Turn the backrest adjustment wheel -1- until a locking mechanism is visible from behind -arrow A-. It may be necessary to use a flashlight.

Engage 3399 and pry it in -direction of arrow B-.

Turn backrest adjustment wheel about 120° more.

Engage 3399 and pry it in -direction of arrow B-.

Remove backrest adjustment wheel.

Installation

Install the backrest angle adjustment wheel onto the backrest and press on it until it audibly engages.

If backrest adjustment wheel is too loose after installation, replace wheel.

BACKREST COVER

Note. Removal and installation can be done with seat installed. Removing and installing a standard front seat is described. It is identical for the other seat versions. The illustration shows a backrest cover without a storage net. The storage net cannot be removed from the backrest cover and can only be replaced together with the backrest cover.

Reach behind the backrest cover -1- and pull it to the right and off the seat backrest -2-.

Note. Use the Pry lever 80 - 200 if it is difficult to remove.

Repeat the process on the other side.

Loosen all the hooks.

Remove the backrest cover further and roll it up until the lower hooks come out of the backrest frame.

Remove the backrest cover downward.

First push the upper hook -2- under the upper backrest cross member -1-.

Tilt the backrest cover down and engage the side retaining tabs -3- and -5- and the lower hooks -4-.

Make sure the tabs on the side fit correctly into the backrest frame and the lower hooks are bent correctly over the backrest frame.

Press the backrest cover firmly into the areas marked with circles -arrows- in the direction of the backrest.

Move the seat all the way to the rear and raise it.

Carefully push the right and left release tab -3- toward the outside with a screwdriver and remove the drawer -1- from the mount -2-.

Remove the bolts -arrows-.

Disengage and remove the drawer mount form the retainers in the seat pan frame.

Remove the bolts -1-.

Remove the retaining plate -2- for the screen console.

Remove the nut -2-.

Guide socket -4- and washer -3- out of mount -1-.

Installation

Installation is reverse of removal, noting the following

Pull washer -3- up and slide socket -4- from the side into mount -1-.

  1. The socket must fit in the center of the mount.

Hold the socket in this position and tighten the nut.

Install the retaining plate hooks into the backrest frame -3- -arrows-.

Tighten the bolts.

Remove the seat backrest cover and cushion

  2. Folding seat. Refer to «BACKREST COVER AND CUSHION, PASSENGER FOLDING SEAT»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/seats/#seat-upholstery-covers__backrest-cover-and-cushion-passenger-folding) .

Insert the M6 threaded pin -1- into the VAS 5073 and install internally threaded pop rivet -2- all the way.

Insert the pop rivet all the way into the hole in backrest frame -3- and then compress it with the pop rivet pliers.

Remove the threaded pin with the pop rivet pliers one more time.

Install the retaining plate for the DVD player. Refer to DVD PLAYER RETAINING PLATE .

FOUR-WAY LUMBAR SUPPORT

The following describes the removal and installation of a power standard front seat. The procedure is similar for a manual standard front seat.

FRONT SEAT BACKREST

Disconnect the lower left and right rubber straps -1- an the seat pan.

Note. The wires between the seat pan and the connector station are inside a double-shell corrugated tube in the so-called modulate wiring routing.

Opening Corrugated Pipe and Removing Individual Wire

Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Remove the front seat

  1. Standard seat and Sport seat (manually adjustable) as well as front folding seat - passenger seat, refer to «MANUAL STANDARD FRONT SEAT»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/seats/#seat-frames) .
  2. Standard seat, Sport seat (power) and Comfort seat, refer to «POWER STANDARD FRONT SEAT»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/seats/#seat-frames__power-standard-front-seat) .

Attach the front seat to the VAS 6136. Refer to INSTALLING FRONT SEAT ON FIXTURE FOR SEAT REPAIR VAS 6136 .

Open the wiring bracket -1- using the 3409.

Remove the wiring bracket from the corrugated pipe -2-.

Install Individual Wires and Close Corrugated Pipe

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

When bundling and placing individual wires in the corrugated tube, make sure the wires are not twisted.

Note. Note the installation position of the two-part corrugated tube to the wiring harness and the position of the wiring bracket to the corrugated tube.

The beginning of the corrugated tube -4- should be placed immediately after the clip -2- or cable tie around the wiring harness -3-.

