LOCK CARRIER SERVICE POSITION

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Guide Rods T10093

Note. For the service position, no lines and/or circuits are disconnected or opened, for example engine cooling system, A/C system, etc. When installing the lock carrier, make sure that no lines or cables get pinched or kinked at the connecting points.

Scheme 1

1. Bolt 10 Nm
2. Bolt 10 Nm
3. Lock Carrier CAUTION: On vehicles with distance regulation (ACC), observe the following. If the lock carrier is removed and reinstalled or changes are made to ACC bracket, distance regulation adjustment must be carried out. Refer to «Description and Operation»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/wheel-tire-system/#wheels-tires-wheel-alignment) . -- Disconnect battery. -- Remove the front bumper. -- Remove the upper lock carrier cover. Refer to «LOCK CARRIER COVER»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front) . -- Remove the bumper lower noise insulation bolts. -- Remove the bolts on the lock carrier brace. Refer to «LOCK CARRIER BRACE»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front) . -- Disconnect the engine hood cable at the coupling point. Refer to «HOOD LOCK CABLE ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW => Cable Coupling»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids) -- Remove the coolant reservoir screws. Refer to «REMOVE THE COOLANT RESERVOIR»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front) -- Pull the reservoir upward and out of its retainer. -- Disconnect the connectors on the head lamps. -- On vehicles with charge air cooler, pressure hoses must also be disconnected. -- Remove the lower right and left bolts from the longitudinal member. -- Install the outer left and right guide pins T10093 into the open thread. -- Install the remaining screws. -- Pull the lock carrier and the coolant reservoir forward onto the guide pins, being careful not to bend the lines. CAUTION: When removing lock carrier, wiring must not be pinched or kinked. To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order. After installing, check the headlamp setting and adjust if necessary.
4. Bolt Guide Pins T10093 are installed in free threads at outer left and right. 55 Nm

Scheme 2

Before the lock carrier can be pulled forward, remove the lower nuts on the reservoir -arrows- and pull it upward out of the grommet.

Tighten the screws to 5 Nm.

LOCK CARRIER WITH ATTACHMENTS ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW

Scheme 3

1. Bolt 55 Nm 3 pieces per side.
2. Side Impact Bar Secured to the lock carried with the bolt -7-. Do not remove with the bracket when removing the lock carrier.
3. Lock Carrier NOTE: The coolant for the water cooler must be drained before removing. Refer to «[For engine(s) CAEB] Description and Operation»(ref-515372-S31256436412012120300000) or to «[For engine(s) CALB] Description and Operation»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/cooling-fan/#32l-cooling-system-engine-codes-calb) . Removing Remove the lock carrier cover. -- Remove front bumper. -- Disconnect all electrical wires and hoses to the lock carrier at the connection points. -- Disconnect hood lock cable at coupling. Refer to «HOOD LOCK CABLE ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids) . -- Remove the bolts -5-. -- Remove the bolts -1- on the longitudinal member (quantity: 3 per side). NOTE: The impact absorbers with the brackets are secured to the lock carrier with one bolt each -1- and must not be removed. -- Remove the bolts -6- on the lower lock carrier. -- Remove the lock carrier with the headlamps forward. Installation is reverse of removal. All headlamps must be adjusted after installation.

6. Bolt 4 Nm Secures the impact bar to the lock carrier.

Scheme 4

1. Seal Slide the gasket on from below
2. Lock Washer When installing, simply press the plenum chamber bulkhead onto the threaded pins.

5. Plenum Chamber - Bulkhead NOTE: When removing, remember there are different versions. Before removing: -- Remove the tower brace. Refer to «Removal and Installation»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension) . -- Loosen the washer fluid reservoir. -- Disconnect the vacuum line to the brake booster at the connection to the plenum chamber bulkhead. -- Unclip the vacuum line from the plenum chamber bulkhead. Remove the bolts -1- and nut -4-.

1. Fender Removing -- Remove the drip railing. Refer to Water Deflector, Removing «WINDSHIELD ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/windows/#glass-window-regulators__windshield-assembly-overview) . -- Remove plenum chamber cover. Refer to «PLENUM CHAMBER COVER»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front__plenum-chamber-cover) . -- Remove front bumper. -- Remove headlight. Refer to «[For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights-switches) -- Remove wheel housing liner. Refer to «FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment) . -- End plate, removing -- Remove the bolts -2- and -4- and nuts -7- and the fender. Installing Installation is reverse of removal.

Scheme 7

1. Cover To remove, remove the locking pin and release the expanding clip. Remove the expanding clip from the cover. Remove the cover back from the radiator grille. When installing, the tabs on the cover must engage on the radiator grille and on the sides of the bumper cover. Insert the expanding clip through the cover into the lock carrier and press the locking pin in.
2. Spreader Clip Remove the clamping pin when removing. Only press the clamping pin in when installing. Quantity: 4

2. Right Lock Carrier Brace Attached to the mounting bracket with the nut -6-.

4. Left Lock Carrier Brace Attached to the mounting bracket with the nut -6-.

7. Spring Nut Slide into the lower lock carrier.

1. Brace -- The bumper is removed and press the wheel housing liner to the side in the area of the brace. -- Remove the nuts -2- to remove it.

Scheme 11

1. Fender
2. End Plate -- Remove front wheel. -- Remove the rear part from the wheel housing liner. Refer to «FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment) . Loosen the fluid reservoir on the left side. -- Remove the bolts -3-, unclip the end plate from the fender rear bracket. and slide it downward. Refer to item 6

Scheme 12

1. Seal Self-adhesive. -- Remove the protective film and slide the seal onto the fender mounting flange under the wheel housing liner as illustrated.
2. Fender Flange Slide the seal onto the fender flange between the wheel housing liner and the inside of the fender.

4. Cover Note different versions. Adhesion surfaces must be free of dust and grease. -- Remove the protective film, install the cover and press on it firmly.

Scheme 13

1. Cowl Trim Wiper arms removed. The left, center and right auxiliary covers are removed. Remove the clamps -3-. NOTE: For easier removal/installation, spray windshield edge strip with soapy solution. Remove the cowl trim upward diagonally from edge strip beginning at window edge. CAUTION: Risk of window breaking during installation When installing, do not hit the cowl trim. Carefully press cowl trim in sideways, beginning in the edge strip.
2. Plenum Chamber Cover Remove the front clip first when removing. Lift the front cover and remove it from the plenum chamber cover.
3. Seal Remove from the body flange toward the rear starting on the side.
4. Plenum Chamber Bulkhead
5. Windshield
6. Retaining Strip
