or the bushing in the bearing points (connecting the upper and lower frame). A second technician is needed to be pushing on the seat via the backrest while removing the following screws. |
Remove the screws -1, 3, 4 and 7-.
Remove the upper frame -2- upward from the lower frame -6-.
Make sure the bushings -1- and the bearing points (connection upper and lower frame) -2- are not damaged.
| CAUTION | The bushings cannot be replaced with workshop materials. If the bushings are damaged, the corresponding assembly parts must be replaced. |

Note. The upper and lower seat frames cannot be separated from each other on the following front seats: manual standard seat and manual Sport seat as well as folding front passenger seat. The upper and lower frames of the seat pan can be separated from each other and replaced individually on the following front seats: power standard seat, power Sport seat and Comfort seat
Removing

Raise the seat to make it possible to pretension the torsion bar.
Remove the front seat. Refer to POWER STANDARD FRONT SEAT .
Remove the front seat backrest. Refer to FRONT SEAT BACKREST .
Remove the seat pan upholstery.
- Power standard seat and Comfort seat. Refer to «SEAT PAN COVER AND UPHOLSTERY»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/seats/#seat-upholstery-covers__seat-pan-cover-and-upholstery) .

Disconnect the electrical connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.
Disconnect the front safety belt latch connector. Refer to FRONT BELT LATCH Disconnect the connector -3- and free up the wire -arrows-. .
Remove the seat position sensor from the lower frame. Refer to DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER SEAT POSITION SENSOR WITH SEAT OCCUPIED SENSOR FOR BELT FASTENING DETECTION .
First remove the lock nut and then remove the screw -5-.

Remove the screws -1, 3, 4 and 7-.

Remove the seat height adjustment motor. Refer to SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT MOTOR .
Remove the seat angle adjustment motor. Refer to SEAT ANGLE ADJUSTMENT MOTOR .
Remove wiring harnesses and individual wires from seat pan upper frame.

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.
| WARNING | Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery. |

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.

Remove the outer cover on the rear seat backrest. Refer to BACKREST COVER, OUTER .
Remove the inner cover on the rear seat backrest. Refer to BACKREST COVER, INNER .
Remove the center rear belt anchor. Refer to REAR SEAT BELT ANCHOR IN CENTER SEATING POSITION .
Vehicles equipped with backrest heating: disconnect the backrest heating harness connector
Remove the shaft -1- by opening the tab -2- pushing the shaft on the other side with a screwdriver -arrow-.
Remove the backrest screws -1, 2 and 3- on the outside of the rear seat.

Open the cover in the luggage compartment side trim panel.
Remove the nuts -1- and then remove the bracket -2-.

Remove the bolt -2-.
Open the hooks on the lower cover with a screwdriver and disengage them from the rear seat backrest -arrow A-.
Disengage the upper cover -1- from the backrest and remove in -direction of arrow B-.
Installation
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.
BACKREST COVER, OUTER

Removing

Remove the rear seat. Refer to SEAT FRAME .
Release the rear seat backrest and tilt it forward slightly (do not fold it all the way down).
Remove the screw on the cover -3-.
Open the lower latch -2- on the cover.
Open the hooks on the lower cover with a screwdriver and disengage them from the rear seat backrest -arrow A-.
Remove the cover -1- from the backrest in -direction of arrow B-.
Installation
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.
BACKREST RELEASE ACTUATOR

Note. Removal and installation are same for right and left.
Removing

Pull the release lever -1- and release the rear seat backrest.
Hold the release lever pulled and remove the screw -3-.
Pry the backrest release actuator -2- out of the trim using the 3409 -arrow- and remove it.
Unclip the cable on the backrest release actuator.
Disengage the cable ball studs and remove the backrest release actuator.
Installation
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.
BACKREST RELEASE HANDLE
Note. Removal and installation are same for right and left.
Removing