Make sure the two-part corrugated tube locks cleanly over entire length.

After connecting both halves of the corrugated pipe, wiring bracket -1- should be positioned and clipped into place according to the illustration.

Make sure the side -arrow A- of the cable bracket connects to the last rib -arrow B- on the corrugated pipe.

Install the cable ties, wiring bracket and clips in the same positions as before removal.

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

WARNINGConnect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.

Remove tunnel side trim panel

Remove the screw -1-, if applicable.

Remove the screws -2- and remove the bracket -3- from the front seat.

Installation

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

SEAT FORWARD/BACK ADJUSTMENT HANDLE

Note. Removal and installation can be done with seat installed. Removal and installation are same for right and left. The seat fore and aft adjustment handle cannot be removed without destroying it.

Move the front seat all the way forward.

Remove the seat forward/back adjustment handle -1- from its mount -2- using a rubber or plastic mallet.

Note. The unit is shown rotated 180°.

Installation

Push the seat forward/back adjustment handle back onto its mount.

Hit the seat forward/back adjustment handle all the way back on with a rubber hammer.

Note. Be careful not to damage the handle when hitting it with the rubber hammer.

SEAT FRAME, UPPER OR LOWER

Note. There is no separation between the upper and lower seat pan frame on the manual standard front seat.

SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT HANDLE

Note. Removal and installation can be done with seat installed.

Pull the seat height adjustment handle -1- as far up as possible and hold it in that position.

Push the spring on the clamp -2- on the inside of the seat height adjustment handle toward the outside with a small screwdriver and remove the handle -3-.

  1. The springs -2- (quantity: 2) on the clip -3- must be on the outside of the lever -1-.

Make sure the seat height adjustment handle engages correctly with the clips.

A second technician must push the seat downward over the seat backrest when installing the seat height adjuster into the seat pan frame.

SEAT POSITION SENSOR

The seat position sensor removal and installation procedure is the same on all seat versions.

SEAT RAIL COVER

Note. The procedure for removing and installing is described on the driver seat tunnel side seat rail cover. The procedure is similar for the sill side seat rail cover.

Carefully release the tabs -arrows- on the cover with a screwdriver and remove the cover from the seat rail -2-.

Remove the cover -1- from the seat rail.

Installation

Install the seat rail cover and press on it until it audibly engages.

Switch the ignition on.

Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Remove the front seat. Refer to MANUAL STANDARD FRONT SEAT .

Attach the front seat to the VAS 6136. Refer to INSTALLING FRONT SEAT ON FIXTURE FOR SEAT REPAIR VAS 6136 .

Remove backrest cover panel. Refer to BACKREST COVER .

Remove the headrests. Refer to HEADRESTS WITH LOCKING MECHANISM .

Remove the backrest cover and cushion

  1. Manual standard seat. Refer to «BACKREST COVER AND CUSHION»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/seats/#seat-upholstery-covers__backrest-cover-and-cushion) .

Disengage pull-springs -3- on backrest frame -1-.

Removing

CAUTIONMove the front seat all the way forward if possible. This reduces the spring force when removing and installing the torsion bar and the risk of damaging the threaded connections between the upper and lower seat frames.

Remove the front seat

  1. Standard seat and Sport seat (manually adjustable) as well as front folding seat - passenger seat. Refer to «MANUAL STANDARD FRONT SEAT»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/seats/#seat-frames) .

Prevent the bracket from spreading using 2024 A /1 and the M10 x 30 bolt -3- and nut.

Carefully rotate the torsion bar -1- with a screwdriver until it disengages from the oblong hole -arrow- on the seat pan.

Tilt seat all the way up.

Remove backrest adjustment wheel. Refer to BACKREST ADJUSTING WHEEL .

Remove the screw -3- and the remove the trim spreader clip -2-.

Disengage the rear trim -1- on the seat -arrow A-.

Pull the trim slightly toward the rear, remove it from the bracket -3- and then remove it forward -arrow B-.

Vehicles with a four-way lumbar support: disconnect the connector -4- on the lumbar support adjustment switch -1-.

Turn the front seat belt latch downward.

Note. It is not necessary to disconnect or remove the electrical wire.

Remove expanding clip -2-.

Raise the front seat all the way up.

Remove the trim on the sill side. Refer to TRIM, SILL SIDE .

Fold the backrest forward and push the backrest cushion -1- slightly to the side.

Remove the pins -arrows- on the backrest frame and remove the side backrest cover toward the rear.

Disconnect the wiring harness connectors for the seat backrest and free up the disconnected wiring harnesses. Refer to MODULAR WIRE ROUTING WITH RIDGED TUBE ON FRONT SEAT .

Note. The wiring harness between the connection point and the side airbag is continuous.

Fold the backrest -3- forward and remove the screws -2-.

Carefully remove the side airbag wiring harness -4- and all other wiring harnesses for the backrest (depending on the seat version) if necessary.

Remove the backrest from the seat -1-.

Carefully pry the actuator -1- out of the retainer using the 3409.

Press on the controls on until they engage audibly.

Removing

WARNINGFollow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION . Before handling airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the harness connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Remove the front seat. Refer to POWER STANDARD FRONT SEAT .

Attach the front seat to the VAS 6136. Refer to INSTALLING FRONT SEAT ON FIXTURE FOR SEAT REPAIR VAS 6136 .

Remove tunnel side trim panel. Refer to TRIM, TUNNEL SIDE .

Remove tunnel side trim panel. Refer to TRIM, SILL SIDE .

Remove backrest cover panel. Refer to BACKREST COVER .

Mark the angle adjustment of the left and right backrest mounting brackets on the seat as follows

Make a permanent mark (line) -arrow B- on the backrest frame -2- right at the front edge -arrow A- of the -1-.

CAUTIONDo not damage the surface of the anchor when marking it by scratching or denting it.

Remove the nut -4- from the shaft -3-.

Remove the cover from the backrest near the backrest hinge. Refer to BACKREST COVER AND CUSHION .

Remove the shaft -3- in the -direction of the arrow- from the backrest frame -1-.

Disconnect the electrical connector -6- on the backrest adjustment motor -7-.

Remove the screw -2- and remove the backrest adjustment motor from the bracket -5- while pushing the lumbar support motor slightly forward.

Installation

Before installing, clean the shaft thread -3- (for example, with thread cutter).

Check the position of the backrest frame -2- and the anchor -1- on the left and right side.

  1. The left and right backrest frames must be in the position marked before removal -A and B arrows -.

If the left and right backrest frames are not in the position marked before removal, correct their position accordingly.

Position the backrest adjustment motor -1- on the bracket -3-.

Replace the bolt -4-. Coat it with locking compound fluid D 000 600 A2 and tighten it by hand.

  1. It must still be possible to move the backrest adjustment motor.

First slide the shaft through the anchor (tunnel side) as far as the stop -2- in the backrest adjustment motor.

Check whether the profile of the inserted shaft and mount -2- in the backrest adjustment motor align.

  1. If the shaft profile and the mount in the backrest adjustment motor align

Slide the shaft through backrest adjustment motor and backrest frame.

  1. If the shaft profile and the mount in the backrest adjustment motor do not align

Connect an external power source (12 Volt) to the backrest adjustment motor -1-.

Rotate mount -2- until it aligns with the shaft profile.

Slide the shaft through backrest adjustment motor and backrest frame.

Apply locking compound fluid D 000 600 A2 to the shaft threaded piece.

Install the new nut -4- on the shaft -3- and tighten it.

Bolt the backrest adjustment motor on the bracket -3- and tighten it to the tightening specification.

Installation is in reverse order of removal, noting the following

WARNINGConnect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.

Removing

Switch the ignition on.

Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Remove the front seat

  1. Standard seat and Sport seat (manual), refer to «MANUAL STANDARD FRONT SEAT»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/seats/#seat-frames) .
  2. Standard seat, Sport seat (power) and Comfort seat, refer to «POWER STANDARD FRONT SEAT»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/seats/#seat-frames__power-standard-front-seat) .

Attach the front seat to the VAS 6136. Refer to INSTALLING FRONT SEAT ON FIXTURE FOR SEAT REPAIR VAS 6136 .

Remove backrest cover panel. Refer to BACKREST COVER .

Remove the headrests. Refer to HEADRESTS WITH LOCKING MECHANISM .

Remove cover with upholstery. Refer to BACKREST COVER AND CUSHION .

Note. Lay plastic film between the seat pan cover and the backrest frame to protect against metal shavings.