Remove the outer cover on the rear seat backrest. Refer to BACKREST COVER, OUTER .
Carefully remove the backrest release handle -2- from the rear seat.
Lift the tab on the inside of the backrest release handle -3- with a small screwdriver and remove the handle from the lever -1- -arrow-.
Installation
Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following
Make sure the handle is mounted correctly on the lever.
BACKREST RELEASE LEVER
Note. Removal and installation are same for right and left.
Removing

Remove the rear seat. Refer to BENCH SEAT .
Remove the outer cover on the rear seat backrest. Refer to BACKREST COVER, OUTER .
Disengage the cable -2- from the bolt on the release lever -3-.
Remove the bolt -1-.
Disengage the release lever of the rear seat backrest -arrow- and remove it.
Installation
Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following
Attach the release leer to the rear seat backrest.
BENCH SEAT
Note. Removal and installation of the left 2/3 bench seat is described here. Removal and installation of the right 1/3 bench seat is identical.
Scheme 211
Remove the covers on the LATCH child seat anchorages. Refer to ANCHORAGE COVER .
Reach under the seat frame with both hands on one side of the seat bench.
Pull the bench seat -1- up forcefully with both hands -arrow A- so the wire hooks -2- on the bench seat disengage from the mounting grommet -3-.
Repeat the procedure on the opposite side -arrow B-.
Vehicles with seat heating: disconnect the seat heating connector
Remove the bench seat from vehicle.
Scheme 212
| CAUTION | Replace the mounting grommets each time the bench seat is removed. |
REMOVE THE MOUNTINGS -5- FROM THE SEAT FRAME.
Check the seat frame near the mounting plates for any deformation, and align it, if necessary.
Press the mounting plates onto the seat frame until you hear them click into place.
Further installation is performed in reverse sequence of removal, but observe the following
Install the seat bench while installing the rear wire hook -3- under the seat frame -2- -arrow-.
Press the front wire hook -4- into the mounting -5- on the seat frame until it audibly engages.
Note. Make sure the seat heating electrical collections slide on and engage audibly.
CENTER ARMREST
Removing

Remove the rear center armrest trim. Refer to CENTER ARMREST TRIM .
Remove the bolts -2 and 3-.
Disengage and remove the rear center armrest -1- on the backrest -arrow-.
Installation
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.
CENTER ARMREST TRIM

Removing

Fold the rear center armrest up.
Starting at the top, pry off the center armrest trim -1- -arrows A- using the 3409.
Pull the trim as far as possible toward the rear.
Hold the trim on the side and pull it up and remove in -direction of arrow B-.
Remove the rear center armrest trim.
Installation
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.
CUPHOLDER
Removing

Remove the cupholder trim. Refer to CUPHOLDER TRIM .
Open the cupholder cover -1-.
Press the clamp -3- on one side in the -direction of the arrow- using a screwdriver and carefully remove the cupholder trim over the retaining tab -2- from the rear center armrest.
Repeat the process on the other side.
Remove the cupholder.
Installation
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.
CUPHOLDER TRIM

- Removal Wedge 3409
Removing
Scheme 216
Fold the rear center armrest up.
Carefully pry off the trim -1- with the 3409 -arrows-.
Remove the trim from the rear center armrest.
Installation
Scheme 217
The guide in the trim -1- must face upward -arrow-.
Install the trim to the center armrest and press on it until it audibly engages.
HEADREST
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Adjustment Gauge 3371
Note. There are two different versions for the headrest release on the outside rear headrests. These two different versions are what makes removing the headrests different. Check to make sure which version you are working in and proceed accordingly.
Note. The Adjustment gauge 3371 is required for version 2 only.
Note. The center headrest is always removed according to Version 1.
Version 1, Removing
Scheme 218
Press the button -3- for the headrest height adjustment -2- in -direction of arrow- and pull it -1- upward and out of the backrest -2-.
Version 2, Removing
Press the button -3- for the head restraint height adjustment -2- in -direction of arrow- and pull the head restraint -1- out of the backrest -2- until it stops.
Scheme 219
Note. The release -3- is always positioned in the direction of travel. and on the right headrest guides on the right-hand side.
Insert the 3371 that has a 2 mm thickness between the headrest guide -1- and the cover -2- ; then press the release -3- in -direction of arrow-. At the same time, pull the headrests -4- upward and out of the rear seat backrest.
Installing Both Versions
Slide the headrest into the backrest as far as the bottom position.
Check if the headrest locks correctly.
- It must not be possible to pull the headrest back out of the backrest.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Hook 3438
Removing
Scheme 220
Remove the headrests. Refer to HEADREST .
Insert the 3438 into the headrest guide -1- and engage the hook on the tab -arrow B-.
- The hook must point to the right.
Pull the headrest guide upward and out of the mount -2- -arrow A-.
Installation
The headrest guide can only be inserted in one position.
Install headrest guide with button at left.
Make sure the headrest guide is installed correctly.
LOCK TRIM
Removing

Unlock the pass-through door.
Unclip the trim tab -3- its retainer -2-.
Remove the trim -1- from the pass-through door lock -arrow-.
Installation
Make sure the trim fits completely on the pass-through door lock.
LOWER CABLE
Note. Removal and installation are same for right and left.

Remove the rear seat. Refer to SEAT FRAME .
Remove the rear seat backrest. Refer to BACKREST .
Disengage the cable -1- from the bolt on the release lever.
Unclip the release cable -2- on the rear seat backrest -arrows-.

Make sure the cable is fully attached.
PASS-THROUGH DOOR LOCK

Unlock the pass-through door.
Remove the lock trim. Refer to LOCK TRIM .
Remove the screws -2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8-.
Remove the lock -6- and the release -1- from the pass-through door.
Installation
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.
PASS-THROUGH COVER
Removing

Remove the left two third rear seat. Refer to SEAT FRAME .
Remove the inner cover on the rear seat backrest. Refer to BACKREST COVER, INNER .
Move the rear seat backrest cushion to the side and remove the circlip -1- with a screwdriver.
Unlock the pass-through door.
Remove the trim mat -3- on the pass-through door by removing the piping with a screwdriver -5- -arrow-.
Remove the bolt -4-.
Remove the pass-through door -2- and the center armrest.
Installation
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.
Remove the rear bench seat. Refer to BENCH SEAT .
Vehicles with seat forward/back adjustment: move the rear seat all the way to the rear.
Left 2/3 rear seat

Remove the bolts -1, 2, 3, 4-.
Unclip the cable coupling station -5- on the seat frame -arrow-, open the cover and disconnect the cable.
Right 1/3 rear seat
Scheme 226
Remove the bolts -1, 2, 3, 4-.
Unclip the cable coupling station -5- on the seat frame -arrow-, open the cover and disconnect the cable.
Procedure for both sides
Vehicles with seat heating: free up the seat heating connector on the seat frame.
Fold the rear seat backrest forward and, with a second technician, lift the rear seat out of the vehicle.
Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following
Left 2/3 rear seat
Tighten the bolts in the following sequence -1, 2, 3 and 4-.
Right 1/3 rear seat
Tighten the bolts in the following sequence -1, 2, 3 and 4-.
Procedure for both sides
Attach the cable and clip the coupling station to the seat frame.
UPPER CABLE
Note. Removal and installation are same for right and left.

Remove the backrest release actuator. Refer to BACKREST RELEASE ACTUATOR .

Remove the rear sill trim. Refer to REAR SILL PANEL TRIM .
Unclip the cable retainers -2 and 3- -1- using the 80 - 200 and remove the cable.
Installation
Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following
Make sure the cable is fully attached.
SEAT HEATING CONTROL MODULE J882

Remove the cover -1- from the the right luggage compartment right side trim panel -arrow-.
Remove the nuts -2 and 3-.
Remove the control module -1- and bracket.
Open the tabs -3- on the bracket with a screwdriver.

Disconnect the connector -2- and remove the seat heating control module.
Installing
Clip the control module -4- back into the bracket -1-.