WARNINGEye injury risk. Wear protective eyewear!

Drill out rivet -2-.

Disconnect electrical harness connectors -1- and -3- at the lumbar support curvature and height adjustment motors.

Free up the electrical wiring harness at the four-way lumbar support -1-.

Disengage and remove the 4-way lumbar support on the backrest frame -2-.

Installation

Engage four-way lumbar support -1- on the backrest frame -2-.

Before securing rivet -4-, a plastic washer -1- must be placed between lumbar support -2- and backrest frame -3-.

FRONT SEAT WITH FAULTY SEAT FORWARD/BACK ADJUSTMENT MOTOR OR CONTROL MODULE

  1. Cordless Drill Or Power Drill
  2. Seat Repair Stand VAS 6136
  3. Airbag Adapter VAS 6281

Test the seat forward/back adjustment motor or control module

WARNINGFollow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION . Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Tilt seat all the way up.

Note. Check electrical and electronic components and wires before removing seat further to avoid unnecessary repair costs.

Perform the following tests

  1. Check the fuse. Refer To appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS Information
  2. Check the voltage at the connector station and perform fault finding if necessary. Refer To appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS Information.
  3. Check the voltage to the control module. Refer To appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS Information.
  4. Check the voltage to the seat forward/back adjustment motor -V288-. Refer To appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS Information.

Replace the fuse if faulty. Refer To appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS Information.

If there is no voltage at the coupling station, repair or replace the wire. Refer To appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS Information.

If the driver seat forward/back adjustment motor -V28- or thefront passenger seat forward/back adjustment motor -V31- is faulty, replace the lower seat frame. Refer to SEAT PAN FRAME, UPPER .

If the memory seat/steering column adjustment control module -J136- or the passenger memory seat control module -J521- is faulty, replace the control module. Refer to MEMORY SEAT/STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT CONTROL MODULE .

Remove If The Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor Is Faulty

WARNINGBefore handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Switch the ignition on.

Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Disconnect the harness connectors at the coupling station. Refer to DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING HARNESS CONNECTORS .

Connect VAS 6281. Refer to CONNECTING THE AIRBAG ADAPTER VAS 6281 .

Remove the bolt -1-.

Unclip the seat position sensor -2- and the wire form the lower seat frame and move it to the side.

Disconnect the front safety belt latch connector. Refer to FRONT BELT LATCH Disconnect the connector -3- and free up the wire -arrows-. .

Disconnect the electrical connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.

First remove the lock nut and then remove the screw -5-.

CAUTIONDanger of damaging the threaded the holes or the bushing in the bearing points (connecting the upper and lower frame). A second technician is needed to be pushing on the seat via the backrest while removing the following screws.

Remove the screws -1, 3, 4 and 7-.

With a second technician, separate the upper seat frame -2- from the lower frame -6- and remove from the vehicle.

Note. Seat without the cushion, cover and backrest is illustrated.

Make sure the bushings -1- and the bearing points (connection upper and lower frame) -2- are not damaged.

CAUTIONThe bushings cannot be replaced with workshop materials. If the bushings are damaged, the corresponding assembly parts must be replaced.

Remove the bolts for the seat rail to the bracket.

Remove the faulty seat forward/back adjustment motor -1- on the bracket -arrow A-.

Remove the screws -arrows B- and remove the seat rail cross brace -3-.

Remove the screws -arrows C- and seat forward/back adjustment motor bracket -2-.

Install the seat forward/back adjustment motor driveshaft -3- with a cordless screwdriver -4- or drill.

Insert the driveshaft into the drive spindle -arrow A- and turn is forward and backward -arrows B- until the seat rail screws are accessible.

Remove the screws and the seat rail.

Repeat the process on the other side.

Replace the lower seat pan frame with seat forward/back adjustment motor. Refer to SEAT PAN FRAME, LOWER .

Remove with faulty memory seat forward/back adjustment and steering column control module

Switch the ignition on.

Disconnect the connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.

Connect the seat forward/back adjustment motor to an external power source and move the seat forward or back until the bolts -1- (quantity: 4) are visible.

Remove the bolts.

Disconnect the harness connectors at the coupling station. Refer to DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING HARNESS CONNECTORS .

Connect VAS 6281. Refer to CONNECTING THE AIRBAG ADAPTER VAS 6281 .

Raise the front seat with a 2nd technician and remove it from the vehicle.

Attach the front seat to the VAS 6136. Refer to INSTALLING FRONT SEAT ON FIXTURE FOR SEAT REPAIR VAS 6136 .

Replace the memory seat adjustment/steering column control module. Refer to MEMORY SEAT/STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT CONTROL MODULE .

Installation

Remove the lumbar adjustment switch -1- from the trim -3-.

Installation

Press the pin -2- toward the upholster and out of the clip -arrow A- on the bracket -1-, for example using an upholstery needle.

Remove the pin from the seat.

Remove the bracket support foot -2- from the upper seat frame.

Removing

Bring headrest into lowest lock position.

Move the seat -2- all the way forward and up.

Remove the rear bolts -1- (quantity 2) to the console -3-.

Move the seat all the way to the rear and raise it.

Remove the front bolts -1- (quantity 2) to the console -4-.

Switch the ignition on.

Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

WARNINGBefore handling airbag components (for example, disconnecting the electrical connector), the relevant person must discharge static electricity. This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.

Disconnect the connectors at the coupling station in the floor panel. Refer to DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING HARNESS CONNECTORS .

Connect VAS 6281. Refer to CONNECTING THE AIRBAG ADAPTER VAS 6281 .

Raise the front seat with a 2nd technician and remove it from the vehicle.

Installation

Raise the front seat all the way up.

Remove the front seat. Refer to POWER STANDARD FRONT SEAT .

Attach the front seat to the VAS 6136. Refer to INSTALLING FRONT SEAT ON FIXTURE FOR SEAT REPAIR VAS 6136 .

Disconnect the connector -3- on the seat angle adjustment motor.

Remove the ring -4- on the spindle with a screwdriver.

Hold the spindle -8- with pliers -9- on the marked location to keep it from turning and remove the screw -6-.

Remove the screw -1- and remove the seat angle adjustment motor -2- from the bracket.

Separate the upper and lower seat frame, move the seat angle adjustment motor and spindle forward and remove the spindle nut -5-.

INSTALLING

Rotate the spindle -8- from the drive -5- as far as possible into the spindle nut.

Install the screw -6- into the spindle my hand.

Note. It is only possible to tighten the screw -6- to the torque specification, when the seat is inside the vehicle and connected to the vehicle electrical system.

Further installation is performed in reverse sequence of removal, but observe the following

  1. Seat installed in the vehicle and connected to the vehicle electrical system.

Move the seat downward via the angle adjustment and at the same time tighten the screw -6-.

First remove the lock nut and then remove the screw -5-.

Replace the shoulder pin -2- and the bolt -3-.

Clean the threaded holes before installing, for example using a thread tap.

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

WARNINGConnect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

Attach the front seat to the VAS 6136. Refer to INSTALLING FRONT SEAT ON FIXTURE FOR SEAT REPAIR VAS 6136 .

Remove trim. Refer to TRIM .

Equipment level with storage compartment: remove the storage compartment. Refer to STORAGE COMPARTMENT .

Remove the seat depth adjuster as far as the stop.

Disengage the retaining tabs -arrow A- and -arrow B- on the upholstery -1-.

Reach under the seat frame with both hands on one side of the seat bench.

Pull the bench seat -1- up forcefully with both hands -arrow A- so the wire hooks -2- on the bench seat disengage from the mounting grommet -3-.

Repeat the procedure on the opposite side -arrow B-.

Vehicles with seat heating: disconnect the seat heating connector

Remove the bench seat from vehicle.

CAUTIONReplace the mounting grommets each time the bench seat is removed.

REMOVE THE MOUNTINGS -5- FROM THE SEAT FRAME.

Check the seat frame near the mounting plates for any deformation, and align it, if necessary.

Press the mounting plates onto the seat frame until you hear them click into place.

Further installation is performed in reverse sequence of removal, but observe the following

Install the seat bench while installing the rear wire hook -3- under the seat frame -2- -arrow-.

Press the front wire hook -4- into the mounting -5- on the seat frame until it audibly engages.

CUPHOLDER

Repeat the process on the other side.

Remove the cupholder.

Installing Both Versions

Slide the headrest into the backrest as far as the bottom position.

Check if the headrest locks correctly.
